Senna wasn't scared of driving these cars, the cars were scared of driving with Senna
that's true man
Niels Lauridsen too true
sennamovic
Niels Lauridsen I was feeling sad after the video, but your comment made me smile .
Thanks
agree brother.. true words!
the worst part is, they never recorded the lap... only ayrton will ever truly know what he did so well that day
Gives us more room for imagination..
It's like nobody wants us to see what happened during the lap . Even people on the circuit don't know how he did it except for the telemetry
It's a known fact that senna got the best parts and the best honda engine. That's one of the reasons why prost left
@@Sebastian_Torr where did you see that?
@@jackbeason8058 Honda themselves said it. Prost said that Honda apologize to him after a few years he left and admit that Senna is prioritized more by the team.
Senna was interviewed by Jackie Stewar in the early ninties, and at one point Jackie basically tried to say that Senna is the driver with the most contacts and crashes in the last years, and Senna answered (among other answers):
"If you no longer go for a gap which exists, you are no longer a racing driver"
Its probably the best and most truthful statement ive ever heard from a sportsmen.
have to came back from time to time too see it again.
fucking gooseumbs.
Gone, but never forgotten.
G.O.A.T.
that quote from senna is so true if you're going beyond from your limits of course sometimes things goes wrong but what really staggers me the most about senna is even if he goes beyond his limits he mostly make things perfect.
this was after the japanese gp when he crashed into prost on purpose to win the world championship. It was more of an excuse to what he did than him trying to convey the truth. That day, he went for a gap which didint exist
returning prost's favour from the previous season
@@kartsandcars61 SORRY MAN, NOW WE NOW THAT pROST WAS WRONG AND Jean-Marie Balestre admitted it
As a Brazilian, I always thought that Senna was only special for us. Today after 20 years without him I could notice that he was special for every single race fan. Thanks Mc Laren for the video and I wish Senna has never left this team.....
As an American, he's incredibly special to me because of what he did on and off the track. He's an inspiration.
Ricardo Freitas you have no idea ....
I was 16 years old when that awful day happened at imola . I'm now 42 and I still miss aryton he was an amazing person , I'm from Britain and I live not far from the mclaren workshop ( 5miles) .
Dude I am Indian and his passion hard work always inspires me.
Ricardo Freitas No my friend, Senna was in the hearts of people all around the world. I'm half German and half Bulgarian, crossing Europe from East to West in the times of the Cold war, being able to live it both. No matter if in the communist East or the capitalist West - Senna was the God on the track! I remember the black weekend of 94 like it was yesterday - the Saturday already created a dark aura with Ratzenberger's death and then the crash happened .... For couple of hours there was hope, but then the truth hit us ...
@ideafix Me too, I could not watch F1 again
I love the mystical side of Senna ... there will never be anyone else like him.
I believe there will be, And they will make him proud
Never in our lifetime!
@@navid535 another like Senna ? Go to sleep kid
Senna was a hero in Japan, Honda's engineers held him in high regard for his knowledge of engineering and the valuable feedback he gave them. He could drive better than anyone, and also speak to engineers in their own language. He was somewhat of a mythical legend in Japan..
"But the one story that will always define Senna in my eyes is this: When Prost and Senna both drove for McLaren, the team used Honda engines that were maintained solely by mechanics provided by Honda. Prost complained bitterly that Senna got better engines than he did - I once witnessed privately Prost berating Dennis over this in Phoenix, a charge Dennis angrily denied.
Frustrated, Prost went to the head of Honda’s engine program and asked why the Japanese mechanics who worked on the Honda engines seemed to like Senna more than they liked him.
“You must understand,” said the Honda engineer. “To them, you are The Professor. But he, he is the Samurai.”"
Walter MacLeod, that was awesome. Thank you for sharing this history.
Ekati Is this from a book? May I know the source? I love it.
There is video here in youtube which Japanese reporters covers Senna's death and they can't hold their emotion and cry a lot live, not even Brazilian reporters cried covering Senna's death.

They say he went away to his room and cried for some hours before reappearing publicly, after the crash. This man was strongly spiritual and whatever he felt within, he used the energy and desire and translated this power within him in the F1 car. Whatever he felt on that qualifihing lap exceeded his consciousness and psychical limits, he took the car and himself over the limit. He drove the car without thinking he is driving. This experience scared him as it would for any human being to push a 1000hp GP car with more grip (qualifying tires), manual gear box and clutch. What I learnt from this great man is to "Follow the belief you are capable and find it within you". Siempre Senna
Awesome lines. I second what you have mentioned
migatte no gokui xD
And then he went on to win the next 5 Monaco’s in a row, talk about learning from your mistake huh?

When you walk around in Monaco, you realize how crazy that "track" is.
Exactly. If it wasn't already on the calender and someone proposed the track as it is today, they would get laughed at.
No way Monaco would be approved today. Way to dangerous.
Thankfully it has become an untouchable classic.
That track is crazy mate, I agree they wouldn’t approve it nowadays
When Ayrton won in Detroit in 1988, I watched him walk all the way back to the area where the Honda engineers were stationed monitoring the car during the race, & he shook the hands of every one of them.
amazing history
I used Senna's quote on this experience for my Ph.D. personal statement. I got accepted.
Congrats
And what is that quote
I worked in F1 when he was there, and I knew him a little.
It was surreal to stand there, microphone in hand, and think, “this is the greatest racing driver in the world . . .”.
You have great memories
he was a driving god in human form. He was the Jesus of F1. Miss you Ayrton Senna, We all do
c est pour cela que son DIEU l as reppris aupres de LUI
there's a joke from way back in the day (late 80s about Senna). Jesus is a huge F1 fan and fan of senna. They're doing some racing in heaven and it's wet and there's one car in front a lap ahead of 2nd place. The driver is Jesus. 2 angels are watching the race and one turns to the other and says "who does he think he is, Ayrton Senna?".
@asdasd6835 what hahahaha un comparable
I don't like when people compare senna to god
I mean he's good but nowhere near senna
@@darshilshah6329 Senna was a great driver but nowhere near the perfection of God.

Stratos Vertzinis god bless
Stratos Vertzinis true
Senna die for us, I was there...

The King of Monaco, greatest driver ever.
I was just a kid, but I remember watching F1 every sunday with my dad. When he died was like someone close to me had passed away. F1 was never the same. He's still the only idol for me and many brazilians. Today we remember Senna.
That's me in the video. indescribable feeling to wear Senna's own outfit and use his belongings during the shoot.
When I first saw this video I wondered someone had played his steps. Well done work!
Thanks. That was in Mclaren Technologie centre , in Woking, UK.
Jad Marz you are so lucky sir!..... I would love to touch : (The formula, Helmet, Gloves.... ) :)
Really? Jad Marz It's you? I thought it was Bruno Senna, you know Senna's nephew?

So true man
Thanks Man.. for a brazlian fan!
This man was my childhood hero. I saw him race at Spa in 93' against Schumacher, Hill and Prost. Its still one of my fondest memories to this day. He made me a McLaren fan. I still am today. Ill always remember him.
i can almost cry watching this
i miss him alot RIP man
He was a true racing driver, we can wait a hundred years, nobody will drive with the same passion as him.
I have said that to people all my life. He's similar to Einstein, Bruce Lee, etc.
When Senna got into that chassis and put the steering wheel on and strapped in. The car and him became one it was like his mind and the car were connected without having to touch each other. It was and will be the greatest, most beautiful and amazing thing I have ever seen in my life.
He’s not dead he’s just one lap ahead of us
Now in 2018 McLaren made a car and named it after Ayrton Senna to honor him... Rest in peace legend ✌ 🏎
"You Drive and Drive, yet in some moment you filling the car as part of your body, and in this moment not have more difference between you and the machine, because we are one". - Ayrton Senna.
He was He is he will be the number 1. Forever in my heart
Ayrton Senna was not just a racing great, he was ...well...something else. He drove differently, performed differently, and took risks. As Senna once said, he knew the risks. He might have driven dangerously, but that's what sets him aside from everyone, even michael schumacher by a long shot. Maybe by statistics, Michael Schumacher is the best of all time, but Senna, is by far, the most enthusiastic, dedicated, hard-working, and most talented people i have heard of. It's not just a shame that he died, the whole world took a huge impact to that moment in '94. Nobody could have competed with him, he took on the hot shots in F1 easily. This is why there was a huge impact. If it was a new person in F1 or somebody less experienced, it would have been less of an impact. Obviously, it would still make an impact on F1, but not as big as with Senna. This is why I would like to be the successor to Senna, to race the races he missed out on. #ripsenna You will stay in our hearts forever. #racinggod #remembersenna
We all miss him...
R.I.P. Ayrton Senna.
The greatest ever. Your legacy is unmatched.

Grande Senna ! El mejor piloto por lejos del resto en la historia! Sin comparación!!!
"He was the hero, the ultimate racing driver right up until the moment he lost his life" - Ron Dennis, speaking to the BBC 2014. There is really nothing else that needs to be said. Ayrton Senna (considered the King by Michael Schumacher), the greatest racing driver of the modern era and Fangio the greatest driver of all time as per Senna. And this is how this stupid debate that rages on forever is settled if we just listen to the drivers we admire.
Tears. Sometimes I need to watch this one more time.
chills and goosebumps. just listening to him and his car back then. wow

Such a shame ive never been able to find footage of 88 qualifying. Thank you Mclaren for making this. :) #remembersenna
Great Senna. Immortal!!!
the greatest ever
The crime of the century: Not recording the lap, no telemetry, video, nothing. One of the greatest qualifying laps of all time is only truly known by Senna himself. He went above the limit, pushing the car so perfectly that he was zoned out for 95% of the lap.
@@allainangcao28 THE purest lap of all time in motorsport. No other lap has ever been as perfect.
I'm currently reading 'The Life of Senna' for the fourth time. It's an absolutely absorbing read. I remember all of his F1 races from 84 to 94. The detail in the book takes you back to those wonderful days when Ayrton started dominating the sport. I still follow F1 today, but that era was for me, the best ever. Ayrton was something very different in both driving and personality the sport had not seen before or will ever likely to again. When he died, it felt as if I'd lost a close relative or friend such was the grief. We will never see his like again. RIP.
R.I.P Senna, a true legend.
On a different note I bet he'd be ashamed if he could hear the noise the cars make this season.
don't forget he drove during the latter part of last turbo F1 era (1977-87), when fans were also upset over the "lack" of noise. So no, he wouldn't have been ashamed IMO, he would have found his way into the best car of the day and won with it. Impossible to know his thoughts, but I suspect he'd be far more offended by the ridiculous rule changes forcing teams to use two tyre compounds, kers, and the idiotic DRS fakery than the sound of the cars.
The 1988 MP4/4 had a 1.5L V6 Honda turbo engine.
F1 constantly changes
The engines have gone full circle.
Alan Green
But the old turbo engines had a better exhaust note.
There's even rumours going round that the teams are allowed to change their exhausts to improve the sound because they sound so bad. I even saw Bernie Ecclestone admit on live TV they sound horrendous.
Fabio Fantone True... It should be possible to tweak the regulations, between the end of this season and next season, (no more sour grapes rule changes).
The engineers would say all that sound is wasted energy, the most efficient engine would be practically silent.
Caralho parece que foi feito hoje isso. Senna Sempre... Saudades eterna do Maior piloto de todos os tempos!!!

Beautiful! Rip F1 Legend Ayrton Senna
Well, I can say a lot of things for Senna but I can simply say that he is the greatest Formula 1 driver ever. I admire him a lot and he is my hero like he is to many people. The editing and sound design in this video is incredible and also it gives me goosebumps hearing Senna's voice and his written comment about the lap he has done in Monaco. We miss you a lot Senna but I think you had the greatest gift which is to see God itself. I am sure that you are in peace in heaven with other F1 drivers. There will be no one like you, I mean no one. New era drivers, they think they are racing but to be honest, in your era, 1200 hp, manuel gearbox, cars dancing on the straight line, man, that was real racing. R.I.P the true legend.
Greatest driver that has ever lived.
I will always remember Ayrton!
1.4 seconds is something you don't see even from the first to the last, senna opened this difference from the second, it's unbelievable
Fantastic! I wish he was still with us. Rest in peace ayrton! We love and miss you.
very few words can describe a true legend so I'll leave it at that. Legend! Forever!
The perfect lap

I feel lucky and privileged to have been able to witness and admire his career as it happened. This is a sublime tribute. Thanks, McLaren!
Love this video. Well done!! Senna was godlike during this qualifying session.
I wish I was alive when this legend was racing. Even though he's dead, he is my inspiration to become a racecar driver.
