I’m currently playing Thunder Dragons in Master Duel. I think it’s a fun deck, definitely one of the most interesting I’ve ever played (I usually play linear Otk decks). I do still need to properly learn how to play it and the meta as a whole.
@@tehjefey not taking the max c challenge doesn’t mean just end your turn, it means not to do your full combo. You do what you can to survive the next turn.
The list is honestly optimized. Good lists run 2 Matrix and a Chaos Creator as follow-up to search off of T Drag Fusion on turn 3. Only non-optimal card in main is Levi, list is very well built

It's also just better to keep your Thunder monsters in GY so you can use them to protect Colossus. Danger/Dragon versions will run Levi since they have better ways to facilitate it and search it outside of just Chaos Space unlike pure versions
Yay! Happy to see SMD on my favorite deck. For those looking to play this for ranking up ladder: I really suggest throwing in Union Carrier and Dragon Buster Destruction Sword. 95% of decks will scoop to a T1 Colossus with Dragon buster attached. Chaos Creator is good! Seaching it turn 3 off TD fusion and then using it to push into a borrelsword/accesscode comes up quite often. :)
Agreed. Colossus is at 1 and Thunder Dragon is hardly a problem either in the OCG or in Master Duel. Yes, these two formats have Maxx "C", but Thunder is a deck that isn't hurt that much by it (unlike, say, Rhongo) compared to other strategies. So if it isn't a problem in these formats, it should be manageable in the TCG as well and that would add another playable deck to those available.
Thank you for this Returned to YGO and always loved Thunder Dragons, but I didn't even know that there were new cards that even made them good, so this is really great for me. :D
Shame you missed the glory days back in 2019 TOSS format when the deck was at its prime, but at least you get to enjoy colossus here in MD! Although its not at full power in MD, or tcg for that matter, its still fun and I hope you enjoy them!

After returning to the game with Master duel. I've really found your style of content enjoyable and helpful. I hope Konami gets it's shit together so we can see some new innovative deck profiles instead of full power banned cards turbo. I've using a thunder dragon link build, I forgot that nemesis corridor existed so it was bricky, but when it went off it was nuts! Colossus plus spheres and a S/T negate as well as tidying. Colossus is broken because it forces your opponent to deal with your board with what's in their opener. Also love the fun content! Keep doing wierd and crazy nonsense
You can also tech in Denko Sekka. Thunder Dragon Fusion's GY effect is *generic* Thunder searching, so if someone slaps down a whole facedown backrow you can search her out and slap her down to turn it all into a pile of bricks.
The variant of T-drag I've been playing on ladder is Myutant. The amount of synergy the two archetypes has is insane; it bricks a bit more but you have the ability to end on Colossus and a spell negate bare minimum. Super fun deck.
Personally I don't think cross sheep does a lot for the deck. It plays mostly level 5 monsters so it's not going to be summoning a lot for you and aloof lupine needs to be normal summoned for the effect. I like running artifact dagda, and I would drop chaos levi for artifact scythe. Dagda will cheat artifact scythe out, and you can use titan to pop it early during your opponent's turn to lock them out of their extra deck.
Ok, we all know how strong the banned toss cards are Harp, engage, colossus and electrumite probably have to stay on the banlist But its just g l o r i o u s to see them all legal again in the same place.
Funny you should mention Orcust having Harp in Master Duel. Surprisingly, Galatea being limited really does handicap the deck in a way I didn't expect.
Hornet Drones was the reason SS stuff got splashed everywhere and used for Link climbing, that's the real problem card that needed a ban. Not that Engage wasn't also insane, but that at least requires setup to get its full effect, while Drones always leads into a potential Link 2.
Ah that match feels exactly like how all my matches vs this deck were during Eternal format because I was on Salad and True Draco because I couldn’t afford a $600 Thunder Dragon Colossus. I do miss Colossus sometimes, but then I also miss Master Peace so I have no idea what that says about me as a player.
As a long time thunder dragon player (played the deck since its release), this is actually a pretty good list. Chaos creator is optimal, and so is 2 matrix. 3 matrix bricks and chaos creator is super strong as follow up and helps with the decks natural ability to recycle, and he turns into colossus :D, he can also help recycle him too if you need to use your fusion and chaos space recycles on other cards. Only thing I dislike, and this is strictly a me thing, its honestly fine to run, is the 1 of instant fusion, just personally not a fan of an unsearchable 1 of taking an ed slot, again, thats a me thing, its its perfectly fine and still good to run if you want it. So good job on the list tbh, pretty much how you should be building the deck
I love Thunder Dragon. I don't play the TCG competitively, but Thunder Dragons got me to high Gold/low Platinum at probably only a Match every other day. It's not even about Colossus, I just like the versatility of Titan.
Why Imperm over Veiler? While Imperm is a bit stronger on the whole, Veiler complements a lot of chaos techs due to being light attribute. Also lets you do selene line, which normally I find to be uhhh scraping the bottom of the barrel, but it's not nothing.
Imperm is much much more flexible, for starters it gets by the usual handtrap hate of called by and gamma, it can also be use during your turn which is a big thing, you want those effects to resolve and Apollo and pretty much every negate will get in the way of that, also the imperm column is something that gets someone every once in awhile and man is it devastating
Also for the Selene line you need to hard draw a tuner and fit halq in there to search which as you can see while extra space is not that tight it's not so free to cut either
@@nguyentandung42 oh of course, I 100% agree that imperm is better *in general* and can even think of a few additional reasons, but it can be surprising how often you need those extra lights in grave for chaos techs--though, granted, this is coming from a DLink player, so a lack of lights might come up less for TD. Veiler is also slightly better in Maxx C meta than it is in TCG meta for obvious reasons, but I'm not sure if that alone is enough to run it in a deck that otherwise wouldn't benefit from Veiler over Imperm.
A very powerful deck for sure capable of link spamming and making big board. The deck is full of extender, so it seldom bricks. The ideal end board consists of apple, colossus, ip, and snow in grave, and spirit master pop if you play that card. Downside is that it takes forever to combo off, and you would probably experience several occurrences of high blood pressure and raging seeing the system always American Sniper your danger off your hand
Chaos thunder dragon was the best. It was the iteration right before crusadia that used the guard dragon links and galaxy dark matter dragon to make a full board and then end on the floodgate dragon that stopped you from using your extra deck
Great video and an amazing deck! The fact that Thunder Dragon isn't really dominating the current format (either in the OCG or Master Duel) is a prime example of power creep in the game's recent history.
They have a bunch of hits in a deck that's already kind of inconsistent These types of pure thunder builds were already losing popularity towards the end of 2019
@@andrejv.2834 Interestingly enough, most of those hits occurred in the first half of 2019 (which seems to have surprised many in the OCG, given that Thunder Dragon was meta but hardly oppressive even before that). From June 2019 onwards, Thunder Dragon managed to cling on with only 1 Colossus and 1 Hawk and even became the second most represented deck by August and September 2019, rising to the top of the meta by October after Dragon Link had been hit. Since then, the only hit it has taken is Roar to 2, which is arguably more than compensated by the release of other cards, most prominently Chaos Space which does nearly everything the deck could ask for. Therefore, it's not a stretch to say that modern versions of Thunder Dragon are stronger than the ones of, say, September 2019. Yet in spite of that, Thunder is not even close to Tier 1 status (as you've pointed out, it has been on a decline since late 2019). So that's why I think that this is a prime example of power creep.
@@Ragnarok540 In the period I'm referring to, Colossus and Hawk were already at 1 and the deck was still one of the best in the OCG, in contrast to today. I don't think that Roar to 2 is that decisive. The one deck from that era that would probably break Yu-Gi-Oh if it got its tools back would be Dragon Link.
Colossus is the card that I'm most looking forward to using again in Master duel. Between Subterror, Nemesis and Thunder Dragon itself, there are just so many ways to get Colossus on field and its just such a strong auto win button for many decks
I've been playing an almost identical list to this in Master Duel so far and it's an absolute blast to play, provided the game doesn't immediately end when my opponent sees Konami's colossal purple mistake (love that phrase) hit the board.

Thunder Dragon was originally my plan for Master Duel but a few good pulls plus the (theoretical) inevitability of DPE made me go heroes instead. I hope to go back to Thunder Dragon eventually though, so I'm holding onto the Titan I pulled.
Invoked Tdrag got me to plat in season 1 Deck is really funny to make a ton of plays with the near infinite TDrag engine, get hand trapped, and then slapping down an Aleister and watching people scoop
Nice list! Personally, I've been playing the build that uses a Lightsworn package to get access to Synchro 8s (specifically Chaos Ruler). Raiden is the main normal summon over Aloof. I'm hoping to get some better links to go into, but I hit Plat 1 with it last season. Thunder Dragons are still very potent in MD.
Chaos ruler does SO MUCH for the deck. I used to play it by playing assault mode package. The payoff was phenomenal, but I got extremely aggravated opening assault mode like 80% of the time, so I cut the engine entirely lol
@@shen.daniel Raiden has really good synergy with the baby chaos dragons, chaos valkyria, and danger mothman. Raiden + any of those on the field is a free Chaos Ruler.

I always thought Thunder dragons would play batteryman solar too as a possible normal summon. or is it not good in that particular list? I use it in my TD deck and it works pretty well, especially with black or white dragon in hand too and it gives you an additional token for cross sheep plays for example
It used to be standard when hawk was still at 3. I still play one copy for the same reason as you gave, but most of the time lupine is a better normal summon, to me anyway
I have both Thunder Dragon Colossus and one of my Titans in royal finish. I never had a choice in playing this deck. What's your opinion on Union Carrier with Dragon Buster Destruction Sword to equip to Thunder Dragon Colossus?
Firstly, you are committing a war crime not playing TD when you have both of the boss monsters in fricking royal rare. I envy you so much lmao Secondly, the buster lock thing, it's utility is debatable. Obviously, the lock is incredibly powerful, but it also means you have a chance of opening the soft garnet, which never feels good. I personally don't play it, but it definitely worth a try.
@@shen.daniel Ah, sorry, I should have been more clear - I never had a choice in whether or not I should play this deck. I *had* to. I'd like to think that the royal finish is from all the Wattchimaeras I had to grind up to make them.
It wasn't like the control and combo variants were both equally good, there was usually a correct option, just that nib and DRNM being introduced to the game made the control variants a lot better. So it went from combo with d link stuff being a lot better to the "pure" version of the deck doing more, especially after the agrapain ban, though the deck had largely fallen off the previous ban list.
Chaos creator is, from anything, very playable in chaos skull servant Can recycle skull servant banish, bring back mezuki and prince, and is a "free" summon that can extend ur plays
My plat 1 deck this season. Droplet over Imperm and Nibiru over Ash ( Colossus already covers Ash’s most potent effect) and you’re all set. Free wins against Drytron cuz apparently Drytron players never run any effect negation (Imperm or Droplet) from my ladder experience.
0:54 Love me some TD hate 🙏🏽 Too many people slop on Eternal format. I'm ok with 1 Colossus but some things like Chaos Space would at least have to be limited. The card could be limited now and I wouldn't care; it's super free.

Gotta love the big purple dragon (no not the interplanetarypurplythorny dragon). This list is very similar to my own build. As a TD player, though link spamming in MD playing 60 card grass TD is hella fun, it's no matched to this original build jamming with tiny chaos package. The deck is so incredibly neat, and the satisfaction of slamming down colossus is unparalleled. Also thank the f god that you are not playing the level 9 TD main deck monster. That card is garbage, and it pains me to see tons of new MD TD players are playing that card.
Also here's a hot take, one hawk is not as detrimental as many would think. The only noticeable difference is 0 battery man solar, which would have paired excellently with hawk. (I still play one copy because of incidental synergy with baby chaos dragons, but for most of the time lupine is a better NS) Hawk is searchable via dark, which you are basically guaranteed to see after going through a typical TD combo, and you can recycle it with fusion, and then search it out next turn using the fusion. Funny enough, I think the roar hit probably affect more because it hurts the grind game of the deck. Because of colossus's limited status, outside of fusion, you'd have to use roar to recycle it, which is only viable for like a couple of turns.
@@johnathanlemus5584 I'm biased obviously, but sadly no. There are just too many decks that have great out for colossus. Eldlich can send colossus to grave, Shuraig can banish, VFD can stun the deck, and drytron just says NO to every other decks. Hypothetically, if the deck were untouched, the deck would be stronger than ever for sure, but the aforementioned decks are still ready to discharge TD at anytime.

@@shen.daniel Colossus can stay at 1 for sure I’m talking about hits around the deck to prevent T1 status for the TCG. Master duel keeps it in check with Maxx c, Hawk at 1 and Roar at 2 so it isn’t as insane
I found myself bricking a lot going first with this build,(most times Drawing to many going second cards) sometimes you only have 1 play and It gets hand traped your turn ends.
The deck is a balance of TD and chaos engine, but it also means you need both engine present in your hand to combo off. Ideally you want to go first, so I'd suggest go easy on the going second cards
9 handtraps is way too much if you actually want to put up good turn 1 boards, everyone seems married to 3c 3ash in literally every single deck without second thought. Lot of hands are suboptimal playing so much bloat.
I'm having such a hard time making oure thunder dragon work for me. Witchcrater with secret village and decree has been more successful. Plus I run nemesis so I can still go into colossus

I feel like aloof lupine is one of the sickest cards that sees almost no play. I mean it banishes from hand for cost, it's so underrated.

I went to a 13 game win streak to plat 1 at the end of last season while I was learning how to go full combo with Thunder Dragons. Love this deck!

I really like Chaos Valkyria as a thunder enabler and a way to mill snow
Strictly as an alternative to jamming a million dangers to make curious. Other than that chaos creator is way better.

This list is sick! Any thoughts on a Grass build of it? I want a place to jam all the Fairy Tail Snows I pulled.
A very powerful deck for sure capable of link spamming and making big board. The deck is full of extender, so it seldom bricks. The ideal end board consists of apple, colossus, ip, and snow in grave, and spirit master pop if you play that card.
Downside is that it takes forever to combo off, and you would probably experience several occurrences of high blood pressure and raging seeing the system always American Sniper your danger off your hand
Farfa has a video on a grass list made by one of the best combo pilots of all time, just play something like that.
Chaos thunder dragon was the best. It was the iteration right before crusadia that used the guard dragon links and galaxy dark matter dragon to make a full board and then end on the floodgate dragon that stopped you from using your extra deck
Also this isn’t even the best list on master duel. The 60 card pile is better so you don’t brick on all the thunder dragons
Great video and an amazing deck! The fact that Thunder Dragon isn't really dominating the current format (either in the OCG or Master Duel) is a prime example of power creep in the game's recent history.
They have a bunch of hits in a deck that's already kind of inconsistent
These types of pure thunder builds were already losing popularity towards the end of 2019
@@andrejv.2834 Interestingly enough, most of those hits occurred in the first half of 2019 (which seems to have surprised many in the OCG, given that Thunder Dragon was meta but hardly oppressive even before that). From June 2019 onwards, Thunder Dragon managed to cling on with only 1 Colossus and 1 Hawk and even became the second most represented deck by August and September 2019, rising to the top of the meta by October after Dragon Link had been hit. Since then, the only hit it has taken is Roar to 2, which is arguably more than compensated by the release of other cards, most prominently Chaos Space which does nearly everything the deck could ask for. Therefore, it's not a stretch to say that modern versions of Thunder Dragon are stronger than the ones of, say, September 2019. Yet in spite of that, Thunder is not even close to Tier 1 status (as you've pointed out, it has been on a decline since late 2019). So that's why I think that this is a prime example of power creep.
It's like this just because Colossus is at one and other Thunder Dragons are also limited. Too much power for Yu-Gi-Oh.
@@Ragnarok540 In the period I'm referring to, Colossus and Hawk were already at 1 and the deck was still one of the best in the OCG, in contrast to today. I don't think that Roar to 2 is that decisive. The one deck from that era that would probably break Yu-Gi-Oh if it got its tools back would be Dragon Link.

Colossus is the card that I'm most looking forward to using again in Master duel. Between Subterror, Nemesis and Thunder Dragon itself, there are just so many ways to get Colossus on field and its just such a strong auto win button for many decks
I've been playing an almost identical list to this in Master Duel so far and it's an absolute blast to play, provided the game doesn't immediately end when my opponent sees Konami's colossal purple mistake (love that phrase) hit the board.

Thunder Dragon was originally my plan for Master Duel but a few good pulls plus the (theoretical) inevitability of DPE made me go heroes instead. I hope to go back to Thunder Dragon eventually though, so I'm holding onto the Titan I pulled.

Deck is really funny to make a ton of plays with the near infinite TDrag engine, get hand trapped, and then slapping down an Aleister and watching people scoop

Nice list! Personally, I've been playing the build that uses a Lightsworn package to get access to Synchro 8s (specifically Chaos Ruler). Raiden is the main normal summon over Aloof. I'm hoping to get some better links to go into, but I hit Plat 1 with it last season. Thunder Dragons are still very potent in MD.
Chaos ruler does SO MUCH for the deck. I used to play it by playing assault mode package. The payoff was phenomenal, but I got extremely aggravated opening assault mode like 80% of the time, so I cut the engine entirely lol
@@shen.daniel Raiden has really good synergy with the baby chaos dragons, chaos valkyria, and danger mothman. Raiden + any of those on the field is a free Chaos Ruler.
Only weakness of this deck is how much of the cards are high rarity, but sometimes, that's just the price to pay.

Dunno if there's interest for it more than me, but can we get a Prank Kids + mini-Thunder Dragon engine? Either Dragondark or base Thunder Dragon, as a "slightly higher budget"
I mean, you already would play TD fusion in prank, and jamming in a random TD piece and a colossus in the extra probably wouldn't be too hard, and by the MBT standard, you now have a "Thunder Dragon" Prank Kid deck lmao
I used to play this same deck list then I got rid of all the chaos stuff and put in more hand traps and it's better now.
I always thought Thunder dragons would play batteryman solar too as a possible normal summon. or is it not good in that particular list? I use it in my TD deck and it works pretty well, especially with black or white dragon in hand too and it gives you an additional token for cross sheep plays for example
It used to be standard when hawk was still at 3. I still play one copy for the same reason as you gave, but most of the time lupine is a better normal summon, to me anyway

Firstly, you are committing a war crime not playing TD when you have both of the boss monsters in fricking royal rare. I envy you so much lmao
Secondly, the buster lock thing, it's utility is debatable. Obviously, the lock is incredibly powerful, but it also means you have a chance of opening the soft garnet, which never feels good. I personally don't play it, but it definitely worth a try.

It wasn't like the control and combo variants were both equally good, there was usually a correct option, just that nib and DRNM being introduced to the game made the control variants a lot better. So it went from combo with d link stuff being a lot better to the "pure" version of the deck doing more, especially after the agrapain ban, though the deck had largely fallen off the previous ban list.

Chaos creator is, from anything, very playable in chaos skull servant
Can recycle skull servant banish, bring back mezuki and prince, and is a "free" summon that can extend ur plays
My plat 1 deck this season. Droplet over Imperm and Nibiru over Ash ( Colossus already covers Ash’s most potent effect) and you’re all set. Free wins against Drytron cuz apparently Drytron players never run any effect negation (Imperm or Droplet) from my ladder experience.
I like the fact that you are playing a fun card instead of the 3x of a better card, but I just usually play a 41 cards deck in this case.

Gotta love the big purple dragon (no not the interplanetarypurplythorny dragon). This list is very similar to my own build. As a TD player, though link spamming in MD playing 60 card grass TD is hella fun, it's no matched to this original build jamming with tiny chaos package. The deck is so incredibly neat, and the satisfaction of slamming down colossus is unparalleled.
Also thank the f god that you are not playing the level 9 TD main deck monster. That card is garbage, and it pains me to see tons of new MD TD players are playing that card.
Also here's a hot take, one hawk is not as detrimental as many would think. The only noticeable difference is 0 battery man solar, which would have paired excellently with hawk. (I still play one copy because of incidental synergy with baby chaos dragons, but for most of the time lupine is a better NS)
Hawk is searchable via dark, which you are basically guaranteed to see after going through a typical TD combo, and you can recycle it with fusion, and then search it out next turn using the fusion. Funny enough, I think the roar hit probably affect more because it hurts the grind game of the deck. Because of colossus's limited status, outside of fusion, you'd have to use roar to recycle it, which is only viable for like a couple of turns.

@@johnathanlemus5584 I'm biased obviously, but sadly no. There are just too many decks that have great out for colossus. Eldlich can send colossus to grave, Shuraig can banish, VFD can stun the deck, and drytron just says NO to every other decks.
Hypothetically, if the deck were untouched, the deck would be stronger than ever for sure, but the aforementioned decks are still ready to discharge TD at anytime.
@@johnathanlemus5584 also, as much as I want to spam summon colossus, it's for the better for it to stay at 1. The card singlehandedly makes the decks competitively competent even at 1. That should tell you something about it

@@shen.daniel Colossus can stay at 1 for sure I’m talking about hits around the deck to prevent T1 status for the TCG. Master duel keeps it in check with Maxx c, Hawk at 1 and Roar at 2 so it isn’t as insane

I found myself bricking a lot going first with this build,(most times Drawing to many going second cards) sometimes you only have 1 play and It gets hand traped your turn ends.
The deck is a balance of TD and chaos engine, but it also means you need both engine present in your hand to combo off. Ideally you want to go first, so I'd suggest go easy on the going second cards
9 handtraps is way too much if you actually want to put up good turn 1 boards, everyone seems married to 3c 3ash in literally every single deck without second thought. Lot of hands are suboptimal playing so much bloat.
