The problem it's NOT the oil pump or cheap oil, it's the quality of the metal (to soft) they used make the balance shaft, well documented everywhere. Great video, tks.

I wish someone would be "freaking awsome" showing me how to replace the CRANKSHAFT position sensor on a 2005 C230 Kompressor. Everything I seen so far is useless. The sensor is down below the left rear corner of the cylinder head, but how the devil do I get in there?

Very grateful for the informative video. Allowed me to rule out the infamous camshaft sprocket balancer issue. Wasn't certain if my ML350 was one of the ones affected, but after oil change with no evidence of metal shavings or pieces and then successfully performing the alignment procedure you provided, I was able to get my issue resolved by just replacing the 2 - bank 1 sensors. I have my P0016/P0017 m272 engine swaped, which costs me $3K. Lucky that the problem showed up at 180K mi or 15 years later after i bought the car. I used engineer oil additive to prolong the wear and tear, which seems to work for me. After some premature wear and tear, the Bank #1 CAM timing is advanced and resulted in running hotter. MB actually recommends using 0w40 for the M273&272 motors. High mileage versions might benefit from the jump to 5 from 0 weight but only if they eat oil, otherwise stick with the 0w. That's what I've been using on my 135k miles M273 for the past 4 years and it's perfect.

I had codes on my m272 engine that indicated that I had a balance shaft issue like he is describing. I pulled the cam sensors and checked to see the small circle stamps through the hole and noticed on bank 2 my cam adjuster was clicking and spitting oil from the front and on bank 1 exhaust camshast timing mark was way off. Hi sir, I have a 06 CLK350 with 118k miles and I'm getting P0016/17 as well as p0021 codes. I also had misfire codes on the entire passenger side bank however the car had no misfires. I went ahead and replaced the spark plugs all around regardless and I'm still getting the misfire codes even though the car has little to no vibration and feels factory new. I don't think it is the timing shaft or Ballance shaft and I've just had the intake manifold replaced 8k miles ago and I've done everything I can to try and figure out my problem. I've disconnected the battery to reset the codes but they all still popped up when I reconnected it. The car is not sluggish or shaky at all and is still very peppy and I'm only getting a solid Check engine light. Do you have any recommendations as to what I should do? I'm truly stumped. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

The cause is a gear on the balance shaft inside the motor made of inferior material that wears down after a short amount of time and causes the camshaft to lose it's alignment. Oil grade is for lubrication of the metal parts inside of the engine and slight cooling, only! But the video is correct to a certain degree.

Left side was one of it exactly on the middle the one on the left hole was lets say 2mm on the side but not really much. I got today engine light on. Deleted it after drive stop and start again it came back. I changed the cam sensors from left to the right. Right now did not show up the engine light. What i supposed to do? I just bought it today. Previously, I received 2 codes (P1200 & P1208) which appear to be very similar codes. Can you recommend if I should get this work done or just invest in another car? I think it's not an oil problem but a real problem of the balance shaft on some Mercedes.
    So i ask
    1) Can you change the balance shaft without keep out the engine from the car.
    2) Can you change only the pignon at the beginning of the balance shaft by
reengenering and clever method without touch anything else.
    3) Can i dismounted the back of the engine ( does we have place between the firewall and the engine
if we keep out the Automatic BV )
It's seem to me a very challenging mechanic problem because i am interesting in buying a CLK350
with that problem or similarly but i find that 5000 euros or more for changing the shaft is not normal.

***** Yes I did see that video... That is why I was asking. If I can get away with not having to pull the motor, I am al for that. like I said, in checking if the marks line up, on this one it does. So just wanting to know what else it could be. Also like I said, it does look like someone has taken the pan off before, unless the dealer uses silicone to seal. But if that was the case, why would they clean out the pan and not tell anyone of the problem? Metal in the pan is a bad thing and should not be ignored.
By the way, how do I test for the sensors? I am sure there is a way to test them.

David, I have 2007 C280 3.0 V6, Came to me with P0019 Camshaft Adj Solenoid. However its also is Missfiring Bank II , Cylinders 4, 5, 6 and its Noticable bad ! Just the One bank, Same Bank as the code. Would this Error cause Missfire ?

+Jai DaMann issue ended up to be camshaft positioning sensor on mine. I scoped all 4 sensors and this one was dead. the scan tool must have defaulted a reading this is what threw me off. Why that bank went into missfiring ?? no idea but I had skips on all cylinders that bank

I have these codes after the sensors were replaced last week. (2006 W203 C280 with 65.000 miles.)
If a M272 has this shaft failure, what is the damage risk when driving it without fixing? I need the car for vacation soon and my garage is closed after next week for vacation. Maybe it is wise to do new oil and filter?
    Thanks.

I have a 2011 C300, the engine and location of the camshaft sensor seem to be the same. do I need to replace both? or are there 4? I did see a video where they replaced the sensor, and the problem was fixed. Do you have to turn the crankshaft when doing the replacement?

Awesome video. I know you probably get a lot of questions regarding this video and know you are probably a busy guy. I thought I would at least try and ask you what you might think about my situation. I think I may have a similar issue on my 2008 C300 but the error codes I am getting are p0060 and p0064 my check engine light is no off and the car runs just fine. I took the car to my local shop and they told me that they saw that a camshaft sensors was leaking oil. They then told me that the standard practice for this issue is to replace all 4. My question would be is this acceptable? should I just clean the sensor off, should I just replace the sensor that was leaking oil or should I replace all 4? Thank you

Just a quick question, what ratchet attachment and size would I need to rotate the crankshaft to 305 degrees on a 2006 Mercedes C230 (M272)?

Hi MB, what happened if two intake camshafts are dead on the centers. But the other two exhaust camshafts are off the centers by a little on the upper way of the holes. My car is 2006 R350. How do you say about this Off? Thanks in advance.

Than you are off timing.. the valves spring always pushing on the camshafts that’s why it may look that you are on timing on one..

@@MercedesBenzTechs Thanks for promptly responding David. Really appreciate it. From your point of professional, Is it better to do the engine swapping or rebuilding it? Car mileage is 180,000Km. Again thanks, best regards
