There was a Russian fantasy film from around that time. It was bad enough to be on MST3K. But it was actually not that bad. It's watchable without the jokes. Can't remember the name at all.

Hey thanks. I think the popularity of these films is because they actually add style to the aesthetics. Current Hollywood and television are sorely missing style except for a very few shows and films.

@@smachdos1593 Im honestly surprised that in an age where all Hollywood knows how to do is remakes, that they have not even attempted to go back to the old classics. Krull, Sword and the Sorcerer, Dragonslayer, Ladyhawk, Those are just a few of the old fantasy classics that beg for a retelling.
I can tell you exactly why. I'm an industry exile. The cool kids are the climbers and they are in charge. They don't understand nerds. I was able to live in both worlds but got tired of it. They don't understand what makes the films you mentioned good. They are a clique of mean girls and brats and hate creatives. The rise of the indie filmmaker has begun and it's not gonna stop.

BG3 was a huge financial success because huge numbers of people love the game. Huge numbers of people love the game because it’s deep and has a lot of heart. It’s deep because they took a long time to make it, and it has heart because it’s Larian. Hasbro is about to do 2 things differently: Not have Larian, and very likely, rush whatever devs do end up doing it, to do it more quickly than they should (killing morale and creating a shallow game). 😂 Recipe for hit after hit, right? Have we learned nothing from Disney Star Wars?

Very nice but there's a couple glaring mistakes. Sarevok is a Fighter, not a Sorceror and Jaheira is a Druid, not a Sorceress.
The changes were deliberate. When I made this I thought about how would a movie producer from the 1950's think about this. Was that the right creative choice on my part? Probably not but this was one of my earlier videos. Being very loyal to the lore in other videos is paying off big time. I'm glad you liked the video. I don't mind you pointing out those differences at all.

It's tough, fantasy didn't really exist but Fall of the Roman Empire is a great start. That film inspired tons of stuff made today. Fantasy wasn't really a genre back then like it is now. More historical and biblical films back then.

Yes I changed it for the film because Druids are lame and Fighters aren't scary. I took creative license. Also in my movie mages wear full plate mail. That's how crazy they are. No Vancian system either. Lightning bolts all day with a sword in hand. Cinema!

How does this look more like actual D&D then most of the stuff WOTC puts out these days?
I think the answer is simple. Modern D&D has become Arcana Punk and has abandoned it's Medieval/Sword & Sorcery roots. I think it's an attempt to make D&D a catch all for people coming from all spectrums of nerd culture. The fantasy of the 1950s was rooted in myth just like the D&D of the 70's and up until maybe the early 2010s. Fourth Edition is when they up ended the apple cart and drew more influence from World of Warcraft than Robert E. Howard, Tolkien, Lovecraft, etc..
