    Wow they are great, I am a sparks with a 100+ year old three story house with messed up three way switching from before we bought the house...as we all hate working in our own houses (electrically) bus man's holiday and all that, and as the previous owner had done a pretty nice painting decorating job, I was putting off chasing walls up the stairs to run in straps...but this video/ product has saved me doing all of that! Going online to order up some now! Cheers man, top vids keep em coming!

    I love using these wireless switches. I usually do the learning process before I mount them on the wall just to save the running around. I think this could be the future of electrics for lighting.

    • @Candisa

      Great idea to use this for garden lighting. I don't know if this is legal in the UK, but here in Belgium we can use "mixed circuits" with lighting and sockets on 1 breaker, which is what I did in my garden using a single 4core + Earth (Earth + Neutral +Live + 2 Switched from inside) cable running throughout the garden with some slack in tactical spots and junction boxes wherever I placed sockets, lights, powered decorations... I thought it was a great idea for doing this since this allows me to easily add lights, sockets, decorations later if I need them and my garden isn't large enough to ever need more than one permanent and two switched live feeds.
      The mistake I made there was not accounting for having switches outside so I can only turn on/off the lights from inside the house. This is a great way to add a switch wherever I want in the garden, I can even put one right in the side of my chair or in the table without needing extra wiring.

    Love these, fantastic in a period property with ornate plasterwork and / or wood panelling, no need to disturb any of it or spend hours trying to find a route behind. Also solves the problem of switching bedroom lights from the bed, when the lady of the house decides she wants to rearrange the furniture and shift the bed to the opposite wall- the switch could be mounted to a bedside table or even the bed frame and always be in exactly the right place no matter how often they are moved.

    Simple way of doing things is to take the switch modules with you into the loft rather than having to run up and down the stairs & ladders!

    • @farmersteve129
      @farmersteve129 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@goodcat1982 but that bit can be done after pairing. In fact, I wouldn't of cut the holes in the walls until I had paired the switches & done a rough test with the switches in the approximate position.

    • @farmersteve129
      @farmersteve129 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @goodcat1982 what's the point of fitting them in the wall to find out that they won't pair? Pairing & testing whilst in the loft proves that the system is working in ideal conditions & saves running up and down stairs and ladders so much - if it doesn't work when you then move it to location you know that it's related to the location rather than faulty equipment or failed pairing!

    Use these to remove borrowed neutrals on 2 way lighting. Cut the live feed from the downstairs feed at the switch. The landing light is then fed from upstairs but better than a borrowed neutral. The upstairs and downstairs lighting can then be split on an RCD or RCBO board.

    Great system, years ago a similar system was available but unlike this MK set up you needed power to the switch. This is so much better I will be tying this out at my place before clients, could be a good money saver in time and indeed effort a good balance of product cost against first fix cost, brilliant. The number of click activation is a hell of a lot most light switches are used less than you think.

    i had to fit one in a old farmhouse a few years ago when they first came out, its in a sitting room where the one light in the center of the room was a old fan plus light setup which had pull cords on it for switching. the couple that had the house moved in at wanted it changed but never thought to maybe look at doing before re doing the whole room decor which cost them a fair bit. so i told them there was one thing we could try and put it all together with a new light fitting which was big enough to mount and hide the reciver and its worked ever since, would still rather hardwire where possible, tbh

    Hi CJR.
    I forgot to add. What happens if theres a powercut? Do you have to re-program the unit again to the switches?

      @clivepenny 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, if power goes they just go to off mode then just press it once powers back and hey presto.

    Do you know if there's a 2 way replacement?
    I see 1 gang and 2 gang but I need a 2 way replacements as 2nd switch for 2 way is lost. Or hidden somewhere... Old install...

    A good alternative to using shelly but you need a neutral... Wondering how to takle it if using a switch and want to make it 2 way.

      They do a built in receiver switch that doesn’t require a neutral.

    Great job. Informative as always. Shame the PIR option didn’t work out. Did you try and swap for a different one to see if it performs any better? Doing this helped with one of mine that was playing up but not one of the others.
    Switches look great. Slim surface mount options from other vendors are available, saving on the effort of cutting out. Just a thought.

    What powers the switches? They don't appear to have batteries, so is there a tiny generator in each one?

    • @Cjrelectrical
      @Cjrelectrical  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinetic energy once you press the switch

      @@Cjrelectrical Very neat! I presume they need a firmer press than conventional switches, so would they be OK for a little old lady with arthritis?

    • @Cjrelectrical
      @Cjrelectrical  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No if you’ve used Mk push to make switches before which are quite hard to press. These are easy to press with little force needed.

    Looks like more and more wireless products are coming out. Who knows what the next big push will be. Only problem I've seen with wireless is interference from other devices. My two doorbell chimes ring with a completely different chime to the set one and no ones at the door. Must be a neighbour has something that sets it off. I need to reset them but it's just another job my wife's put on her list for me to do.
