  • The body mounts on my 02 silverado had rotted and collapsed.
    This happened just before winter so I needed a quick and cheap fix. I was unable to find a replacement. All the steel was scrap pieces that were laying around. I created a second vid for the other side mount with a more permanent fix. • Chevy truck body Mount...

    Dude, thank you so much for doing this, I've got something similar going on with my truck(with winter coming as well) and this is just the ticket. Also, thank you for posting a video of a regular guy working on his back in the driveway like 95% of us instead of tricked out shop with every tool under the sun. Way to keep it simple and no music, just the work.

    next time use ridged paper from dollar store to make your side templates then trace it on your steel plate and then youll have a 1 piece bracket, will save you a ton of work and much stronger with a perfect fit

    Nice job, just 1 thing. I noticed all the splatter after u were done with fabricating the bracket. If ur flux welding and ur welder can do both flux core and or argon, switch ur polarity and you will get a much better weld

    After welding, might not be a bad idea to hit it with some rustproofing paint or rubberizer to make the repair last almost forever

      Would do much as it would rust from the underlying rusted metal which wasn't removed

    My frame is rusting out as well body looks great but underneath is all rusted.The next one I buy I,ll try Ziebart rustproofing. If it works it's worth every penny not to have to deal with that.

    Prob Harbor Freight. Nice cheap fix though. What ever it takes to keep on moving on a budget is alright with me.

    cut the frame mount off, fabricate new and weld on the frame. This guy's capable. Just another e-SIDE hack job.

    I wish my rear cab mounts were my problem, but I couldn’t get that lucky. My front ones are doing this and it has ended up ripping the mounting tabs on my front fenders and pushing the fenders down so it always looks like the hood is open too…

    Like really killer idea I'm going out to rig something up I just dnt have a welder and dnt weld so that limits me I think I'll do the same you did and ware you drilled holes I'll just bolt it in. My mount isent as bad as yours is and really only need a big washer and it would be fine I think

    same problem with my s10. when you hit a bump you can feel the cab floor moving and bending

      The silver paint is a zinc weld thru primer

    I’m replacing my body mounts. Welding them on. The fuel line is on the other side of that metal that I’m welding to. Is that something I need to worry about?

    hey this video is quite old, but I have a 98 ext cab Chevy s10 4x4, I have a similar issue to yours, however its not the mount that collapsed, it is the bar welded on the bottom of the cab, where the cab mount goes on my driver side front has rotted through, is there a way to box/repair it ? or is a new cab required do you think ?

    Hello, I tried to find the video of you removing the bolt of the cab mount that snapped off . Did those sockets get the bolt out? I have the same problem on my 99 chevy blazer on the front cab mount. There is no access to the top of the cab mount, they sealed it in metal. Thanks for your help.

      I'm not sure of the location of the body mounts in your blazer. In some vehicles you can pull back the carpet and cut a small access hole in the floor right above the body mount.

    man those FRAME mounts are not expensive..... its cab mounts that cost the money. probably could have picked those up for 25$ ..... and if you oil the truck and take care of them they will last foreever

      if hes got hands and some free time he can do it. no tolls isnt an excuse, use the money you would be paying for labor for the tools you need. then you own them forever and can do repairs at a lower cost in the future

      That was actually cab mount and the cab was sagging quite a bit. After the fix everything lined up like it should

      @@JGD16 cool I believe this is the problem with my truck is there an email or IG where I can send u a picture of it so u can see for ur self I have an appointment to take it to an auto shop and they gonna charge me 800$ to fix it they say it’s bent frame but I can’t see where it’s bending from plus my factory lines done line up on one side like in the other

      The hole is 40.8 mm but a 1 9/16 hole saw will get the job done with a 41mm hole

    Quick fix would be to order the mount cut it out and weld the new one back on. You welded on to weakened thinner metal.

      I agree that would have been a better fix but I was unable to find a replacement body mount. I have another video where the body mount is cut off and rebuilt

      my Tahoe has rust like that. I caught it in time.. the problem is that undercoating spray holds moisture and eats inbetween metal and coating. eventually bubbling then rot

    With all that cutting and welding it would have been just as easy to cut the old mount off and weld in a new one, dummy.

      I can’t remember what brand it was but I think it was just some generic high speed steel bit. The trick is learning how to sharpen them yourself then you can make any drillbit great. Good luck with your truck thanks for watching!
