The problem it's NOT the oil pump or cheap oil, it's the quality of the metal (to soft) they used make the balance shaft, well documented everywhere. Great video, tks.

Wasn't certain if my ML350 was one of the ones affected, but after oil change with no evidence of metal shavings or pieces and then successfully performing the alignment procedure you provided, I was able to get my issue resolved by just replacing the 2 - bank 1 sensors. P0016 & P0017 codes have gone away and now I can get it smogged. Thank you!

The "recommended oil" that manufacturers put on those stickers is only the highest bidder at the time it was produced. It doesn't mean it is the best oil for the car. It's all marketing. Mobil 1, Titan, Liqui Moly, Castrol, etc are all the same.

MB actually recommends using 0w40 for the M273&272 motors. High mileage versions might benefit from the jump to 5 from 0 weight but only if they eat oil, otherwise stick with the 0w. That's what I've been using on my 135k miles M273 for the past 4 years and it's perfect.

I have my P0016/P0017 m272 engine swaped, which costs me $3K. Lucky that the problem showed up at 180K mi or 15 years later after i bought the car. I used engineer oil additive to prolong the wear and tear, which seems to work for me. After some premature wear and tear, the Bank #1 CAM timing is advanced and resulted in running hotter. Now everything is back to normal.

I had codes on my m272 engine that indicated that I had a balance shaft issue like he is describing. I pulled the cam sensors and checked to see the small circle stamps through the hole and noticed on bank 2 my cam adjuster was clicking and spitting oil from the front and on bank 1 exhaust camshast timing mark was way off. I changed both the exhaust camshaft actuators and the timing marks came spot on and ran perfect! Things aren't always what they seem.

Hi sir, I have a 06 CLK350 with 118k miles and I'm getting P0016/17 as well as p0021 codes. I also had misfire codes on the entire passenger side bank however the car had no misfires. I went ahead and replaced the spark plugs all around regardless and I'm still getting the misfire codes even though the car has little to no vibration and feels factory new. I don't think it is the timing shaft or Ballance shaft and I've just had the intake manifold replaced 8k miles ago and I've done everything I can to try and figure out my problem. I've disconnected the battery to reset the codes but they all still popped up when I reconnected it. The car is not sluggish or shaky at all and is still very peppy and I'm only getting a solid Check engine light. Do you have any recommendations as to what I should do? I'm truly stumped. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2006 E350 with 153,000 miles. An original balancing shaft would not last 150,000 miles correct? Car drives and idles great. Do you believe the camshaft adjuster magnets could be the issue? I want to try the Titan oil because after I did an oil change one time the light went away (battery was not disconnected at all but the codes came back.) Besides the balancing shaft what else could be the issue?

The cause is a gear on the balance shaft inside the motor made of inferior material that wears down after a short amount of time and causes the camshaft to lose it's alignment. Oil grade is for lubrication of the metal parts inside of the engine and slight cooling, only! But the video is correct to a certain degree.

I think I may have a similar issue on my 2008 C300 but the error codes I am getting are p0060 and p0064 my check engine light is no off and the car runs just fine. I took the car to my local shop and they told me that they saw that a camshaft sensors was leaking oil. They then told me that the standard practice for this issue is to replace all 4. Bonjour
Do you think that without the converter the automatic BV and the flywheel we can have enough
place for dismounting the plate of the cranshaft and the balance shaft and install the back part of
the balance shaft and then avoid keeping out the engine ???
second why it's necessary to change the back of the balance shaft if you change the distribution
chain and some other parts in the front of the engine.
For me it's clear the new back part is the same like the old.
Last question the sprocket lose its teeth , why it 's so important if you can adjust the timing chain
for the right bank and the left bank ( admission camshaft and exhaust camshaft ) correctly.
It seems to me that it's not so important that the sprocket have teeth or no because of the tensionner.
I think the problem come from the tensionner. The origin adjustement is too strong so the sprocket become
tired and used little by little.
I hope i don't take too much of your time with my questions.
    best regards Pierre

scene one cam is on time and one cam is not on time would that not be that the cam advance is stuck on one cam. if the cam on the left of the engine was off on both then the balance shaft teeth are gone because the chain would have more slack? the teeth where not hardened properly during manufacturing on the balance shaft. thanks for the video like it a lot.

Do you think it's impossible to change the back counter weight when you keep out the BV and the flywheel
If it' s possible many people who have the problem of the balance shaft will win a lot of money by following
a precise tutoriel of how doing that job.
Moreover i am thinking how can the sprocket be used like that ??? what is the root cause if you have any idea with explanations !!!
I think of the tensioner ???
    best regards

    Hello David
Your video help me so much and saved me a lot of time.
    I have 2006 R350
    I had 2 trouble codes p0016 and p0017
I removed the cane sensors and I put it in 305 degree and looked to see if the small circles aligned either the camshaft sensor wholes.
It was perfectly aligned . It was right in the middle.
I switched the camshaft sensors from the drives side to the passenger side. But I’m still getting the same trouble codes.
Is it possible that the magnet sensors is the problem??

Only after watching your videos that i realized that i made a big mistake. I also already spent a lot of money on the car fixing and replacing parts. How can you help fixing the errors codes?

I have a 2006 c230 & have just gotten these 2 codes (P0016 & P0017). We just changed the oil with the Mobil 1 synthetic oil & the codes still appear after being cleared as you mentioned they may. Previously, I received 2 codes (P1200 & P1208) which appear to be very similar codes. Can you recommend if I should get this work done or just invest in another car? Or, do you have any other suggestions that I'm not considering? My car seems to be running very "rough" & I don't want to get stuck in LAX traffic. Thank you very much!

Hello Mercedes Benz Techs. Wonderfull video, thanks for it. I have a C280 Avantgarde Sport 2006, and have the same vibration problem. The car runs OK but when in neutral vibration is there. They scanned it and said was a missfire. Could missalignment be the problem? Do I always have to check for 305 degrees alignmen? Thans

    • @MercedesBenzTechs
      @MercedesBenzTechs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Iván Medina you need to check what causing the misfire first.. bad coil? Bad spark plug? Or out of timing? You need a professional diagnosis first
