At 5:29, the LED flicker is usually caused by Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) to implement light dimmable feature. PWM is used because LED technology doesn't usually have a wide voltage range for fully smooth dimming effect. Example: 50% brightness would be 50% of time completely off then 50% completely on switched hundreds of times per second. If PWM is performed at too slow of a frequency (less than 120Hz or so), then the human eye may detect flicker. But PWM is guaranteed to work on all LED chips and can be software controlled with a cheap MOSFET transistor. However, cameras may detect flicker at even higher PWM frequencies depending on shutter speed. PWM dimmable LED should not be used for video studios.
Question regarding mirror operation-If you set the mirror and turn off with a separate wall switch will it come on to past setting or will you always have to turn mirror on?
Yes, if the wire behind the mirror is connected to the light switch. Often when rooms are wired this way, the outlets will lose power when the light switch is turned off.
I just ordered one. Theres an outlet right underneath where the mirror would go. If I want to hardwire would I just make a hole for the wires to go drop down to the outlet and just tap into the outlet wires?
your video seemed most helpful. my mirror came the same way it appears, pinkish red wire and blue wire. no ground. I just tore out the drywall to put in a box behind where the mirror will go. do i just hardwire it into the power OUT of the switch?
Could you technically convert the mirror to a plug in? Wanting one of these for my Hair and Makeup room in my film studio and I don't wanna hard wire it.
I recently bought an LED mirror and the light shuts off by itself after a few minutes. The touch power button and defrost button. Stay lit though. Is this normal?
So like, there’s gonna be no light switch for the room? I don’t get it kinda. Lol you said there’s gonna be no light switch, but the mirror will always be on. Hm. Lol
constant power goes to the mirror. LED switches are on the mirror (the blue light/the dimmer control) and because it's LED it draws next to nothing in the amount of amps
@@housestuff That was one of the things I was concerned about. When you said that you were replacing the old switch with an outlet and wiring the mirror direct, I thought that touching the mirror every time you wanted to turn it on was going to get old real quick. Glad to hear that you switched the power after all. Good call!
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?I bought one that has a plug-in And once I did that it came on but no smart button located anywhere on the mirror to control it or shut it off.. are the ones with plug-ins designed to just plug into regular outlets?
awesome job explaining this as i am about to buy one of these. my electrical/vanity light is above the mirror. what is your source of light (other than the window)? is it the potlights? i wonder if the vanity light above his kind of mirror would work with these mirrors?
If you're doing an led strip, you want to look into getting the ones where the led diodes are really close to each other and bright. Then you want to add a diffusion layer on top of them. if you look on amazon for "led strip diffuser" you should find quite a bit of them
@@housestuff thank you and you see how the mirror has that white thing surrounded well my mirror has that but also has my girlfriends name and two birds carved in the mirror
If you hang it vertical how do you change the orientation of the control buttons? It would look weird vertical with the control button icons sideways in middle of mirror
How does the electrical code address the semi-exposed connection behind the mirror? There is no faceplate on the junction box so it wouldn't pass the code under normal circumstances, but is having the mirror hanging in front of it enough to satisfy code requirement? I've installed mine the same way you did in this video, but worried about it passing inspection when I sell my home.
Man you're speaking french to me. I am not super read up on codes, but I'm pretty sure they installed like a pass through plate in front of it after we filmed. We were just demonstrating the install for the video
Found your video hoping it would explain more about the electrical hook up. The wire coming off my mirror has a pinkish orange wire tagged with the letter "L" and a light blue write tagged with the letter "N". I'm assuming N is for neutral but I don't know what the L stands for. I'm afraid to hook it up to power backwards. I need to know which one is hot and which one is neutral. Any help?
@@michaelmoore269 I went through four years of electrical training but I've never seen pink and light blue wires used in 110/120 volt before. Lol Thanks for your help

Phenomenal explanation. This helps explain the flickering with any led lights I seen on videos

How come you don’t need ground?? I have a very similar if not the same brand and it only has two and I’m concerned with wet areas with no ground?
Mine is a plug in. And I think we're going to have to install a recessed receptacle.
Yea they make recessed ones I've seen at home depot that kind of slant out so it might be better for fitting the plug inside
What brand is this?
There’s no brand, just a generic from china

how much did you spend on getting the outlet move down and overall to install it?
I'm not sure the exact dollar amount, they were contracted at a daily rate for a long period of time.
Ours didn’t come with those brackets on the back 😮 just 2 white ones that we’re supposed to install but they look hella small lol
How’re you satisfied with the mirror after several years of use?🤔
still works great!
You should of used a single gang cover with center KO and 2 screw connector for the cord. Leaving it open like that is a code violation..
