    Another point to the Sonata: when in sport mode the gauges turn red, which of course, adds 50hp to any car that has it.

      In this particular case, the Hyundai honestly. The Hyundai 1.6t has been around longer than the Honda's engines and hasn't seen any issues. And the 100k mile warranty with 3 years of oil changes means more Sonatas might be better maintained.

      To be fair to Honda, the 1.5t oil dilution isn't that bad, is limited to short drives in very cold weather, and was mostly mitigated by software. It's more of a design quirk than a severe recall.

    Why are reliability and resale value not considered?

    • @DigitalYojimbo
      @DigitalYojimbo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hyundai might be better in reliability nowadays, Honda's of new just aren't the same. As for resale value, Hyundai is almost the same as honda, however the Hyundai is much cheaper up front especially with the discounts; meaning lower payments shorter loan period or you can just have more money for investments. Don't forget insurance; Honda's are typically the most expensive for "regular" cars.

    Which of them has better clutch feel?

  • @roguedogx
    @roguedogx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    before watching - I don't really put these two in the same competitive segment. the family sedan segment is so big I tend to split it in two based on whether the car is "utilitarian" or "driver focused".
    I also tend to split it because the "cross shoping" ratio is unusually low, these two buyers want fundamentally different things. The "utilitarian buyer" wants a good washing machine, something that will get them through their commute as comfortably as possible and be as little of a hassle otherwise. the Driver focused owner actually wants something that will excite them a little, they'd rather have a 3 series, or an alfa, but for whatever reason, they need a family sedan.
    I can forgive the comparison though because after looking it over I just realized that by the logic I laid out, the Accord hybrid doesn't have a competitor. the fusion is gone and the Mazda doesn't have a hybrid. So my guess is the Honda will be your prefered car, because it's better to drive, but in the Utilitarian segment the hyundai would be the one I'd have, if someone forced me to pick.

    • @roguedogx
      @roguedogx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      okay, I was wrong. but I maintain my "they don't really compete" mindset.
      as for sedans in the future, I got an interesting idea. a "top of the line" family sedan (honda accord, hyundai sonata, ect.) vs. a Nothing on it Sports sedan (bmw 3 series, Audi A4, Genesis G70, ect). asking the question "is the upgrade worth it?"

    In person, the sonata looks less striking than it does in pictures and videos. Sometimes I’m fooled into thinking it’s a fusion, but the side profile and rear end look amazing. The accord always breaks my neck however, while I just glance at the sonata in my rear view.
    The accord is a little over priced for what it offers, which bothers me a little. At least with the ex-l trim

    I don’t agree with your assessment and it is very biased, pretty evident from your tone. Although I do not own accord but it is a clear winner in my opinion. Your biggest review flaw came in the form of MPG assessment. In retro aspect I see tons of 90s accord on the road where as I see hardly 2010s on the road, this is clear sign of durability and reliability for accord. Quality of craftsmanship between two cars are miles apart. The most cheap material are found in Hyundai regardless of what model and that’s how they keep their cost down but sacrifice on longevity.

    I have the 2020 Accord Touring 2.0T and ❤️it. The Accord EX-L also has a driver attention monitor,rear cross traffic alert, road departure warning, collision mitigation breaking. Plus the Accord will hold its value better than the Hyundai. The Sonata is a gorgeous car and offers great value for the money with a great warranty. The Accord has a 40+ year reputation for being a fun to drive reliable sedan with over 15 million of them sold in the U.S., on Car and Drivers 10 best list 34 years in a row. Either way you’re presented with two great choices in a shrinking segment of the market.

  • @langlebl

    Sonata looks better in the hybrid and lower trims. The blacked out grille accentuates the catfish look. A chrome grille completely transforms the car. I think the Accord just looks OK. The whole design falls apart at the rear end for me. The rear looks hideous. I like the interior design on both cars, though.

    Our(Edmund's)2018 Honda Accord EX-L stickered for $30,865, including destination. Over the course of a year, we added 13,302 miles to our odometer. In this condition, the Edmunds TMV Calculator valued the Accord at $23,815 based on a private-party sale.
    That works out to 22.8% depreciation, which is slightly worse than the fleet average of 22% average. The depreciation level is even worse when you consider that the majority of our cars pass the 20,000-mile mark. Edmund's longterm Accord

    As a salesman I've sold both looks are subjective and think the Accord Sport looks better overall yes the Sonata is more striking but I think the Accord Sport is going to age better, sometimes less lines and creases and no fake vents is more.The base stereo system in the Sonata kills the accord and you can get a Bose System as a option that obliterates the accord in any trim even the top touring trim, you can also get a panoramic sunroof on the Sonata as well. The 1.5T litre engine with the CVT sucks on the Accord it's slow and makes a droning noise which is totally annoying so don't even bother with it. For right now the Accord has the advantage as far as power with the 2.0T litre engine so it's a hard choice but the options and tech you can get in the Sonata for a lower starting price is hard to beat. Plus the N-line Sonata is coming out later this year with 300hp, sport bucket seats and quad exhaust which the Accord cant compete with so if you like the Sonatas looks overall I agree I think it wins, because it just has more option's and a better warranty 👍

    Sonata is the better option. Why would any sane person pay an extra $3,000 to drive a car that has less standard features and an even smaller warranty? Lately the Honda has been having issues with their engines as well as any other manufacturer out there so the smart thing is to get the car with the better warranty for a peace of mind.
    Look at the depreciation value, an Accord is worth over $7,000 less within a year of ownership during resale when you consider that you overpayed when you bought it brand new then the logical thing is to save your money and buy the cheaper Sonata that doesn't look like any other generic car of the road.

      also the Honda should've won the fuel economy category, it has better economy who cares about the 2 mile range difference in the "volume" engines. Other than that i did n]love the video, awesome format, just don't agree with the conclusion

    Old honda was good, but the honda nowadays .. quality is low.
    Hyundai seems to try very hard to make a good car, on the other hand, Honda is lazy.
    It is only a matter of time just like how Samsung & LG pushed Sony away from the top of electronics.

    You’re comparing a brand new Hyundai with essentially a 3 year old Honda...

      Oh yes, let's wait 3 years to compare a brand new Honda to a 3 year old hyundai... 🙄 They compared to each other because that's what you can buy right now

    Accord and Sonata are not even on my list. Their reliability is still in question. Honda's are inconsistent and Hyundai's Sonata is still new in the market. So, no thanks. I would put my money on a Camry.

    • @kyron2092

      Kane Viva La Kane I don’t think you realize how much of a margin the accord has over the sonata in sales. I understand what you mean with Nissan but even the Altima outsells the sonata. In the 2019 the accord sold almost 300k units while Hyundai pushed out only around 88k. But I also understand that you’re looking at it from a future perspective but Honda is going to always keep that margin. I do agree that Honda definitely needs to give us more in certain areas. The accord lacks a panoramic moonroof, interior color options, and leather wrapped surfaces throughout the cabin. Those are my main issues with the accord and is where the sonata and new 2021 optima eats its lunch. The accord already out handles the sonata so with those improvements they can definitely manage to stay at the top with Toyota.

      @@kyron2092 totally agree! Honda is so superior. Their sales are booming. Hyundai is a cheap brand and will remain a cheap shitty brand. Honda and Nissan are pretty solid

    Can we toss the Ford Fusion in some comparisons since it still is being built for 2020? Seems like everyone forgot about it, but it is a really good sedan
