Really nice video! I'm glad someone got these! Glad to see they're still in service on the rails! I remember riding on them in Alaska... Boy, 702 has a GREAT K5LA!
Trimet just got another pair of these RDCs from Texas. They say it will take a year to get it going and then all of the Wes trains will be double trains not singles
Where is this? United States? All you gave us is some obscure initials and towns I have never heard of. Good video though, and good to see these trains running again.
This is the WES Commuter Rail system operated by TriMet, between Beaverton and Wilsonville, Oregon (west and southwest of Portland). The trains are operated by personnel of the Portland & Western Railroad on P&W's Oregon Electric District.
Australian has the Budd Car (CB1 and CB2), sadly the CB 3 was in a fatal level crossing, killing a passenger and the driver. Is there anyone that can contact me in relation to the building and servicing of the Budd Cars. The CB 1 has been totally restored and the CB 2 may be acquired by myself if I can gain financial help to restore it and also gain servicing of the train, this is Australia last CB train in its rail history.

I love these full size rail cars that move on their own ....What a fantastic concept ...Lets bring these back .....Great!!!!!
Beautifully restored. The ones Canadian National and CPR have are all beat up looking and converted into high speed track inspection cars.
These are the kind of cars we need more of
I will say one thing about these WES. The seats are pretty comfy !!
Oh Buddies! Both ex-Reading Company and both ran in SEPTA service for only 2 years and now there back! Such a big step from 1982.
I love these cars
an e-bell on an RDC. Now I've seen everything.
Great video, Love the RDC's
Nice Video
I Love budd cars way more than i think's healthy...
beautiful train cars
Rode these RDC type trains on B&O tracks into DC for several yrs. Takes 2 operators. Seating was old & had problems.
I always liked the RDC's !
weird how they are being operated from the B ends, VIA Rail always has the A ends only.

WOW this was awesome :-D. Also sounds like these were Cummins Q Series powered
damn, the original engines were amazing and sounded like a 6v92
They make beautiful curve noises
Very NICE!!
@Polybun now I got ya, these RDC's are ex Alaskan Railway, VIA still has a few of theirs kicking around, and a few more are being rebuilt.
@Polybun IDK how rough operators are in the States, but in Canada, the guys treat the equipment like it's their own !
It appears that the Roof Blister has been elongated or altered in some fashion. Any Rivet Counters out there want to verify this?
All this proves is that nobody rides the train. Good to see the old cars still run.
Um thats cause it was a test run
The trucks look new. How else were they refurbished?? Were they re-engined as well??
@Polybun I don't know why you think the A end controls would trashed or falling apart ??

Erik Halstead Thanks for the info!
Are they finished with the testing?
good to see some old RDD's being used again.
why did TriMet order more trains? are more people riding WES now?
For a backup train since the Colorado Railcars have been unreliable.
For now, These are the last two Budd RDCs in revenue service.
No, Some tourist railroads use them.
VIA in Canada still has a handful for the Sudbury-White River route in Ontario as well
1:21 what was that horn it was amazing
Sounds like a K5LA to me
Reminds me of an Amtrak AEM-7AC
Travelled on 2 in Cuba and one in Brazil (Narrow guage)
@pdxsteam I think these are going to used as backup and not in everyday service.
Officially they are "backup" but they are used quite regularly.
I thought RDCs were gas.....did these have diesels installed later?
always diesels
@@gacj2010 I was thinking of Doodlebugs
@@alcopower5710 Love the idea of a self contained engine /passenger car....Bring them back
@@gacj2010 .....agree
These cars are of 1953 desigin. But what is the budd company doing now??!!
Gone,... Merged into Thyssen Krupp to make Elevators.
@@GeneralHawk505 Who's going to make the RDCs now?!
@@Ih8kone American railcar, ex Colorado railcar
@@thestarlightalchemist7333 And who's going make the Amtrak Amfleet cars now?!?!
I hope the flimsy to non-existent protection for the engineer was modified as part of the refurbishing
@Polybun I don't get your question.

In the united states, I must add.
sounds worse then nails on a chock board
I enjoyed this, but I found the horn too noisy.
If you don't like train horns DEAL WITH IT OR JUST MOVE OUT.
