He such a good play maker from his position, it is Jokic-lite. Makes quick decisions and knows how to read a defense. Knows how to play in a sophisticated offense, plays hard, was coached hard. GREAT hands. Catches everything, catches in traffic and finishes in traffic. Very underrated ability.
I could see the Hawks getting him. Clingan has a high floor. Does a lot of things well. Seems to have a high level understanding of the game. Sets screens well. For 7’2 he has great feet, ability to turn his hips & transition in pick & roll defense, excellent rim protector & plenty skill to grow on the offensive side. You’re definitely a hater lol his ceiling is super high
He dominated that game against Illinois! If Coach Hurley manages to pull off the 3-peat next year after losing the entire starting 5 to the NBA he belongs in the HOF
Hawks would be blowing a huge opportunity to finally get off the Capela train and get a young guy with high potential who can fit well with Trae, Jalen Johnson having a full healthy season and Dejounte getting traded for good role players and picks.
Wouldn’t be a bad idea but if the Hawks know that OKC would offer that to the Wizards then I’d consider taking Clingan. Hawks could use 4 future first rounders lol.. I’d take Clingan #1 anyway without or without a trade offer 🤷♂️
Honestly as a OKC fan I hope Sam Presti trades up to #2 to draft him. We will give y’all 3 future 1st and this years 12th pick and Josh Giddey I think Donovan Clingan is that good I would pull the trigger on this trade in a heart beat!
I hope the hawks get him. He would massively be better than Clint Capela. I definitely would trade Capela, Bey plus our pick just to get him. He's worth it. We could trade Hunter and Murray for a high pick too, I think the Hawks will keep Trae, because i believe no team right now wants to deal with his defensive flaws. But we definitely need Donovan Clingan
We NEED a legit 7 footer with size and defensive presence to pair with Trae. I’m worried that he hasn’t been a better rebounder but a 7”2 center that is relatively mobile, can play in the pick and roll with Trae and gives us the size at center that we’ve desperately need is just what this team is missing .
@William_Stephens Donovan Clingan certainly fits the bill, he can rebound, shoot, pass, above all block shots and has a decent wingspan to help that. Pick and roll is part of the offense he's already used to. Clint Capela needs to get traded for another pick or be packaged with Murray and Hunter incase the Hawks get unlucky in the lottery tonight. AJ Griffin deserves a shot at starting sg, his defense and clutch will go a long way for us going forward. We'll have to see what the front office does
He would’ve been great in like 2009. In today’s NBA he’ll be the dude nobody covers in the playoffs, he’ll get pulled away from the rim a lot on switches and by stretch 5s, and he will seldom get post touches. Basically gotta be a Gobert or he’ll be an average starter. It would be great if he suddenly develops a jumper but I trust guards much more to do that than 7’2 bigs. How quick are his feet is the big question for me. I don’t think you can draft him in the top 5 unless you think he’s nimble enough to survive on switches.
He’s actually a not a bad shooter, he just never shot that much at UConn because it wasn’t his role but the form is definitely there to build on. It looked good when he did shoot it. Size will always be covered in the league and he’s 20 years old. He’s got plenty of potential, far more than Rudy offensively.
If the rockets could draft him that would be awesome we need a big man off the bench badly probably won’t happen because we have Steven adams now but I wouldn’t complain if they got him
