Crazy how they pretty much got their predictions spot on, I wasn’t deeping it too much when I watched so the revaluations blew me next episode
I like that they do try to mentally engage with discussion beyond a reaction, even if theories are completely off basis. It's just nice to see the attempt to piece things together.
Idk why they chose to call them foster siblings, but in the manga Ah-Duo and the emperor are referred to as "milk siblings". Ah-Duo's mother was the emperor's wetnurse, so the two of them grew up close. Also, we do know what the previous empress (current emperor's mother, current empress dowager) looks like. She was at the garden party, sitting next to the emperor and holding Gyokuyo's baby.
Translation is in many ways not accurate
@@fankymonk8868 In some ways fan translations used to be more accurate, I've seen it with Korean dramas as well. Plus a lot of the quirks of language and culture that could be kept in aren't anymore. A lot of animes don't show anymore if someone calls another character with honorifics like san, sama etc. Some just straight up don't even show that someone is being called a sempai or kouhai. And they write the names flipped in the translation even though the audio is the other way around. K dramas are worse, a character will be calling another Hyung (older brother) which shows how close they are but the translation will just show them calling the other by their name.
@@katara2021 Agree. It is a pity that due to the inaccuracies of translation or the lack of understanding of what is translated, the atmosphere of the work is lost and the narrative suffers. Especially in such works, where emphasis is placed on dialogue and description of what is happening through the character’s internal dialogue. Problem is the Word and it's regional connotation.
There is no concept of Milk Siblings in the West even though there is concept of Wet-Nurse.
So, they probably chose the closest English meaning to the concept, instead of going for the perceived meaning of the words.

For the discussion and anyone else who's a little confused. The current emperor had a baby with ahu at the same time that his father (the previous emperor) had a baby with his main concubine. So the emperor had a half brother and a son on the same night and it's elaborated on in the next episode.
Wrong. They said that the previous emperor had a son with the empress dowager which is previous emperor wife. Previous emperor and empress dowager are the biological parents of the actual emperor which means that the son they later had is the actual emperor brother not half-brother.
The Empress dowager had the emperor when she is 10 years old and have her second son when she is about 30 years old

@@sh4dowbl4ck26 That was a subs mistake. Its more clear in the manga. They use "empress dowager" by mistake, because thats what they keep calling her currently, now that the previous emperor is dead and she actually is the empress dowager now.
The previous emperor had a son with the empress on the same day as the current emperor(Then prince) had a son with his concubine. So, the current emperor had a son and a little brother on the same day.

Honestly, I prefer the term 'milk siblings' from manga rather then 'foster siblings' to explain initial Ah-Duo and Current Emperor relationship, while essentially both had the same meaning, but each term had different context.

The current emperor and ah-duo had a kid back in the day. This kid, maomao said, already passed. Thats baby 1
Baby 1 was born at the same the previous emperor and empress had their baby. This is baby 2
Baby 2 would be the current emperor's little brother.

Yeah, lots of studies show people are getting more allergies as times go on and the best hypothesis is that with better Medicine lots of folk’s that wouldn’t have survived ended up passing their genes to the next generation.
Lishu is not necessary allergic to honey, it is possible. It is also possible she is scared of it, since it almot killed her as a baby.

I think this is the longest discussion they had in all of their reactions, this shows how great and interesting this anime series is!!
they "air" the book out and expose it to the sun for at least 30 minutes to make sure they don't smell musty and to make sure the pages doesn't turn yellow... this is one way to handle your books better
Exposing books to sun makes them turn yellow, but it prevents mildew.

3:45 There was nothing wrong with the drink, Maomao saw her discomfort and gave her an out. This is actually one of my favorite scenes to date because it shows cases both Maomao’s and GyouKyu’s situational awareness, politeness, trust and respect in less than a minute. Maomao susses out the that the tea is a problem, does subtle but extra movement to alert Gyoukyu that there’s a problem but that it’s not food poisoning, which she’s immediately catches then pivots to say the tea is not up to standard saving her guess from embarrassment without knowing any of the details but trusting Maomao enough to know it was necessary.
From what I gathered and experience from watching K-drama. Jinshi might be in the position of emperor's brother, hence emperor's brother never go outside because he fake his identity as eunuch. And he actually lady Ah-duo's son but somehow got swapped with Empress doweger.

I’ll try to clear things up a little bit for you guys. First of all the empress dowager is the wife of the previous emperor and the mother of the current emperor. In this ep it is said that the “current emperor who is the previous emperor and the empress dowager first son” when he was still a prince cause his father “previous emperor” was in charge, he had a son with concubine Ah Duo (which we know she is 35 now) all of this happened 17 years ago so they were both young at the time. Exactly at the same time together with the “current emperor and Ah Duo” the “previous emperor and empress dowager” had a second son. Now previous emperor and empress dowager second son is the younger brother of the current emperor. Meanwhile current emperor and Ah Duo son it has been said that died.
About the fact that said that the current emperor and concubine Ah Duo are foster siblings is actually wrong, translation issue, them two are actually milk siblings cause they got nursed by the same woman when they were babies.

At those time everyone should do something strictly according to their station, so literally Jinshi as an Euneuch shouldn't situated himself in the Emperor brother's place as it was not up to his station... books will soak up moisture and rot/mold if they aren't aired out periodically. It's not as much a problem now since we have ways of dehumidifying, but can be an issue if an area where books are stored becomes too humid for prolonged periods. Also have to do it if you get flooded, as normal dehumidifying might not be fast enough.
Firstly, you have seen the Empress. She was holding the baby at the garden party. The baby would be her grandchild, which is why she's holding and playing with it. Secondly, you guys are way over thinking this, I know it's a bit confusing. The Empress and Lady Ah-Duo were pregnant at the same time. The Empress' child survived while Lady Ah-Duo's child died in infancy. The rest will be explained later.
You have to be specifics with the terms in this Series.
It isn't Empress, it's "Empress Dowager".
Reason we have to be specific is because of future plot.

The Old Emperor and the Empress Dowager had 2 children - 1 baby(identity unknown) and 1 Prince (Current Emperor)
The Current Emperor(Who was Prince at the time) and Concubine Ah Dou had a baby - Child is allegedly dead
Ah Dou grew up in the palace along side the Prince (Current emperor) which makes them Foster Siblings (Kinda like Theon from GoT grew up with the Stark Children)

So what the anime said and meant is the Current emperor deceased son and little brother(alive) were born around the same date and time. According to the records in the library, the son the current emperor(back when he was still a prince status) had with Concubine Ah Duo is no longer alive while the current little brother is alive but health condition is weak.

ive watched through all current episodes at the moment and ive come to conclusion that jinshi is the emporers son from ah duo and that he was switched at birth with the emporers brother since empress dowager had a child at the same time
jinshi was raised as the emporers brother but he was actually his son and rightful heir to the throne
Lishu's not that hard to understand. She's just one of those people that's allergic to everything. In this case, she's allergic to honey, which Maomao picked up on since she already knew she was allergic to fish.
Also the confusion y'all are having is stemming from the fact that there are two babies. The emperor's son and his little brother were born at around the same time. One of them died, the emperor's son. Maomao's dad was the doctor during this time period.
The current Emperor's son with Concubine died (Not the former emperor) just for clarification.
He's lost a lot of children (hence the first episode people saying he's cursed)
okay here’s some explanation to anyone who’s confused:
1) the (current) emperor and ah-duo are not foster siblings. her mother was his wet nurse, so technically they’re milk-siblings, that’s all.
2) jinshi does look like ah-duo, and also like the dowager empress (she was shown in the garden party ep, she had purple hair and eyes too)
3) 17 years ago, the dowager empress gave birth to her and the previous emperor 2nd son. on that same night ah-dou gave birth to her son with the prince (current emperor) and maomao’s dad was the doctor that delivered both.
4) ah-duo’s son died soon after, and the 2nd son prince survived but he’s now very sickly.
so jinshi like roshi said could be either the current emperor’s brother or his son (if the babies were swapped 17 years ago).
Amazing reactions as always, this is my first time watching it and it’s great that it’s along side you guys. And I have a theory about who the baby might be, I think that it’s ma-mow because in the one episode where she went to her dads house that he said what a twist of fate that she went to the palace or something like that and he was the baby deliverer at the time, 17 years ago and she so happens to be 17 as meantioned from the male tester she sent to the archives for more information; so what if she could be a twin of jin and they decided to hide her for fear of the balance of power?

The current emperor could NOT have been the previous emperor foster kid tho. Bcs then, even if he married the emperor's daughter, he would still never be the next emperor. It would simply go to another son or the former emperor younger sibling. They were probably milk siblings. Which, still, it was a little frowned upon marrying ur milk sibling, but still nothing really wrong with it
- Ah Dou and the Empress at that time were giving birth at the same time and Maomao's father was ordered to deliver the Empress baby first.
- The record said that the dead baby was delivered by Maomao's father but her father was ordered to deliver Empress's baby and not Ah Dou's baby. Therefore, she speculates that the babies were swapped and the current Emperor's brother (the Empress Dowager's son) is actually his son (Ah Dou's son).

Counting years means that a child is considered to be one year old at birth, and one year is added to his or her age each time January 1 arrives.
In this episode, the birth took place 17 years ago, so the child born at that time would be 18 years old.

EP 11 SPOILERS
Ah Duo and Empress Dowager (ED) were giving birth at the same time
Ah Duo's partner was the Our Emperor (OE). ED's partner was the Former Emperor (FE)
The FE's child took priority because he was THE Emperor. Luomen (Mao Mao's dad) had to focus on the ED's birth. At some point Ah Duo decided to switch her baby (Ah's Baby, AB) with the ED's baby (Dowager's Baby, DB) to give him a better life. But no one knew.
So Ah Duo and the ED's babies were switched. (AB) is essentially living his life as OE's younger brother. Fengming taking care of (DB) fed him honey and he died. Ah Duo also formed a bond with Lishu who knew honey was bad for babies. So Feng Ming decided to take out Lishu so Ah Duo would never find out about the honey thing.
So in summary, the honey killed the FE's son who is the younger brother of OE. AB is living in place of him due to the switch but he is actually OE's son. The show is strongly suggesting Jinshi is OE's actual son especially considering his resemblance to Ah Duo
@@lithius00It's presumed she was an accomplice to Feng Ming but it's hard to know how much she knew. She may have only known about the succession
@@lithius00 basically the servant that jumped was convinced by Fengming to "sacrifice" herself and take the blame for the poisoning in order to prevent AhDuo and especially Fengming from taking the blame, even if Fengming did the poisoning. That servant jumped herself but obviously considering the humans natural instincts to auto preserve she tried to climb back after jumping and that's why she had bruises on her fingers. AhDuo realized too that the servant in some way "sacrificed" herself for her and that's why we have the scene of her honoring her by pouring the sake in the water.
Regarding Fengming, Maomao gave her the possibility to confess to Lishu's poisoning without mentioning the honey incident so everyone thought she did it because she wanted to make AhDuo stay as a concubine and not because she wanted to silence Lishu and never reveal that she killed the baby.
That "family tree like tumbleweed" moment.
It will make more sense with the next episode ;).

the (current) Emperor's son as you suspect. The manga isn't clearer about it but it's safe to say that Ah-Duo's son with the current Emperor when he was a prince. Both Ah-Duo and the former Empress gave birth at the same time (as we know at this point) but we don't know why the babies were swapped or when exactly.

As for the former Emperor, without spoiling anything, there's no way he slept with Ah-Duo, trust me. He was a pedophile, he liked young girls, not the older concubines. Ah-Duo and the prince were a couple in a way, or should I say, she was his concubine. The former Empress had a baby when she was 11 years old.

4.) Lishu nearly died from honey as an infant, long before she came to the rear palace.
5.) Lady Fengming has easy access to, and utilizes a lot of, honey.
6.) Lady Fengming attempted to poison Lishu at the garden party.
7.) Lishu has been seen around the Garnet Pavilion, aka Ah-Duo's residence.

The thing that keeps getting people confused is people think. The baby died in childbirth this is not the case.
Two babies were born. One baby was sickly. Later on a baby died. The old emperor believes his youngest son is sickly And everybody takes great care to keep him healthy.
If somebody played 3 card Monty with the babies.
To make sure a sickly child had good care. But the stronger child had an incident later.
That is just fate and bad karma.
If that was Jinshi He is the old emperor's grandson. Not the current emperor's little brother.

Well, I'd say biological father, not 'real dad'. The person who raises you and teaches you about the world and molds you into an adult is your 'real dad', not who blew one into your mom.

I still don’t get why Jinshi felt the need to dip his fingers in honey to make MaoMao lick it. What kind of joke is that? Sounds gross.
I love Jinshi but that was just stupid and immature of him. He seems more like a teenage boy who does foolish things just get attention from the girl he likes.
Well, he is an annoying brat taking on the role of an adult as "Jinshi" and Maomao has commented a couple of times on how he seems younger than what he appears.
And of course, Maomao's self depreciation stops her from realizing the disappearance of that child lines up with her father leaving the palace, her own birth, and that she's never met her own mother....
She knows who her mother is and has seen her, it'll be shown later in the series.

Are you reading the manga, or just watching the anime? Either way, both are confusing but for some reason, reading the wiki pages before the manga clarifies things.

If you're referring to Jinshi and Maomao, then no they're not related. If you're referring to Ah Duo and Emperor, then no... it's more accurate to call them milk siblings meaning they were breastfed by same woman and Ah Duo's mother was Emperor's wet nurse and they're childhood friends.
@@benapeh854 i interpeted it as the one who died didn't actually die and was actually maomao, since her father also said something like 'it must've been fate that she went back there' or something. And so the surviving son of the emperor was maybe jishi or something. so same father or whatever.
