Great vid Found your channel because I need to replace my 10 year old thinkpad. Really impressed with the quality of your reviews, and their info on quality of life stuff like touchpad palm rejection and heat/noise
Just bought a yoga 7i 2 in 1 14” for my son which I was able to specify with the 2.8k oled display, the i7 ultra 155H & 32GB memory and 1 TB storage. This was the same spec as available ‘off the shelf’ on the 9i, but at £400 cheaper. It arrived two days ago, it feels very well built, I’m really impressed with the quality. The display is amazing. My son has reported that he used it for about 6hrs at college & still had 40% battery remaining. This was not taking any actions to conserve battery power, other than it being on the ‘balanced’ power setting. Oh, & the 7i 2 in 1 Intel based model at least also has one USB-A, and two USB-C’s I didn’t want to risk having apps not be supported, so went for Intel model.
@ehtasam2080 I would have ordered it instantly but it is available as 16 inch only. And I must admit that I would like to see independent tests first. I have a 14" Book4 Edge and the battery life is just great, the performance is great and there is no fan noise. Maybe Intel can surprise us this time.

There's another unspoken downside to this one, and that's just the fac t it's a Lenovo, which means you're basically beholden to Lenovo's occasionally lackadaisical approach to software support. Qualcomm have been releasing newer graphics drivers and system software stuff for the last couple of months. The surface, for example, has a considerably newer graphics driver. The laptop may be great, but for me - and, in my opinion, for a very significant chunk of laptop users - an ARM-based CPU means it's currently a no-go. Sure, most of us use, for most of the time, programs that can run on ARM. But... What about the times in which we use less common programs? I use quite a bit of those for work, for instance. @ZiggyMercury Same here. I use Linux, and ARM, specifically these new Qualcomm chips, are currently not fully working yet on Linux. They may as well not exist yet.
The power button on the right side is only an issue for testers. Anyone who owns such a laptop would do the mistake maybe 3 or 4 times. After that it becomes part of the muscle memory and a non-issue. Regarding the touchpad: who still haven’t learnt how to use a touchpad without pressing the physical button, should not complain but simply learn how to use it. I use it for programming in C# (Visual Studio), Python and Go (VS Code), I also use Docker, etc. All my tools have a native version, although you sometimes have to scroll way down the download page to find the ARM64 installer. I got the 32GB version, which handles all my tasks and my 459 chrome tabs like a charm, never hear the fan. I also do some light gaming (puzzle games) without any issue. The compatibility with app, notably with games using an anti cheat software, is the software editor's fault. Also, I think you forgot to mention it's still one of the rare laptop to provide wifi 7, which is a game changer in terms of download speed. It's a shame many reviews make it look like it's just an expensive Chromebook, because it's not.
Probably in my opinion as a conclusion, Snapdragon X laptops are suited for small tasks like business and internet browsing, not recommended for heavy tasks like gaming and rendering. But since this is the 1st Snapdragon X, probably they are still innovating, like comparing 1st Snapdragon laptop ARM chip against Apple M3/M4 would be a little unfair since Apple have more experience on making ARM chips.
All cute and adorable but srsly the lack of optimization for the arm on windows is the big thing here but long term this is the right direction it pushes the entire industry forward, looking forward to the slim 7i with lunar lake heard the battery lasts 24 hours but only downside so far with that is the old trackpad common they need the haptic trackpads once and for all and they just did it on the thinkbook at ifa its a matter of time luckily but not the aura edition sadly
The single major drawback for me was the keyboard. I own an older Legion and a M2 Macbook air - the keyboard on this Yoga Slim 7 is horrible and feels cheap. The backlighting is very strong, bleeds light and blinds you at night
I'm looking for a laptop that works well with Debian for web development and programming. There aren't many laptops that are fully compatible with Linux, and while debain can run on various models, they often require additional setup or dont work out of the box.
I appreciate that the Slim 7x has the best multithreaded performance but the other models with the higher end chip have dual cost boost and higher single core performance. That matters for people whose use cases are mostly single threaded like web / node developers.
About lack of Audio Jack: Maybe you can use USB Sound Card, like I did currently (while in fact it was purchased in 2018). It maybe make it not clean look but that's the solution I can give About Power Button: Maybe you can customise it on Control Panel (Power Options) and set for both on battery and plugged in "do nothing" 🤭😅
@@adinnugroho6544 Still, Apple, _the company that made doing so on phones and tablets popular,_ hasn't done it on any Mac. That's because on a laptop, it is important to have it for audio engineers and video editors.

The same goes for me. My Pixelbook Go shows its age, and I want a primary, quality browser-orientated device. There is not much in the Chromebook market; they have mostly gone cheap and cheerful. I expect that X Elite is the premium Chromebook alternative as it is unsuitable for GPU-intensive work and has compatibility issues with some software. With thousands of returns and sales nose-diving despite the paid-for hype, they can now be found cheaply on the secondhand market. I bagged a week-old HP Omnibook for half price, and although arguably the worst of the bunch, I can live with that at £600.
@andyH_England Did you try an old ThinkPad. Somehow, I got a rare T470 25th Anniversary edition (the second to last model with an externally removable battery), and apart from the use of a barrel jack, 16 : 9 screen, and weak iGPU on the 7th gen Intel CPU used, it's actually surprisingly good. (It can't officially run Windows 11 because of the CPU even though it does have a TPM 2.0, but I don't run Windows on it, so I don't really care.)

@@andyH_England Yeah, I unsubscribed from that channel a few months into this year. Eber really doesn't understand his audience and it was getting ridiculous. Eventually, I had enough and unsubscribed.

It used to be that way, until somebody in upper management felt the need to justify their presence and decided to confuse everybody by turning the well-known Yoga moniker into a meaningless variable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I wish we had a battery life comparison to the SL 7 15" instead of the 13". That said, I have yet to make sense of the trackpad non-issue. Why on earth would you click to click when you can just lightly tap to click? Are there still Neanderthals out there in a secluded valley that just can't manage to make light, deliberate movements with their appendages? 🧐 What laptop manufacturers really should do is glue it to the bottom so it won't even move, instead of wasting valuable space inside that could be used for meaningful internals. Just seeing a MacBook's internals makes me cringe every time I see how much battery space is lost due to that solution in search of a problem. By only offering tap to click, they could gently nudge their remaining customers from the Pleistocene to using current day tools as intended.
Most people prefer to click, and having the option is a significant advantage. Using these diving board keyboards, you’re forced to touch to click, which is akin to the excuse Galaxy Fold fans use: it compels you to use the inner display! Considering that these PCs cost over $1200, I want the choice. Apple comprehends this, which is why most Windows-quality OEMs are finally transitioning to haptic touchpads. And none of them will upset their customers by forcing them to touch-to-click.
100% agree. It is an absolut non-issue and a question of muscle memory. "Tap" for "single click", "double tap and hold" for "click and hold" (for drag and drop), "double touch" for "right click". Simply effortless and "no click noise". After one day using it, it will work in 100% of cases. As I said, just a matter of muscle memory.
@andyH_England Not all haptic touchpads are good. Take Dell's recent XPS models. Those have touchpads that rival budget gaming laptops as the worst touchpads I've used in a LOOOONG time. Apple had it nailed down since 2015. Even HP has good ones this year on their Spectre laptops. (I haven't tried the Surface options yet.)

Can I play demanding games in ultra/high settings for the next 3 years?
Yes, that is a beast of a laptop.
That should carry you for like 5 years, let alone 3.
Hey, thanks for the content.
Which laptop do you recommend for programming and gaming needs (the best one) ?
I agree. Wait till you see Lunar Lake next week
I've subscribed
Great video😀
Thanks
Sierra deserves right of reply
« Sierra found the trackpad fine, she is wrong » 😂😂
are you ever gonna do a full review of the snapdragon x elite and 2nd gen core ultra XPS 13?
About lack of Audio Jack: Maybe you can use USB Sound Card, like I did currently (while in fact it was purchased in 2018). It maybe make it not clean look but that's the solution I can give
About Power Button: Maybe you can customise it on Control Panel (Power Options) and set for both on battery and plugged in "do nothing" 🤭😅
@@adinnugroho6544 Still, Apple, _the company that made doing so on phones and tablets popular,_ hasn't done it on any Mac.
That's because on a laptop, it is important to have it for audio engineers and video editors.
Hey im stuck between this and the ASUS Zenbook 14 UX3405MA Ultra 7. What would you recommend. I dont really game heavy.
What about screen reflections?
Do you think the problem with the DJ program recordbox will be solved on all snapdragon devices within the next updates?
I wish these had Linux support. Probably needs another year
@@grinsk3ks Yeah, that would probably be killer. Unfortunately, the only ARM device I own right now is a Raspberry Pi 5, because it actually has Linux support.
what is the laptop shown at 4:51 ?
is it the Asus ProArt PX 13?
First. I wish they would make the same laptop but only with new lunar lake or ryzen 9 ai chips and hdmi port
All yogas have apoeer button that breaks easily and is hard to repair. Dont get any expensive models
Love lenovo because there actually doing something ❤
There IS heat you feel dude. I sent mine back a couple of months ago.
Hopefully 2nd gen ARM on Windows laptops brings better graphics performance. If not Lunar Lake or AMD is still way to go.
I thought this review was about the 7i AURA edition. I'm more interested in that. Snapdragon kinda short lived due to Lunar Lake. yikes!
That is under embargo till Tuesday am! We have a monsterous video coming then
@@JustJoshTechCan’t wait! 😍
Yeah Intel always on their promises.
Please do thinkpad t14 S with snapdragon
Is there an ARM-compatible version of Parallels??
do you know that the black surface laptop never get glossy keyboard? that that highlight of the surface's product with black color xD. This is unverified information so i hope that you can verify that for me.
Will it be possible to play LOL in the future in this laptop having snapdragon or is it just not possible?
Would give both kidneys for the review if the Yoga Slim 7i Aura
Looking for a laptop for only light use within browsers and website that is premium. I think this may be the one!
Hey Josh, can you pleaseeeee cover the burn in situation on Linux as well?
I want to buy one of the Oled Laptops but I'm worried I'll have burn-in on Linux and that the styles wouldn't work
@@chinmaysinghal8997 Linux actually is better with different RGB subpixel layouts than Windows. And HDR support is almost ready.
Bruh can't wait to watch your reviews on intel lunar lake devices
Dang josh is crazy
Any time i need to recommend a laptop to a friend or family, i always pop over to your channel and site, best on the platform for sure!
If you compare this to zenbook 14 core ultra 7 models và dell inspiration plus 14 7441 and this buddy who would be better
If you can't game on a windows machine and the app compatibility is not the best why not just get a MacBook instead
100% agreed, well said. For some those things aren't that important btw ... as in their apps work
Why should you if you don't like Mac OS and an ugly notch?
I'm still so stuck with this laptop and the surface 7 (x plus) , I want a laptop that will last me for many years! I love the Lenovo OLED but the lack of headphone jack really stinks! i have a MacBook pro m3 pro but I feel like I don't use it to its full potential as I do not video edit and do not do heavy tasks. Please help. I would like a really long battery life. I would use mostly for school google meet video calls and assignments. I'm hearing mixed reviews with battery life between the yoga slim 7x and the surface 7.
I think you are crazy to give up the M3 Pro for either of these. You will definitely regret it
@@JustJoshTech I know, macs are really great no issues, just thinking of selling it and to make the switch over to windows. I love that they offer touch screens on their laptops! However still on the fence.
What is the light weight laptop that can do fairly bit ot gamint and coding? I imagine it has to be a laptop not using snapdragon processor
ASUS G14?
5:39 got me
Edit: 6:04 got me as well
Can you review the new Asus Vivobook S16 with the HX370?
I mean, oled burning is just a lottery. You don't know when that will happen to your laptop. Also, it gets hot. But hey, that's another feature that will bring you to the manufacturer's website to buy a new one faster than necessary. So, both sides are happy, i guess
Yeah, i would only buy a MiniLED laptop.
No headphone jack is huge deal breaker on a laptop
Is this laptop can work base level photo editing
Josh, Can you please do a comparison with yoga pro 7x (2024) . Thanks
I am trying so so so so so hard to get it in. Its not sold in the USA
Darn it. You lost me at no headphone jack. I'm gonna stick to my second hand ThinkPad T570.
please review to Yoga Pro 7i Gen 9 (14" Intel) with RTX!!!
I don't understand people buying a laptop for more than $1k just to browse and shit.
Go buy a 400-500$ Laptop that will perform absolutely perfect
At 400 dollars, you're just getting a shit laptop, lol.
You don't know tech, do you? So shut up and never cook again
Yeah, is basically just an expensive Chromebook...
Are US prices this bad? I got my i5 12500h Lenovo Laptop for $446.
I could have gotten a Ryzen 7th Gen Lenovo for $413.
And yes, Brand new and in europe
It is a choice; people can do what they want with their own money.
no mention of lunar lake?
It is under embargo till Tuesday. We will talk about it then
Does anyone really care about laptop speakers when they’re buying? Who plays music through their laptop speakers?
Lunar Lake launching tomorrow will destroy this laptop completely.
Not at all. Tomorrow's video is very favorable to Lunar Lake but we have one coming out next week that compares the Slim 7x to the Aura it's Lunar Lake counterpart. And it actually does very well when you look at the laptop as a whole
Intel is so scared of the X Elite so Lunar Lake sacrified its cores to sip battery. You have to buy the chonky Arrow Lake HX to process heavy tasks.
Please, make video on Lenovo yoga 7i aura edition.
I associate yoga with hinge problems
is this sponcon?
Do xps 13 next!!!
does it support windows hello?
Yes. I have one and it works perfectly.
Hardware Canucks begs to differ on their video titled
"I Used a CoPilot+ PC for 30 Days...So you Don't Have To" which uses The Yoga Slim 7x too
Most of his “reviews” were essentially sponsored advertisements, which amounted to 10-minute ads. Consequently, I refrained from watching this particular one, as I have made a conscious effort to avoid his series of sponsored content.
@@andyH_England Yeah, I unsubscribed from that channel a few months into this year. Eber really doesn't understand his audience and it was getting ridiculous. Eventually, I had enough and unsubscribed.
@@cameronbosch1213 I might end up doing that, as the last handful of videos were so obviously sponsored that I couldn't get past a few minutes without choking on my food. He doesn't even do it subtly or with any pazazz.

I wouldn't go that far. I'd say Aura Edition cones a little closer
Bish pls josh, lunar lake is out these laptops are no use noww
For some, Lunar Lake is a clear choice. But you may be surprised when the reviews are out on Tuesday
@@JustJoshTech I can't imagine a case where someone would prefer Windows on Arm. Maybe they are getting cheaper?
Isnt Yoga stood for 2 in 1 ?
The US branding is a little confusing and mixed.
It used to be that way, until somebody in upper management felt the need to justify their presence and decided to confuse everybody by turning the well-known Yoga moniker into a meaningless variable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
yoga stands for hinge failures.
@@berk6123 Until this year, yes. This year, they made it a higher end designation, like it had been for a few years outside the U.S.

Man, USB A is old tech, we now use USB C.
How Linux works on it soon
Lunar lake looking good
Does anaconda run on Qualcomm?
Sounds like advertising
You can't be for real. I just spent around 50% of the video talking about the negatives of it.
What laptop manufacturers really should do is glue it to the bottom so it won't even move, instead of wasting valuable space inside that could be used for meaningful internals.
(I haven't tried the Surface options yet.)
yuh
Good luck selling Qualcomm laptops for a while
