As a German who grew up exploring many of the countless WW1 and WW2 Bunkers everywhere here, i was looking forward to this Game a lot, because Bunkers of those Wars in general are scary as hell, even in Real Life where there are no Monsters ( don't tell me otherwise ). Now i'm in my mid-30s and became a Historian for the IFZ in Munich after my Military Service, yet still also volunteer each Year to explore/recovery WW1/WW2 Remains, which sometimes includes Bunkers believe it or not. So as weird as it sounds, we do sometimes go into Bunker Systems both from the Eastern and Western Front which had not been explored since WW2 and everything is untouched and there indeed we still discover Remains of Soldiers (from any Side). I could talk forever about this but what i'm trying to say is that WW1 and WW2 Bunkers are a great Atmosphere for a Horror Game. In fact, it's about Time someone created a Horror Game in this Scenario. Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps (And please don't explore old Bunker Systems unless you do it officially, it's a Miracle that not-so-smart Kids as me and Friends back in the Day never ended up dead in one of our Explorations)

Ahhh, but if I did have amnesia about playing Amnesia, my house would be full of diaries very vaguely talking about how I may or may not have played Amnesia.
@@ManyATrueNerd but Jon, with your perception, would you even notice if your house was full of ominous diary entries? Maybe you should ask Claire if she's seen any.

Imagine the culture shock of being an ancient roman monster. You spend hundreds of years haunting sextus with his toga and his rock, then like 2 thousand years later people show up with guns
Here's something. Trench rats that size are pretty historically accurate. They grew to huge sizes and weren't just scavengers. I believe there was an account a mousing cat was brought in to deal with some in a bunker. The cat didn't survive long....
This video got me to go back to your Soma series, and literally within 15 seconds of the video you say: "Welcome to Soma [...] from the same folks who made Amnesia: the Dark Descent." So I hope you'll understand my confusion at your claim that you only learned the Soma people also made Amnesia yesterday...
I was traumatized by Amnesia: The Dark Descent, back in the day. Honestly, it got to the point where I just couldn't keep playing it, it was so terrifying. So I just started watching this with some pleasurable anticipation of seeing Jon get terrified rather than me :) :)
im a weenie who doesnt really play spooky games but watching jon play them is awesome! soma was one of my favorite playthroughs of yours, if you do more of the bunker i'll def be watching. cheers!
The conclusion was what I expected tbh - I was surprised when I saw Jon had picked this up at all. The Amnesia games are definitely more straight horror than SOMA, and so well outside of Jon's usual wheelhouse, but I'm glad he gave it a try as I think The Dark Descent is pretty much a must-play for anyone whether they're into horror games or not, and The Bunker seems to have a really similar feel from what I've seen so far.
The rooms around 18:O0 are occupied by people with names that are so common in Rhode Island, particularly Woonsocket which has a large French Canadian population. I referenced Woonsocket but the two people I mentioned were from my home town.
When excavation was first mentioned, I thought it was about digging a mine, as in a tunnel under no man's land to blow up enemy trench from below. This video is all I seen from this game, so maybe it actually is that, and they just found roman tunnel by accident
I watched someone play the first part of this, but they are used to these games and it wasn't nearly as scary as watching Jon get the pants scared off him.
game explicitly says "if you think something might be possible to do, it probably is" *explicitly places explosives nearby to a room that requires dynamite but has it do absolutely nothing* getting mixed messages from amnesia here
Day 1057 of requesting Zoo Tycoon. I was always impressed by how complex the trenches in the first world war could get. It was as if someone took mankind's instinctual love for digging holes and turned it against us.
This game plays a lot different than the others, almost like Alien: Isolation -- as expected, Frictional totally nailed the atmosphere though, the sound design especially is amazing. Love all their games from Penumbra onward, one of the few devs that does horror right and they rarely miss.
This is definitely amazingly entertaining horror adventure game that I hope will become Let's Play! You do know how much we love watching you play horror aspect of fun entertaining adventure games! I love horror games since I had played my first one called Eternal Darkness. ❤
I love reading the history of WWI and fiction and film with WWI as it's setting. There is a really creepy horror film starring Jamie Bell, Christopher Eccleston et al and recently Roger Clarke of RDR2 fame did a WWI horror short film with a very similar sounding plot. The barbed wire and trenches are in themselves really awful. The bodies of soldiers that couldn't be retrieved would be basically left to rot on the barbed wire or in the trenches. When troops gained a bit of territory, the soldiers would have to use the trenches of the enemy or Allies and there would be bones and other human remains. Highly recommended is Pat Barker's WWI trilogy: Regeneration The Eye in the Door The Ghost Road They aren't at all supernatural but WWI is an inherently horrible subject. The books are really beautiful and the final one "The Ghost Road" is heartbreaking. It won the Booker Prize in 1995.
A direct sequel probably never but we might get a sidequel, PATHOS-II wasn’t the only underwater facility in the world, we might get something set in the same universe but in a different location, much like how the Amnesia games are in the same universe but are narratively disconnected from each other.
I gotta admit, as someone with no special connection to the Amnesia franchise, it doesn't reflect great on the game how it tells Jon "Hey, experiment! It'll probably work!", and then the first time he tries to experiment, it doesn't work.
hey Jon, so this is about XCom2 but this is your latest video so hopefully you see it. Bit of a warning(?) but recently played the hunters DLC as I had never tried it before and wow, balance of the hunters NEEDS work. The hunter kings(?) get an action for EVERY action you take, not just on their turn, but literally EVERY action you take; fire, move, one action or two action, anything. Granted I am playing on the 3rd difficulty but seriously, so unbalanced. Hopefully you're playing on a save files because I would genuinely suggest giving it a shot but also looking for some sort of balance mod which must be out there. Even on one turn of their own they would be a real challenge but in their current state they are just WAY too OP, making for quite literally impossible situations. Hope this helps!!
They're scary at first but, like any threat in XCOM, you learn to deal with them. Notably, Damage over time effects are super effective because they tick every time the ruler takes an action. They also don't get a turn if you use abilities that don't cost an action, like lightning hands, and the effect only triggers for soldiers in view of the ruler (so eg squadsight snipers don't trigger actions on shots.) Plus, most importantly, they're not really meant to be beaten in a single stroke. Their health carries over between missions and they NEVER heal. Once they take enough damage in a single mission they run. So you can play it safe and chip away at them over time, use guaranteed damage like grenades etc. People have been playing the game since 2016 and deal with the the alien rulers fine, myself included (and I'm not very good, only play on normal without ironman.) I love that joke Jon does every time he plays an Amnesia game where he says he doesn't remember ever playing the previous Amnesia games.
"Dont't make noise" - Jon starts throwing around chairs.
This is off to a good start.
I love the fact that Jon even remotely think thr springs in a pocket watch would work outside of the pocket watch
Fallout 4 really messed with him.
I love that in a game where Jon is told that loud noises attracts the beasties and he absolutely wont crouch-sneak
It seems to use Alien Isolation rules: As long as you don't run, walking is quiet enough, unless something's right on top of you.
While logically it might make sense that having more lights on would use more power, that would completely invalidate the entire pocketwatch mechanic.
