New pipe smoker and as I'm learning, newbies tend to lean more towards aromatic tobaccos. Looking to try new things (English in particular) so this is perfect for me, just ordered some before the video was complete. Thanks for the review.
I don't know if it's a good or bad thing I haven't gotten into pipes yet. Good, because I would have a habit I couldn't continue for a few more months. Or bad, because I now have to wait until my 21st birthday in October to try it out.
Pipe smoking isn't habit-forming in the way cigarettes are, assuming you don't inhale which is a very bad thing, (though I guess any hobby can become routine). I have no problem not smoking when I choose not to. In my opinion though it's a good thing to think of pipe-smoking as a laid-back hobby where you take your time, so waiting is no big deal. 😃
@@Bannockburn111 I'd agree with all of this. Pipe smoking can be very relaxing to me. It's the polar opposite to a cigarette where you need to spark up for a quick hit then be gone. With a pipe you have much more routine, preparation, cleaning, storing - this might make it seem a chore but I find it's anything but. Plus, if you do try to smoke a pipe too quickly, puffing on it like a steam train, it will probably punish you and/or burn out the pipe. Many of us have probably learned that lesson the hard way, and now take a pipe more slowly. Blissful!
As to this blend and nice review....The opening of the tin has a "Punch in your face of Rum"...For those thinking the rum barrel stave or tobacco has anything on Frog Morton...NOPE...I would goto Boswell Northwoods, King Frog Morton (kingsmokingpipesandacigars), The Country Squire Shepherd’s Pie for that FM style smoke. "Mississippi River Rum Barrel Aged" is not a Chewy or Dense smoke that I would prefer from this mix, but is overall a light tasting smoke. Is it worth $17-18 which is high for 2ozs...Your $$$'s.
Nother nice video, Bradley. I like SPC blends, the ones I've tried. I particularly like Potlatch. Anyway, I'll have to give both the rum and bourbon vetsions of MR a try. By the way, and if you don't mind, could you tell me where you got your t-shirt with the pipe on it? Did you have it made? I'd love to get one like it. It looks nicely done. Thanks.
Bradley very nice review of this crumble cake i want to try both of them Bradley you did a great review thanks so much for Sharing. Happy smokes😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 best regards peter. The Smoooooove Piper.
I only just heard. I didn't know him personally or have any one on one interactions with him (aside from an email or two), but he seemed like a really great person. That's terrible news.
@@stuffandthingsyoutube hey Bradley, I just saw the ytpc news. John was the one who got me into certain old school aromatics. I know you don't like a lot of them, but I'm smoking a 2.5/1 blend of Captain black vanilla to borkum riff bourbon whiskey in his honor tonight. A sweet perfume to carry our prayers for the matches 860 family to the heavens. Rest in peace John.
Sounds great and it's on the list. I'm done misbehaving for the month. Along with that suave little Capitello pipe, in the past couple of weeks I grabbed both a tin and 8oz bag of Esoterica Dunbar from another member of one of my pipe groups on FB, and just today scored a 250g package of Samuel Gawith St. James Flake when smokingpipes received a Gawith drop. I suspect I'll like the St. James Flake better than you did; I quite like sweeter tobaccos AND a decent amount of Perique. Bad, profligate pipe smoker!
@@igortheterrible8983 You bet! There's a happy coincidence, I'm glad you took advantage of it. I was especially pleased to get the email notification since the SGs are premium tobaccos that are so infrequently available and I've been hot to try that St. James Flake for some time. Mine's already enroute for a Saturday arrival, now I just have to decide which pipe to try it in first. Enjoy yours!
@@mu2freighter thank you Yeah ..i been keeping an eye on SG for a long time lol My bloody shipment is still pending acceptance ...took me a while to see my Good friend Bradley talk abut the rest of the SG blends that i was going to include but decided i won't What are your pipe groups on FB? ... @@igortheterrible8983 I imagine you'll get right into your Full Virginia Flake, but I got my St. James Flake a couple of days ago and quickly learned something critical.... I was tempted to just throw it in the closet and wait till I could get some more before I tried it, but I gave in to temptation and tore right into the package to jar it all. Boy, am I glad I did! The tobacco is packed in a big Ziploc-type bag...and it was WIDE OPEN; they hadn't troubled to zip it shut to seal it at all before it left the factory. The flakes were heavy and very flexible, but had still lost a lot of moisture through evaporation already. Instead of what Bradley refers to as 'Gawith' extreme moisture, practically soggy, that I expected, they were at close to the 'just right' moisture level. Only now are they safe...most in a quart Mason jar so they can age at their full length without being squashed down, the remainder in a 2oz jar that I keep most of my tobaccos for regular rotation in. So, to you and anyone else purchasing any of the available 250g packages of Samuel Gawith tobacco, fergodsake, *_JAR IT IMMEDIATELY!_* If yours is unsealed like mine was and you put it away to age, you'll dig it out some day only to find your precious tobacco _bone dry._ I'm going to contact Smokingpipes to let them know they need to look into this for sure, and if it's not unique to my situation to jump on the people at SG to get them to actually seal the 250g packages they put out. Oh, and my FB groups are 'Brothers and Sisters of the Briar' and 'Brothers of the Briar-Official.' If you hurry, the same guy I got my Esotericas from just posted a new pic of quite a few Esoterica bags and tins he's offering. He asks a bit of a premium over retail, especially for those with some age on them, but _nothing_ like what the eBay hoarders demand; low enough that I pulled the trigger on the Dunbar I wanted without thinking twice.
Maybe you like the flavor because it's more "natural". Just comes from the barrel. Not like a blend with vanilla or fruit added. Why would those need to touch the tobacco?
I wish I could get blends like this or Plum Pudding here in the UK. Unless I order tons of the stuff and brace for the inevitable tax impact, so many of the USA staples like C&D/Frog Morton/etc etc will remain out of reach. The same doesn't seem to be true in reverse; Peterson, Sam Gawith / G&H and others appear to be readily available to you.
@STUFFandTHINGS Hey Bradley, I know you like SPC "Plum Pudding", I see they just came out with "Plum Pudding Rum Barrel Aged". I just bought some and it will arrive in a week. Have you had a chance to try it? I would be interested in see your review of it.
Hmmm i love alcohol flavored tobacco. Perhaps i'll give it a try. Don't like perique i guess. I don't like hounted bookshop either. If i don't try this i might regret it later. Greetings,, Kitty.
I love Ardbeg (which, if you haven't tried it, is VERY smokey), but I don't drink it while smoking my pipe because I'm concerned the smokiness of both pipe and Scotch will interfere with each other. Might have to give it a shot sometime though. 😃
@@Bannockburn111 Petey Scotch and Smokey English blends go together perfectly. I haven't had ardberg yet, but I highly recommend Laphroaig 10. Try it out!

Mississsippi River and this new variant are some of the most delicious blends of all time. Great choice for exploring new but mature flavors.
This blend reminds me of Balvenie Caribbean Cask!

Not sure I like this nearly as much as the original.gonna jar it a while and come back to it.
Great blend, but I wouldn’t classify it as an aromatic. The Rum smell is concentrated on the wood, but not much of it in the tobacco itself I thought.
I would rather drink my Rum.....
