Snivy Bro this whole video was a love letter to the Pokémon franchise and it was colossally personal. I haven’t been able to attend a tournament because I live in Mexico (and the only time they brought a Pokémon event was the Orchestra that wasn’t even held on my city 🤡). PS: 2:17 Dude if you look at the upper left we almost have the same Wii games and even arranged on similar order: Kirby Epic Yarn, Mario Party 8, Galaxy 1 & 2 and Smash Brawl.
I'm glad you liked it! I feel your pain about the tournament locations - I live in Canada where they hardly have any Pokemon tournaments. I had to travel to the US for the first tournament I talk about in this video
I just discovered your channel and that's actually insane, my first tournament was the Last Chance Qualifier for that same 2011 Pokemon National Championships in Indianapolis. I ended up getting 52nd place in the Juniors division, but I was 10 years old, I was glad I managed to do even that well!
@@Snivy102 Yeah! I remember learning about the Justified Beat Up strategy against an opponent who was using a Terrakion and a Whimsicott, 10 years later and I still don't forget about that simply because of how quickly it swept my team during Nationals.
I wish I could have the same experiences. I fell off with competitive Pokemon because I couldn't compete in anything other than WiFi competitions for one sole reason. In person events never happened in my country. I realized that only playing with my friends, showdown and WiFi competitions weren't what I wanted from Pokemon. I just kept looking with envy towards other players on nugget bridge and the livestreamed matches...
2:55 I was at that nationals back in elementary school! Somehow managed to get 4th in the juniors division for the TCG, huge nostalgia wave hit me seeing the venue again!
Hey man just found ur real vs fake video in my recommendation and decided to check out your channel after finishing that vid cause it was very well put together. Keep up the good work dude, looking forward to more vids! :D
man I wish I could go to one of these but I live in peak suburbia with a ton of 40-50 year olds and their tiny kindergarten-age children so it’s not much of an option :’D shame too, a tournament would probably be the best place for me to finally find a friend irl anyways personal ramblings aside, great video as always! it’s weird to hear about the melee community being called casual and chill in *any* context, but your personal experiences make the whole thing a lot more palatable
There was only one time I went to a game tournament, and that was Tetris in 2019 in Denmark. All participants has to play with bricks falling down very fast and unfortunately, I only played Tetris a few times, so I fell rock bottom😂. But in that same place, many owners of game shops and few gamers even sells and trades games. You can even play Smash Bros Melee with a second player on an arcade-like machine. It was my first time ever playing Melee, but I already got some experience with the games (very fast-paced though). It was just fun-to-play matches, so we had no hard feelings. Game tournaments is something I really to try again, cuz it just gives me a feeling of excitement, like meeting people that are just as into gaming as you are. Good thing I found it just before next year XD
Stumbled onto your channel today through your Pokemon game prices video and I gotta say I love your videos man, It's been a while since I've gone to my melee locals but this has me excited to go back. Keep up the great vids!
The two times I went to Evo were two of the coolest weeks of my life. I got to meet a bunch of people who I looked up two, and having total strangers pop off for your Marvel set is something else. I want to get that game that makes me want to do great, not just to play it and have a good time, but to have similar experiences in tournament again. Great video
this videos making me start to regret never going to a smash tournament before lockdown. Over the past year since quarantine began, I've basically quit smash altogether, so it'd be kinda silly for me to try one out once they become more common again
I've stopped playing during lockdown as well (except the first couple months). I'll probably get destroyed at the first tournament I attend after things open up 😅
I would also say this applies to Trading Card tournaments too. You'll feel just like a Yugioh character in tune with their cards toppling other friends and foes.
I remember that time me and my brother saw you going to that Pokémon Tournament idk what year that was it was fun seeing you play against other people at that time Snivy 102 we hope to see you in another Tournament and see you play in it like before
I always kept to playing Smash online due to a couple of factors, but I was worried about how my parents would view it. But when I was able to actually connect and talk with people in my esports club this past year while playing competitively, even though it was all online, the game doesnt feel the same without them.
One of the tournaments I remember the most was a small one held in a McDonalds, it was the first Sun and Moon tourney held there, and the only tourney I attended before was an ORAS tourney where I lost in quarter finals. Since the game was quite recent I didn't have much time to build my team as I wanted to (just beat the story and caught and trained a Tapu Koko asap which THANKFULLY had HP Ice, no time for Hyper Training its mediocre Def IVs...) and yet still pulled it to the finals. I still lost 2v1, but I remember how exciting the whole thing was, the organizers even streamed the final match in their FB page. Know what? Thank you for reminding me of my competitions.
[ Comment to help the algorithm ] When you talked about how toxic players can’t behave that way IRL, it reminded me of my favorite anime and Novel: Magical Girl Raising Project (recommended if you loved Mirai Nikki, Madoka Magica or Danganronpa). In that anime girls can become magical girls, and something interesting is that it isn’t exclusive for little or teen girls, everyone can. Every magical girl has a backstory, one of them who acts really childish happens to be a 25 yrs NEET, a powerful and intimidating girl is a shy and neglected child. And it gets better on the continuations that are in light novel format, one girl had to see her whole family be murdered, another comes from a cannibal tribe and other is a Mouse IRL. BTW one of the girls turned out to be a dude 😂.
2:16 I apologize if this comment doesn't have anything to do with the topic, but what Gamecube games you own are some of the most expensive games? (Path of Radiance, Gotcha Force, Cubivore, Go Go Hypergrind, etc)
This comment just gave me a terrifying flashback to a crazy deal I saw on Kijiji last week: Fire Emblem, Chibi Robo, Double Dash, Sunshine, system and controller, for $100. I was first to message the buyer, but unfortunately I was outbid by resellers willing to do $300+ because they'd obviously be reselling all those games - whereas I'd be keeping the 2 expensive games. But to answer your question, I don't own any really expensive GameCube games. I guess you could make an argument that XD and Colosseum are expensive, but they've only become expensive recently and I'm not sure where their price will be down the road. Also, the Colosseum bonus disc is probably my most expensive GameCube item, but I wouldn't really consider that a game.
@@Snivy102 Oh man, sorry about making you remember about that xD I understand the frustration of losing the chance to get such a HUGE deal. The fact that the Jirachi they give away in the game is the SOLELY reason of why Colosseum bonus disc is more expensive than the final game itself is really mind-blooging. If you are curious, my most expensive Gamecube games are Path of Radiance, Gotcha Force and Skies of Arcadia Legends.
If you go to a smash tournament you should expect to deal with some seriously unpleasant BO…there is a reason smash tournaments have been forced to enforce “hygiene” standards in the past
Ya ik Snivy people says bad things online because they cant see you face to face I don't understand why people online gets upset when they lose and doesn't say good game like you do face to face at my school I said good game to them
Maybe start by going to only one single big tournament a year that you can plan ahead for. I only started out by attending one or two tournaments a year. Also, try dragging your friends to it as well 😂 - you'll be less nervous that way
Because there's more to me than just Pokemon. If you're looking for a Poketuber, there's a ton out there. They all do the same type of content and largely have no character.

That's hype! I still have a fondness for the VGC 2011 ruleset. It was limited to just the Black/White Pokedex, but I actually found it very enjoyable!
