1978DT! It was hard to watch you cut a clean seat pan as My friends and I have been preserving these old two strokes for decades. The seat turned out great! The tank too. You’ve certainly improved the overall look. Rear racks were popular and will fit from several different years and sizes. Great bike! They run good until you over heat the engine. So watch for that. You make my Sunday mornings. Thank you.

What I love about videos like this from Laura, is that she'll start a video by saying "I've never done this/I don't know how to do this" and then spends the rest of the video making me wonder how good she'd be if she DID know how to do these things. Amazing leather work. That seat looks sick!

I'm busy restoring a 1979 Honda CBX 1000. I never thought I would ever tackle anything like this in my life!!! I saw a TH-cam video of the CBX. 6 Cylinders!!!! And it sounded like an F1 car! I knew instantly that I wanted one now!! I found one and flew 1000 miles and managed to drive it "most" of the way home, impressing lots of people along the way 😁. The thought of the restoration was daunting at first, and I wondered what I'd gotten myself into, but after 2 years, it is almost brand new again and I can't wait to get it on the road and hear that beautiful sound again!!! 😍🙏

How I know I've watched too much CraftyTube: See the box from Weaver, immediately hear Chuck Dorsett's slightly scratchy but immensely enthusiastic tones in my head introducing himself and Weaver Leathercraft. 😆
Good work with the tank and seat! I dig the (...brass? copper? gold?) pop rivets, and I assumed you were sanding the tank to put on multiple coats of gun blue, but it looks nice with the faded single coat.

It's funny, if one of my friends came to me and said, 'I'm going to customize my motorcycle with no experience,' I would have several concerns and would make sure that the fire department and local hospitals were notified in advance. However, when Laura Kampf says she wants to customize a motorcycle with no experience, my first thought is, 'This is going to be amazing and I'm going to learn so much watching her work!'

Those DT Yamaha where very well built dirt bikes. Not racing machines, but very good trail bikes for their day. A friend had a 250 back in the late 70's It was old, but was dependable as hell. Im now 58 and ride a Yamaha TW200 on the trails and roads. Also have 3 Harleys. 67 70 and 07 Big Twin. But I LOVE my little TW !

Can you expand on the finishing process for the tank some? It looks like you blued the metal, but there was still red paint around it the edges, but in the next shot it looked to all be blued? I'm also curious about the oil treatment before applying a two part clear, what was done to let the clear stick to oiled metal? The end result is awesome looking though!

This is great! I have a buddy who does motorcycle seats professionally and one thing he does is apply PVA glue to the underside of all the stitching so that the friction between the cover and the foam doesn’t fray and eventually break the stitches from underneath. Also, if you’ve got a pneumatic staple gun, that’s more than enough to adhere a cover to a seat pan. Can’t wait to see the rest of what you do to this bike.
