The SAME god who asks you to forgive your enemies REFUSES to forgive his enemies. He requires contrition of his enemies. He requires their adoration, even. But you--oh, hell no. You forgive them because I said so. And I'll keep you out of heaven if you don't. 1 Kings 8--Solomon implores God to just forgive the people when they strayed. No mention of a necessary sacrifice of a god or a man or a messiah. Just "Hey, forgive them." But--no. He couldn't do that. Christianity learned early from their entanglement with Roman levers of power: Create a problem and then come with the solution. You're a hopeless sinner (somehow responsible for someone else's sins thousands of years ago), but we have the magical cure. The same God who could have taken greater care over the people he created. Instead, he's the parent who lets their child burn themselves on a hot oven burner. "There, that'll teach you." GMAB
Ah yes, when someone rapes a child and the judge sends them to jail, I am very upset at that judge. Why couldn't the judge just forgive them? He has the power, after all. Only an evil being enforces justice, surely.
