to be fair to Penelope, yes she made some mistakes and stirred the pot a lil too much in the first two seasons, but she was also a teenager who acted on her emotions a LOT (she's 20 years old this season)
The thing that upsets me about Penelope is that even now she still acts irrationally when it comes to Lady Whistledown and the things she writes and then proceeds to publish for the entire town to read. Pen is well aware of the influence she has over the members of the town, and yet, she’s reckless with it. The minute her conversation with Colin didn’t go well, she went home a wrote about him and then later regretted it because she realized she did it in the heat of the moment. She doesn’t have the excuse of “she’s just a teenager” anymore to justify her being so quick to tarnish someone’s reputation. It’s irresponsible and kinda cruel.
Neither Eloise nor Penelope have the moral high ground here. Eloise was risking not only herself but her sisters with what she was doing. Penelope not only warned her but saved her. If she wasn't LW, and anyone else found out Eloise was meddling in things society disapproves AND meeting a man without a chaperone, she'd be ruined. And so would her youngest sisters. NO ONE would marry any of them. Why? Because they would blame her family as they didn't teach her to behave, which would automatically be true for her sisters as well. It's how things worked back then and it doesn't matter if you have influence. She couldn't tell the queen about LW, because she would be giving up the control of the narrative and the only way she knows to support herself. Penelope is not like Eloise, she doesn't have a brother to protect her if she doesn't marry. Up to that point, her family was broke and their future depended on her sister marrying their cousin. Penelope would be at their mercy, and they already treated her horribly. Eloise never listened to Penelope either, she's very self-centered. If their friendship was leveled, Eloise would've put the pieces together sooner. It's okay to be a little self-centered, I mean, women in general had it hard but Eloise is a lot more privileged than most. She has a nice family that respects and cares for her and would support her even if she ends up a spinster. And she didn't think of them when she started being reckless. So while Penelope does have the power to ruin lives here, she never does so out of cruelty (even with Marina, she tries several times to warn Colin and ask Marina to reconsider. Crush or not, he was her friend and he would be tricked to marrying a woman carrying the baby of another man). She tells the truth she perceives because people ignore her, and she tells it. Society is not any different. You see how they all whisper and mock her for asking for help. They all gossip, they all want to ruin others to come out on top. The thing is, Penelope built a persona that's taken seriously above everyone else and she controls the narrative. She does exactly what Eloise says she wants, something to control her own life. Which is probably the reason Eloise was so mad in the first place. Yes, she told her secret, but if she didn't, someone else would have and that would have ruined her way worse. Also, Eloise then befriends her former friend's bully, which makes her lose sympathy. You fight with your friend for gossiping and ruining people's lives and then befriends the girl who does the very same thing but in a less smart (or fair!) way? Truly a girl's girl, Eloise. As for what she does with Colin, he deserves it. He humiliated her and hurt her prospects. Colin is a Bridgerton and, more importantly, A MAN. His words have power. Colin saying he would never ever court her to other eligible young men signals that she's not worth pursuing, which leaves her marriage prospects even worse in a time where marriage is the only way for a woman to survive. Her father was dead, her family without money and her only male relative was a con man and Colin ruined her reputation by saying she was unmarriable. She went easy on him.
This is the FIRST TIME I've heard reason regarding Eloise and Pen. Thank you. I thought i was losing my mind. People are choosing to ignore the subtleties of this society just because their fave is doing a big sad.
These are my exact feelings when I think about their friendship. I can't imagine putting most of the blame of Pen when Eloise was ruining her life for the worse all by herself anyway. Pen was simply hiding smth private to her, and with all the dislike Eloise had towards LW, I wonder how she even thought that Pen would be open to her.
3:25 You're right! it is a book (and season) per child, but Francesca's book is actually about her finding love for the SECOND time, so they have a little bit of leeway to play around with her story this season
What’s crazy is that Lady Featherington(Penelope’s mom)treats her daughter like she’s an afterthought the most but in reality she has a lot more in common with Penelope than the older sisters. Both share the brain cell in that family. I believe Lady Featherington does love Pen but she also doesn’t seem to understand her as much as her older daughters. It’s sad because they could be a good team together if Pen had told her about LW. And I feel like one of the reasons why Penelope outed herself in the end wasn’t just because she truly believed that she can’t find love or that she was covering her tracks a bit, but also because she felt like she deserved it for what she did to Eloise last season. In a way both girls are even, I guess.
idk if you noticed because it was so quiet (i didnt know until i looked it up) but when Pen is talking to Lord Remington (the one who loves gossip) and Colin was looking at them, an orchestra version of Jealous by Nick Jonas was playing in the background
20:42 I reacted the same way, thinking “Come on! This is Cressida! she must have told her mom” but oh how wrong I was. I actually like that we got to see more of her side, that she has pressures to marry and she wants a good friend too, but I don’t think it was really necessary to the story. I honestly wish they gave more time to Colin.
If you enjoy the Bridgerton series you may also enjoy the Gilded Age. It's old money NY vs new money NY. Characters are gorgeous and extremely talented. Fashion is to gag for. You will especially enjoy Mr. Russell 😜
We've now finished the Boiling Rock two-parter. My sister deadass fell to the floor during the infamous firebending dragons scene and again at the "I love Zuko more than I fear you" line. I knew she would love this show 😂
I have been loving this season so far! We have been slowly watching these 2 fall in love with each other (pen longer) for the last few seasons. It's the season of Jane Austen's Emma and they've been doing a good job. This slow burn is great. While I understand why Eloise is angry I find it frustrating- what pen did was not good- but Eloise never stops to check her own privilege or the ways that she has hurt people in similar ways that Penn has. She loved whistledown and ate up everything she says she only became angry when pen as Whistledown told the truth about her- I need them to make up. Colin is so dense/thick about Penn's feelings, I think subconsciously he has always loved her but never really delved into his feelings to see how real they were because of subconsciously believing she would never reciprocate them . He also clearly represents knightly and Penelope represents Emma so it make sense that colin would hink she would never reciprocate his feelings.
You're right about it being a book per kid. They are setting up Francesca's story a little bit early right now because in her book there's like a 10-year time jump... So they kind of have to set things up ahead of time. Because there's literally no way that they can do Francesca's story without the 10 year time skip... Colin and Penelope's story also has a 10-year time skip but it isn't absolutely vital to the story and so they just removed it for the show... But then didn't really change ANY of the language used towards Penelope... Because in the book Penelope is genuinely a spinster. She's 28... But in the show... Shes under 24...so she is absolutely not a spinster.... They could have played it off that it was JUST Penelope feeling, herself, like she was a spinster... Because in episode 1 she's the only one who refers to herself as such if I remember correctly... But then in the second episode they had other people refer to as her as a spinster when she categorically is not. She's too young to be a spinster within their society... So yeah it's a little bit weird that they didn't do the time jump but then still keep having people call her Spinster.... That's like... Borderline lazy writing, in my opinion. The laziest bit of writing that we have gotten in this show so far, for sure.
Well, it's an alternative universe, fantasy world, kind-of-Regency-era series, where people of color are part of the aristocracy, contemporary songs have already been written as instrumental music, and so on. The rule can very well be that, if you get to your third year on the marriage mart without marrying, you're a spinster. Just like Penelope said.
In the show, the definitely have compressed the marriage mart timeline…. Remember Daphne was so worried that she wouldn’t marry in her 1st season (but I think in the books, it’s actually her 2nd). I also think potentially 3rd season isn’t technically a spinster yet. No one is saying that about Cressida yet, most likely because everyone still thinks she will marry someone (vs they don’t think a Wallflower like Penelope will)
9:09 hum... Don't bring attention into that, I have the impression that the way she says it is more common in the world than the way you say it (just a Brazilian advice)

I have to say, the deal with the younger Bridgertons on this show is a little weird to me. We know they're going to grow up and eventually get their own seasons in the future. Which means they're casting children for roles that they know will get quite steamy at some point. Even if that doesn't happen until they're adults, the whole thing still just feels a little icky to me.
They have the option to leave if they are uncomfortable. It’s uncomfortable to you because you feel like you watched them grow up but it’s not that serious. It’s all pretend and they will be like mid 20s by the time they have to do it. They will look more mature by then.
@@starchannel123 I understand that, and I'm not saying it'll be weird for them to act those parts (or even for us to see them) at that point in the future. I'm thinking of the casting director back in 2019 or whenever, having to cast two children with those future seasons in mind. That's the part that feels weird to me

Someone pointed out to me that we're supposed to hate and cringe at Colin's new attitude because it's a front he puts up since the Ton expects him to be a rake.
That was "Dynamite" by BTS, not Harry. I just wish they picked a different song, there is so much discography to choose from, but they went for the english song, of course.

Loved your reaction as always❤. You should watch society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, the acting was amazing
It's a Zebra, said the same way you'd pronounce Debra.
Penelope looks beautiful, but it's a little 1940s film noir with that Veronica Lake hairstyle.

It’s coming!! Just had to catch up on MID🫡
D4 just dropped a trailer
yup had the same reactions to this as you did except I already liked Penelope just because I have read the book and I'm so excited for you to react to the next 2 episodes and the rest of the season. Also, you might still be liking eloise but at the moment I hate her I need her and Penelope to be friends again because this is really annoying me.
Colin can miss Penelope and still not want to court her, though.
Im going to be honest. Im 9:01 in and I have yet to see a dress I like
LMAO
Batman, newly neutered cat has been up my butt for the past week. Soon to be hubby cant touch me without him standing guard lol
I have never watched this series but I hear so much about it. I’ve tried to get into it but I can’t get past the 1st episode it seems like it drags a bit ….Can anyone tell me what I’m missing? What is this series really about?
18th century queens and kings duke and countess basically that fall in love or dont if u know rege jean page (he was in the first season and recently in dungeons and dragons) and phoebe deynor (who was in the first season played by daphne) became his wife ❤️ but he doesn't return he dies in the book season 2 her brother Anthony gets with kate and now we're here to sum it up it actually doesn't get drag out its pretty spicy quick and lots of secrets get revealed
