As a furniture painter myself, I’ve learned that everyone is entitled to an opinion and their own style. If you appreciate wood grains don’t paint, if you just aren’t that into grains, paint it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, we live in free countries here! For which I am sure we are all thankful!
    It looks great Mary!

Then why buy antique? There are so many choices without using an antique that survived more than 100 years in its original color? It's a free country, her money, and just my opinion.

@@marshaaoolie8474 Hello. One reason I know of: my niece gave me an old desk/table many years ago that was left in a house that she had moved into. It was pretty old already and had several layers of different colors of paint on it. I thought I would strip the paint off and stain it, as I love wood grains, worm holes, etc. However, once I had removed the paint from the top, I could see the wood had some bad water stains. I tried to sand them out but it was just too deep into the wood. So, painting was the only option. (Unless you don't mind those ugly dark rings and splotches).
Perhaps a professional knows how to fix that kind of damage, but I don't.
I still have that piece and still love it. 🙂
I also have an antique dresser that I begged off my ex-husband. He had removed whatever stain or paint had been on it, but for some reason, instead of staining, he burned the wood (Sugi (?) syle); I guess he thought it "looked cool". It didn't! LOL. Again, damaged beyond my ability to fix. But I absolutely love that dresser and it took me 14 years to get it from him! He finally gifted it to me when we divorced. I still have it and I still love it, paint and all.
I could go on, as there are a couple other antique pieces that I have and have had to paint rather than stain. I guess it's just my lot to come across damaged furniture. Fortunately, I also love painted furniture. 😁

@@MaryGatdula The antique in question appeared to be in original condition. Go for it if an old antique has already been destroyed by being painted! But when someone finds an antique in oiginal condition then paints it loses its antique market value. Always the owner's call but it's a pity.

That color is so pretty! I’m sure they are quite happy with it. I like it displayed with the old dishes! A question-as traditional farmhouse decor is waning just a bit in popularity, how do you see the farmhouse decor blending with modern decor or even boho? I don’t care for boho in and of itself but I do like the more modern decor in some applications.

Mary, I know this question serves no purpose but was there a way to use a glass cutter on the top and bottom to save the major portion. Was the glass glued to each shelf? The glass was so ornate I was sad to see it broken and thought it may be repurposed.

Ohhhhhh Mary, I always always love what you do but I immediately had a panic attack when I saw that beautiful oak hutch and definitely not a fan of the gray. I know it's for someone else. You're a good person for agreeing to do this for them but I think I would have said no.
    Love everything else you do.

I agree. Too many. I understand she is using this channel to promote her business and make money through these ads, but to me is not worth it to continue watching when I counted 6 or 7 ads in a 21 minutes video.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! We have a 70's (?) china hutch that was my mother-in-law's (before she died) and I wanted to give it a makeover, but then I felt bad for changing a family piece. Then after thinking about it, I know beyond a doubt that SHE would definitely want me to make it my own. So, I've been thinking about it again, for over a year! I can honestly say I had never thought about using gray; I always thought I would use white. However, I absolutely love this so much! So you've definitely inspired me! You have done that more than once now, so I am now a subscriber! So, hello friend!

Usually I just love your work....but rare quarter sawn oak.....I would have tried very hard to talk the owner out of the idea or at least trade or purchase the piece away from her....I guess I'm a vintage aficionado...they don't make quarter sawn oak anymore. Those pieces are treasures.
