My buddy and just did an ebike demo. We did a 3hr ride in 1 1/2 hours. We didn't walk any obstacles. Turbo mode for the steeps and trail mode for techy stuff. It was awesome. I want one now.👍😊
I've been watching so much MTB content in the past 2 years and I have never seen these trails before..This looks so damn sick. A lot of sick features yet so raw. Awesome video and sick riding :D!
And those who enjoy riding without rattling and whining, and earning the climbs... I've tried them, they're fun for sure, but still the tech is too noisy, and too bad for the environment. EXe and Shuttle SL are a big step forwards though!
Ebikes are a reality: they’re bringing more people into the sport, and for people whose health precludes a hard climb. And also for people with a ton of cash to burn 😂
2:40 I have never cleaned climbing that before and always thought about a few of the janky spots at the bottom of FG and if the ebike would be able to blast up them:)
So are those jumps the adult version of the sketchy ramps we'd build as kids 🤣 That bike looks insane, I'm not a big ebike guy but man pedaling up hills takes it out of you... this seems like a really good balance
Walk mode looks like a good idea. I have just ordered a RM Altitude PowerPlay that I will get about end of year. Great to see you jumping the Ibis because that's something I had been wondering about. Cheers.
I rented one this summer and used it for mt frome. Great bike. I rented a couple other E bikes to use around whistler. But the Altitude felt the best. (To me anyway)
Thanks! The nice thing is that my heart rate was still around 150bpm the whole time, so there’s still plenty of cardio to be had. With the e-bike, I just do more laps 🤟
Love the “real world” review. The Oso may be a bit much for some of us, would be great if Ibis’ came out with a lighter more trail oriented E along the lines of the Orbea Rise…🤞
It does feel like it has a bit more momentum. It’s somehow pretty poppy still! To me, it feels like it requires less body english to get it into the air and to the landing. Good times.
I think ibis really messed up by removing the awesome metal head tube badge. In my opinion that was the nicest head tube badge on the market and it helped make the bikes look extra special. Now the head tube logo looks like everything else.
I'm in love with this bike, but dang....I just spent a lot of money on a Ripley that I bought last November. That said, great review and as much as I like the OSO, $10,999 is just a little too steep a price right now.
Regen braking would require your pedals to move since the motor is in the BB, so I don’t think it’s coming. Hub-based motors have had regen braking, but it tended to be too aggressive a force so it’s not done. Plus, hub motors are no good for MTBs
@@WesMacaulay Would require the chainring to keep turning, but technically the pedals and chainring could be independent / just like they are on a gearbox bike like the Pinion (shaft in a shaft kind of thing). Agree about not wanting auto regen, or even it blended with the regular brakes - same reason lots of the electric hyper-cars disable regen in track mode. They don't want one pedal doing two things, its unpredictable and doesn't feel good. If it could easily be added without much weight, do it but give me another lever or button to activate it with - Chevy Volt style.
@@h82fail actually now that I think about it the cranks on e-bikes are already independent of the chainring so regen braking could be done. Whatever it takes to make e-bikes even more expensive, right? 🤪
I love my ibis' but I gotta say, seems really silly to be like "let's rebrand to make sure people know an ibis is a bird... and then name your new bike for a bear.... also I'm not a fan of that swing arm but it seems to be getting more love these days (pole) so I have to ask... why? something something stiffness? sensitivity? did you get anything in the copy explaining the value or is it purely aesthetically motivated?
Dude the rebrand made all the bikes look WORSE. I can’t believe they got rid of the metal head tube badge. I think it was my favorite looking part of the bike. Now the head tube looks like every other bike.
The swing-arm design is necessary because of that big-ass motor sitting where the bottom bracket used to be. Interestingly enough, it looks strikingly similar to a lot of motorcycle swing-arms.
@@kenbest76 the more I see it the less I dislike it. I saw the interview on the lost co with the designer, really interesting to get some insight into the process.
Elevated chain stay or unified swing arm designs avoid the notoriously tight gap between the tire and chaining, which the addition of a motor makes even more complicated. Any bike with significant tire clearance has to go through ridiculous contortions to fit the chain stay in there, and this method just makes the problem go away. Also interesting: That clearance issue, and stiffening the chain stay, were the justifications for bumping out the chain line on the new swing arm versions of the ripely and ripmo, which is ok according to the drive train makers, but still less than ideal. I would love to see the eventual next gen 'naturally aspirated' ibis bikes go elevated chain stay as well once their team has a chance to dedicate some serious R&D time to them.
I ordered mine today based on how awesome the Ripmo V2 is. I'd seen no reviews till yours just now. Thoughts on the fork and brakes? Upgrade the damper, replace the brakes?
Wow that's long: 500 mm reach for a large. The Ripmo AF XL is 495. My 2019 bike is 460 as a large. An XL that is 5 years old was 457 mm. A 2017 Norco Range, large 432. Does everyone else have freakishly long arms?
If all other numbers stayed the same, yes that would be pretty long, but combined with the steeper seat tube angle, it doesn’t feel stretched out at all when climbing. It’s really informative to look at all the geo changes as a whole, because they add up to a better climbing *and* better descending bike.
I don’t hate ebikes. I have no problem with them. It’s the riders I loathe. They catch me on those climbs, as I’m panting and sweating. “Beautiful day for a ride isn’t it?” I their cheery, mocking voice and then zip away.
Haha I remember almost getting rear-ended by one while climbing Mt Fromme 😂 My reaction was a mix of “you bastard!” and “I can’t wait until I can do that”…
