      Im curious how you feel about it a year later? Did it last? Does the rear window defrost work up to par or noticeably not as good as stock?

      Thank you! I think it will be best to remove my old window tint first by steaming it. Then do the repair. I'd hate to fix it, and something go wrong. I already have my new tint for the car, just need to remove the old stuff.

    • @Jsean
      @Jsean  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a plan. Just remember to be careful and not to damage the defroster line. I made that mistake before and cut it with a razor blade trying to get the sticky residue from the tint removal off and ruined it!

    • @noeladams5465
      @noeladams5465 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I watched a video earlier of a guy doing the hatch of his Corvette, but using a steamer for clothes and being really patient with it. He got 95% of the adhesive off with the film. The other stickiness he went over with acetone to get up. Like you said though, being careful not to mess up the defrost lines. Lol, between you and his video, I learned a great deal today. Thanks again! I subscribed to your channel to check out your other material.

    Thanks, brother. Mine popped off when it apparently was hit off while taking the rear deck off my passat when I was changing out a seatbelt. I wish someone would make a video for the middle.rear break that I also apparently broke somehow, and we all know electrical work is not cheap!
    Question. Did you disconnect the battery first, or is it safe to do this repair with just the car off?

    • @Jsean
      @Jsean  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem! Ah man that sucks. One day I just looked and mine was just dangling out of nowhere smh. They say when you do anything electrical you should disconnect the battery but I didn’t. It’s just a clip and once you disconnect it’s not doing anything so I don’t think it’s necessary. Hope that helps and hope you get everything back up and working. It sure beats having to buy an entire rear glass. When you say middle rear break are you referring to your emergency brake leaver?

    • @onenationundergod8
      @onenationundergod8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, actually, it's the third break light in the rear window. But yeah, doing the repair on the rear defogger tab and surface, I found that it didn't work when I turned the rear defogger on this morning but I think it's because I rubbed that green activator pad on the tabs and then read that I wasn't supposed to or get it on the glass which a little did but only on an area that would be covered up so maybe that is why it didn't work for me!

    • @Jsean
      @Jsean  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@onenationundergod8 oh no sorry it didn’t work! Maybe that was the case? You also have to be careful not to sand to deep. The good thing is if you have another open spot you can try it again! 💪

    Thanks for the video! I recently bought the kit, still haven't used it. Just a question: I saw at 03:10 you put activator on the tab, but in the instructions it says: "do not use activator towelette on the tab". What's the right thing to do?
    Greetings from Italy!

    • @tivolutionist
      @tivolutionist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just reading that part of the instructions too. An video I found that's about a year older than this one shows the repairer wearing nitrile gloves, which isn't mentioned anywhere, but I appreciate, as I always forget until I'm 'in the thick'. Anyway, that vid (not linking because unsure of youtube etiquette in these cases) shows the activator only being applied to the glass/grid only, and the adhesive being put on the tab only. I'm hoping I only have a crack in the grid to repair, so I don't have to struggle with this conundrum. If not, I will probably stick with mfr instructions as they look to be the easier from which to recover in case of failure.

    • @Jsean

      In my opinion, as long as it’s abrasive you should be good. They key is it has to be a very light grade because you can easily over sand right through it. You want to be very gentle and sand extremely light. If you do sand too deep you could always try another spot but literally barely sand with little to no real pressure when you do it. Sucks it didn’t work for you. Not sure what happened but it did for me exactly the way I did it. Which part of it didn’t work for you? I’ve read where some said it didn’t stick but I believe I addressed that part of I remember correctly. The other part where it could fail is if you do not use a new spot to stick to. Mine still works but they don’t advise you to use the same spot. You also have to be very careful in her hard you prep that area as you can easily sand through it.
