    Not as bad as these "jokes", but the second worst thing about this episode was the state of the avocados. I feel bad for the contestants, like I know that the one lady had no idea how to handle avocados at all, but they were so underripe that she wouldn't have been able to peel them properly even if she knew how 🥲

      Right- I used to love this show and I am also Mexican and those jokes and making a mockery of sarapes, sombreros, that killed me. We are not a joke. Why is every other culture honored with some educational background on their dishes and a little tutorial of how things should be baked (even though it's typically after they ruin the dessert) but they choose to cook tacos and don't even educate themselves on proper pronunciation of things? Just ugh. I will never watch that show again what an insult to our heritage.

    • @joetowers4804
      @joetowers4804 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think it is. It's just some people who for some reason think it's offensive are more vocal than those who are fine with it. And to tell the truth, in Mexico we make fun of otherwise serious things, and we make fun of ourselves and others. Having someone else make fun of us and suddenly be offended is a bit hypocritical.

    • @Chango420
      @Chango420 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m not offended as a Mexican, but they need to put more effort into their craft if they’re comedians. The jokes were poor effort. If the comedy is reflective of the audience, then the UK must be dreary.

    • @FunFilmFare
      @FunFilmFare ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get that. My anger is not at the contestants, who obviously had 0 exposure to Mexican culture and couldn’t know better. My anger is at the hosts and judges, who clearly had all the time and resources to do more research on Mexico, and portray it in a more nuanced and less lazy stereotyped way. This wouldn’t bother me if they were equally lazy with all foreign cultures. But it’s just the non-Western ones where they suddenly stop putting in the effort.

    I haven’t seen this episode yet but have seen clips. From my perspective, the hosts were probably trying to celebrate Mexican culture. I can see why many would view this as poor taste, but their intentions would have been positive ones. As for the jokes, these guys can’t go 2 seconds without telling a joke.….literally. They joke about everything, and every word. But I can see how they fell flat in this episode.
    One good thing I’m hoping to come out of this episode is that we can get some decent Mexican food in the UK. It’s pretty much none existent. There’s been lots of videos educating us on what we’re doing wrong these last couple of days, and that’s great. That’s how we can learn.
    I’ve been to Mexico many times. I love your country, and love your food. I hope you know you’re very respected in the UK.

    Man wait until you go to any Latin American country for comedy. The jokes are not for the faint of heart. I thought the jokes that the comedians did were basic level tbh and the costume is more for Brits that don't know anything they didn't colonized. Easier for them to understand. I'm offended by the edibles. Not a taco. Not how to cut an aguacate. Not tres leche. Sadly, there are so much more good they could have gone for but I guess it's something they can only familiarize with Mexico. Anyways relax it's really not that big of deal. They just have igornance of different food culture that isn't just fish and chips or curry.

    • @vivatexas
      @vivatexas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I’m well aware how brutal Latin American comedy can be. But even racist Latin American comedy isn’t right. These jokes were basic, but they failed their primary objective- to bring laughter. When Mexicans and non Mexicans alike are saying this wasn’t funny but rather tasteless and offensive, then as a comedian you’ve done something wrong. Letting little things like this slide just empowers the real racists to feel like they can harass and joke about Mexicans in a negative way because they think we wouldn’t defend ourselves. I can’t just sit back and let this happen. This video won’t solve racism, but i hope it’ll show people that Mexicans are proud of our culture and food and won’t let stereotypes define us

    • @user-jv7xc5yo3d
      @user-jv7xc5yo3d 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vivatexas comedy is not ment for everyone. So far from what I saw was a lot of Mexicans (not many Mexican-Americans or Americanize Mexicans) don't care about it and found it funny but only agree the food was offensive. I'm totally down for speaking up. Just be weary with Twitter or any social media, a lot of non-Mexicans and Mexican-Americans agree essentially the same things on what's offensive or not for Mexicans and majority of them have never been to Mexico nor speak español. I'm down for embracing culture and helping people understand things but you can't have people who never live/grew up there or surrounded by its cuture on a daily dictate what's right or wrong. But anyways with comedy it varies person to person on what they find funny. It has its own culture and some people can handle certain comedy and some people are more sensitive to it. And its ok. Also this type of comedy is not ment as a hateful act against a group of individuals. You can definitely tell they mean no harm (food aside). I got no shade here. We all have differences.

Then there is St. Patrick's day where everyone dresses in green, drinks excessively and tries to" Riverdance." Started out as a religious holiday in Ireland with no drinking and now it's a day of stereotyping the Irish. Turned into a way to sell alcohol. And then there are the Leprechaun movies and let's not forget "Lucky Charms". Seems every culture gets hit one way or the other.

I’m sorry Mexico that my country couldn’t produce a show that does your amazing food and culture justice. Everyone involved in this show should apologize for their lazy stereotyping and total absence of research.

    Psh, honestly y'all tripping over this when the real joke is our government.
    ,“not even juan?”
    "Is Mexico a real place?"
    ...Fuck Donald Trump!

      No he visto el show.

      Humor is supposed to bring laughter. Mexicans and non Mexicans alike are in agreement that this didn’t bring laughter, but rather was tasteless and offensive. If they were actual racists saying this, then it would be expected and most would pay no attention to this. But as comedians with the platform they have, they failed at their job and hurt people in the process. Without being called out, little things like this can easily empower actual racists to say negative things about Mexicans because to them, they’ll think we’ll just take crap shoveled at us and won’t defend ourselves.

      Part of embracing culture(particularly if you are a tv show) involves learning about it, and representing it correctly. Not doing even the smallest bit of research makes it seem like they didn’t care and were just using Mexican culture to draw in viewers. That was peoples problem, it wasn’t that they were embracing Mexican culture(nobody had a problem with that) it was that they butchered it.
