- Welcome aboard to the 10th Steam Trains Galore video! To celebrate the tenth year of the series, we will visit even more steam trains of all different types, located all over the country. We'll start off with a look at the Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy locomotive on two different excursions in 2019 and 2022. From there, we will visit several different railroads in the Western United States as well as one in the Midwest and one in the East. Many different types of locomotives are featured including all three different types of geared logging steam locomotives, old wood burning locomotives from the 1870s, and articulated tank engines. From the waters of the Pacific to the heart of Appalachia in West Virginia, Steam Trains Galore 10 promises to be the best video in the series yet! Music was once again recorded by S.J. Armstrong for this video.

@@theextremeanimator4721 old 21 was a Baldwin built new for our railroad and the only locomotive of that status. It was the crown jewel of the fleet and the ladt one to be retired. You'll often see photos of Walt Disney in the cab because he and the railroad's owner were very close. Its in Astoria Oregon now

Great video! But I have a question. In most of the trains, close to the steam train, there is something that looks like an electric or diesel train. What is it there for? Is the steam train not strong enough? Or is it something different altogether?

Hi Mike, i’m the parent of a 4 year old who has watched many of your videos hundred of times since he was old enough to do so! He asks for them by name (a mike armstrong video!). I wondered if theres any chance of getting a video or purchasing a file of the song at the intro of this video. He loves it so much that he asks to restart the video like 15 times so we can hear the first 10 seconds 😂 i did search it out but no luck. Thank you!!

Hey Mike, which 4014 whistle do you like better? The original service whistle which 4014 wears in the 40s and 50s and placed on the 844 or the other whistle when 4014 wears from 1962 to 2021? Also, I love how you include 4014 in 2022 and 2019!

Mike I am gonna be honest, when I was a kid I was only a diesel fan lol! I wasn't really into steam for whatever reason when I was a kid! However thanks to a cool book I own, I grew to LOVE steam just as much if not more then diesels! Another great video man! I think I was cheering at all the great clips you shot here haha! Great video as usual! :)

The whistle 4014 on her trip to Denver and back which 844 had worn for over a decade is in fact her original whistle she wore in service back in the 40s. Ed somehow found it and we've been hearing 4014 sing out ever since. That whistle is much more befitting a big boy, it has WAY more of a roar to it. The new old stock whistle 4014 wears now isn't bad, but it's a bit more mellow in its tones.
I knew about the original 4014 whistle. It's cool that Ed found it. Is that whistle no longer on the 4014?
@@CoasterFan2105 unfortunately not, Ed should have put it back on 4014 and gave living legend the new one, but that's my opinion anyway.

@@CoasterFan2105 that whistle is actually on 844 and will stay with her according to Ed. The one she has now is the one she had back in 2019. It was a New Old Stock whistle put on before her donation in 1962.

Because it is. The 844 was using the 4014s original whistle for years. They finally swapped it back.
