- The early 2010s. When you had to be suspicious of every youtube link in case of a rick roll, when nyan cat and gangam style were the hottest memes. when flash was still alive. and when bronys were running the entire internet.
It really did feel like it was everywhere, every game had a pony mod, every minecraft server I joined had a pony pixel art somewhere. It was a crazy time. I miss it...
Thank you so much for watching. Do you have any crazy brony moments from the early 2010s? If you do let me know in the comments!
There really was a lot that went down in the brony community back then, @Izzzyzzz has a great video covering a lot a lot of it. check that out as well

The fact they made custom pants for her is so funny, like the creator even knew a pony with a hole was too much
As someone in the fandom back in the day the pants could actually be written off as a really specific character thing, as the fandom characterized her as being obsessed with humans because she sat like one. there wasn't originally much to work with with background characters before head cannon became cannon lol.
Oh it’s because the joke is the character is OBSESSED with humans and thinks they are real, and wants pants
@@Lucky_Lyra yeah she is watchin My little human 😅😅😅
@@sock4118 Sombra obsessed with stairs.
@@RRanungod i remember seeing fanart of him walking up those optical illusion infinite stairs lmao
For those that don't know:
Because Lyra became famous bc of sitting on a bench in a way that loosely resembled a person, the fandom started to create fanart depicting her as a pony with a weeaboo-like obsession with humans.
You name it: drawings, comics, animations, and fanfiction - the latter being the media that inspired "Anthropology (Lyra's Song)", a not-so-famous but VERY iconic song in the fandom about Lyra which I believe has like 1M views. Lyra was portrayed by the fandom walking/standing in two legs, using hand-shaped gloves, talking about humans, stalking humans, being seen as a weirdo to the other characters, and even using... pants.
You see, at the time (and before the making of the infamous plushie) there was this fanart going around of Lyra standing on two legs striking a Superman pose with khaki trousers on with the text "PANTS!", which gained a lot of traction and ppl started to draw Lyra with khaki pants too, becoming the trousers some kind of sub-meme.
The thing I'm saying is: there's no fuckin way that wasn't planned. That guy could've done ANY pony but decided Lyra was the one with the right context to sell with pants to cover the hole without it being weird to the buyer.
He made a fuckpony while also respecting that pony's inside joke - an inside joke that at the same time conveniently disguised the fuckpony as a regular innocent plushie.
That mf knew what he was doing.
Best 700$ of his whole life.
hahahah, oh im no pleb, I know about lyra and all her anthropology things, I just never put 2 and 2 together that, that is why she was chosen as the character for this lmao, that is very interesting

Hoppip made the Lyra plushie with leftover fabric from my commission. At least I think that's what happened because I spent weeks searching for mint coloured fabric and ended up ordering it in the US and have it shipped to his place in the UK. The shipping cost from the US to UK was horrendous so I don't think he bought another batch. Suffice to say there was enough fabric left to add additional features to the plushie. Being a /b/ronie at the time I thought it was hilarious when I saw his creation. I take pride in my little contribution into internet culture, albeit it was an indirect one.

@@gabbyn.3049 The understatement of history.
I heard about this ages ago during my own time in the fandom and... honestly? Its actually kinda wholesome in a very fucked-up way to know she's unused, got signed by Lauren who knew about it (like you said, it'd have been horrible if she was tricked) and that's she's actually just owned by someone who keeps her in the uhh... clean state, so to speak. Once again, weird but definitely wholesome ending to something I've not heard about in ages!
There's something oddly wholesome about the fact that the pony plush not only remained unmolested, that it ended up being signed by Lauren Faust, who seemed to have a good sense of humour about the whole thing.
Considering her history with & sort of dislike of Hasbro after dealing with the company, she probably signed it as a bit of a middle finger to them.
They say that it is unmolested, doesn't mean it's true

Everyone has that cringey phase they went through as a teen and honestly I'm happy that mine was MLP/brony. It's nice to see stories like this when community ends up being so wholesome and funny about the whole situation instead of it going into obscurity or something obscene happening.
Brony culture was really something special, there was so much fervent passion for art, music, self expression, acceptance etc. There was a diverse mix of people with a solid gender ratio which doesn't seem to happen with a lot of fandoms. It was really nice to have a nerd culture that doesn't exclude girls in any way and promotes a lot of trans acceptance.
It was really was so special.. I was always scared of being cringe so I didn't participate as much as I would've liked too, but it really was (and still is) one of the most crazy, creative, accepting groups I've ever seen
Thanks so much for your comment, Always nice to take another trip down the old memory lane :')
Misread ‘fervent passion’ as ‘pervert passion’, and I just want to apologise for that lmao
You were incredibly lucky and sheltered to think that the brony phase of the 2010s was wholesome. This is just /one/ instance that managed to stay relatively ok (because you have to understand hoe deeply fucked up it is that someone made her with a vaginal cavity to begin with).
I think /now/ it has trans acceptance, but to think it was that way originally is obscenely wrong. Sexism and transphobia and lesbian fetishization was rampant during the peak of the brony era, they would go and send young girls mlp gore porn just for the sheer fact that they either found it funny or found said little girl annoying and "deserving" of the porn. Again, you are incredibly lucky to have been in a niche pocket that wasn't this bad, but please don't pretend this is the entire brony fandom entirely.
Huh, I wonder what mine will be... Or was... Or is 😅.

As a brony of 11 years, trust me, you have no idea how much of an interesting spectacle this fandom is even to this day. Yeah you have depraved stuff like this and its easy to poke fun at but you also have wholesome and amazing stuff like the insane amount of genuinely high quality music and other art the fandom has put out. Earlier this month I was at a pony convention that raised $60,372 for a struggling horse charity with only 523 people in attendance (thats $114 per person in charity contributions). Looking past the shocking stories like this one youll find what I beleive without a doubt to be the most interesting cultural anomaly to ever happen on the internet.
eh, even then that just sounds like watered down furries, also they are literally just horses so the sexualization is more unethical than if it were an anthro, its also content clearly targeted at kids while the furry fandom is a broad concept, anthro's have been staples of human culture since the beginning but MLP is just a show. its a weird subset of the furry community that i don't agree with, the amount of 'feral' art in both communities is nasty but the MLP fandom literally revolves around it
@@circleinforthecube5170 the difference between bronies and furries is that the brony community is HEAVILY less NSFW based, so that last point doesn't matter as much
for example, most MLP memes i've seen from the community are usually just in-jokes related to the show
then compare that with the furry community where there isn't a single popular meme from it that ISN'T related to sex or pornography
Dude, me and my fiancèe are bronies, and we were there at the beginning when it was a meme. We've been dying to know what ended up happening with the Lyra plushie. We joke about it all the time. I was at the 2019 Bronycon and I recall seeing that image of Faust signing the lyra plush while I was there. I didn't get to see Faust at all though, I think I slept through her panels.
Was an amazing convention though and the energy was crazy. After the convention was a metal concert in a nearby bar featuring 9 brony musicians. My first mosh-pit. As you said, plushies are a point of pride for bronies, so you'd have us headbanging and moshing while others had plushies in their arms or hanging out of their backpacks. The contrasting imagery was hilarious yet it perfectly sums up the fandom. We are the most musical fandom, after all. An archive for brony music stopped counting at 50,000 fan-made songs. Even to this day, well past the fandom's prime, an average of 140 brony songs get released every month, with new artists still joining the ranks.
