Seriously though, I remember my first splatfest (Autobots v Decepticons) as it happened two days after I got the game in August of 2015, after that I absolutely fell in love with the game. I remember playing in this splatfest, I was team Callie, hearing Calamari Inkantation in the actual battles was amazing to me. Those are some of my most cherished memories with this franchise

Splatoon 3 - Team Past won, but there are two possible scenarios: A prequel to the events of the first Splatoon where the world is destroyed and marine life evolves, or there’s time travel involving said events.
@@CarbyGuuGuu id bet money on the former happening, but hey you never know. the only thing with a prequel is if they stay true to the time period, then alot of the weapons from 2 and 3 wouldnt be in splat4 in theory.. leading way to alot of new weapons mainly from the past. I do hope the theme and story is good sure, but more than anything that the online /netcode is better for next game 😅.

I chose marie.. I believe callie vs marie was the only splatfest in splat 1 that i participated in.. but I don't think i did any battles or anything during it because again.. i didnt know what splatfest was.. So seeing this after we lost the online services.. is beautiful.
As someone who doesn't like turf war, i Will admit splatoon 1's splatfests had a special feel to them.. especially this one. Even splatoon 2's splatfests werent bad due to the shifty stations. Never got this same vibe from the splatoon 3's splatfests.

Splatoon 3 has very high competition to beat the OG splatoon OST. Also a good splatfest idea in my opinion later on in splat 3 should be splatoon 1 vs splatoon 2 vs splatoon 3

God I wish I actually played the splatfests as a kid, I was too young to know they even existed for the first two games. I least I got to experience the Grand Festival.
It’s funny to think all of this began not too long ago, man 2015 feels like it was just yesterday… from the Final Splatfest, to the Grand Fest, each one getting bigger and more elaborate than the last… it’s still a shame Splatoon 2 never got an update with the Off The Hook Amiibo that would allow us to revisit the old Splatfest events, especially the Final Fest. Don’t get me wrong, Grand Fest was amazing and definitely had a lot more love and attention put into it compared to everything else. But the Final Fest was a kind of hype you just had to be there to understand. Grand Fest had the venue, it had the characters, but it lacked the urgency Final Fest had. Maybe due to the time limit, maybe because there were more than two choices, maybe it had something to do with the question being asked and the choices given. Or maybe it’s just due to the trailer hyping the event up, I love the Grand Fest trailer, it definitely feels like the culmination of everything so far. But the Final Fest trailer had an orchestra, it had the luxury of being shown live after the Splatoon 2 World Championships 2019, presented by Nogami himself. And it had the even more important timing of following up on Octo Expansion, that DLC did wonders for the series and it’s world. Now people cared a lot more about the world and the lore than they did before, and here we’re being asked to determine it’s fate? No wonder it felt so climactic. Now comparing that to Splatoon 3, it kind of feels like S3 was robbed of a lot of that. Side Order wasn’t the same kind of character and world building story that Octo Expansion was, the announcement was done through Social Media, and while it’s obvious a lot more work went into the Grand Fest, it just lacked that timing the Final Fest had. And while the choices for the teams were very interesting, it seems to me a lot of people completely misunderstood the question being asked. This wasn’t about the world like the Final Fest was, it wasn’t about what time period you preferred. The question was “Which is most important to you?” And it was clarified through the announcement dialogue in the Splat Cast that this was about personal belief. For example, Marina chose present because she wants to live in the now, not worrying about the future, and she could take or leave her past. It’s about what you find important in yourself, do you value your past, the events, meetings, losses, and so many other emotions you’ve experienced in life thus far. Do you value that more than the present or your potential future? Or do you prefer to ignore your past, live in the now, and not worry yourself over what may or may not happen in the future? Or do you choose to live in the future, always planning ahead, the present is just a means to an end, and your goals and dreams are what push you forward? It wasn’t about the world, it was an introspective question, asking you what do you value most in yourself and others? Which is more important? For example, I chose Team Present, for many of the same reasons Marina gave, I’d rather live in the now working to ensure me and those I love are happy and safe. I don’t really care about the past all that much, what’s done is done, dwelling on it and living in the nostalgia is only going to make your life miserable in comparison. And while I do plan ahead and try to work towards a better future, there is no reason for me to worry about what might happen, when I could work in the moment to ensure it never happens at all. Sometimes it’s nice to daydream about what might be, what potential lies in the future, from technological advancements, to even something simple like a potential new game release, something like Splatoon 4 or Sonic Adventure 3 to give an example. I’d much rather enjoy what I have, and relish in these moments because someday these small things will be a foggy memory. It was always about introspection, so since Past won Splatoon 4 will likely be a game about past nostalgia and the dangers of living in the past for the story mode. Though as confirmed in an interview with the team behind the games, Splatoon 3 is the end of the trilogy, this is the end for these characters filling the roles they have for as long as they have. We won’t be with the New Squidbeak Splatoon anymore, it’s not that these characters won’t be around, they just won’t be as important or fill the same roles they used to. We likely won’t be playing as a new agent, but they weren’t exactly clear on what this being the end of the New Squidbeak Splatoon’s story meant. Only time will tell I suppose.

Modern Splatoon objectively has better graphics but something about the way the ink looks here is a vibe, it’s a lot brighter.
I prefer the look of the old ink. Some of the ui ability effects and ink effects were nice too but new games do a lot nice too

God I wish I actually played the splatfests as a kid, I was too young to know they even existed for the first two games. I least I got to experience the Grand Festival.

It’s funny to think all of this began not too long ago, man 2015 feels like it was just yesterday… from the Final Splatfest, to the Grand Fest, each one getting bigger and more elaborate than the last… it’s still a shame Splatoon 2 never got an update with the Off The Hook Amiibo that would allow us to revisit the old Splatfest events, especially the Final Fest.
Don’t get me wrong, Grand Fest was amazing and definitely had a lot more love and attention put into it compared to everything else. But the Final Fest was a kind of hype you just had to be there to understand.
Grand Fest had the venue, it had the characters, but it lacked the urgency Final Fest had. Maybe due to the time limit, maybe because there were more than two choices, maybe it had something to do with the question being asked and the choices given.
Or maybe it’s just due to the trailer hyping the event up, I love the Grand Fest trailer, it definitely feels like the culmination of everything so far. But the Final Fest trailer had an orchestra, it had the luxury of being shown live after the Splatoon 2 World Championships 2019, presented by Nogami himself. And it had the even more important timing of following up on Octo Expansion, that DLC did wonders for the series and it’s world. Now people cared a lot more about the world and the lore than they did before, and here we’re being asked to determine it’s fate? No wonder it felt so climactic.
Now comparing that to Splatoon 3, it kind of feels like S3 was robbed of a lot of that. Side Order wasn’t the same kind of character and world building story that Octo Expansion was, the announcement was done through Social Media, and while it’s obvious a lot more work went into the Grand Fest, it just lacked that timing the Final Fest had. And while the choices for the teams were very interesting, it seems to me a lot of people completely misunderstood the question being asked. This wasn’t about the world like the Final Fest was, it wasn’t about what time period you preferred. The question was “Which is most important to you?” And it was clarified through the announcement dialogue in the Splat Cast that this was about personal belief. For example, Marina chose present because she wants to live in the now, not worrying about the future, and she could take or leave her past.
It’s about what you find important in yourself, do you value your past, the events, meetings, losses, and so many other emotions you’ve experienced in life thus far. Do you value that more than the present or your potential future?
Or do you prefer to ignore your past, live in the now, and not worry yourself over what may or may not happen in the future?
Or do you choose to live in the future, always planning ahead, the present is just a means to an end, and your goals and dreams are what push you forward?
It wasn’t about the world, it was an introspective question, asking you what do you value most in yourself and others? Which is more important?
For example, I chose Team Present, for many of the same reasons Marina gave, I’d rather live in the now working to ensure me and those I love are happy and safe. I don’t really care about the past all that much, what’s done is done, dwelling on it and living in the nostalgia is only going to make your life miserable in comparison. And while I do plan ahead and try to work towards a better future, there is no reason for me to worry about what might happen, when I could work in the moment to ensure it never happens at all. Sometimes it’s nice to daydream about what might be, what potential lies in the future, from technological advancements, to even something simple like a potential new game release, something like Splatoon 4 or Sonic Adventure 3 to give an example. I’d much rather enjoy what I have, and relish in these moments because someday these small things will be a foggy memory.
It was always about introspection, so since Past won Splatoon 4 will likely be a game about past nostalgia and the dangers of living in the past for the story mode. Though as confirmed in an interview with the team behind the games, Splatoon 3 is the end of the trilogy, this is the end for these characters filling the roles they have for as long as they have. We won’t be with the New Squidbeak Splatoon anymore, it’s not that these characters won’t be around, they just won’t be as important or fill the same roles they used to.
We likely won’t be playing as a new agent, but they weren’t exactly clear on what this being the end of the New Squidbeak Splatoon’s story meant. Only time will tell I suppose.
