    Mexico isn't a race, it's a country. Making fun of Mexicans is no different than making fun of Russians, Americans, Canadians, Germans, Frenchies, or whatever.

    • @choreomaniac
      @choreomaniac 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Even worse than that. Mexican isn’t an ethnicity either. Russia is mostly ethnic Russian. Germany is full of ethnic Germans related genetically to one another. But Mexico is an immigrant country like the US or Canada. There are many races there and many ethnicities. Salma Hayek is 100 percent Mexican even though genetically she is 50 percent Lebanese and 50 percent Spanish. One can be full Nahuatl and Mexican or all of African heritage.
      Ironically, the same people who would be offended by someone saying that an American with Asian heritage “isn’t a real American” is perfectly fine with assuming that all Mexicans look alike. It’s ignorance and narcissism at its worst.

    I went to London once. One of the things that surprised me was that they had all kinds of European, Asian, and Middle Eastern restaurants, but not a single Mexican restaurant anywhere we went. There just isn't nearly as much Mexican immigration in the UK as we get here in the states. It's not racism, it's just demographics.

    Honestly the white cakes at 1:49 with the bright flowers could be Mexican, a bright floral cake at a Grocery in the suburb I grew up in a upper-class suburb that had whites, & yes Mexicans the children of immigrants who were college educated & wanted that white picked fence, & their were a lot of ppl who were both white & Mexican too so with both combined I saw cakes like that but they'd be pastels de tres leches the chocolate cakes in Mexican baking(chocolate period) has a more cinnamon flavor added into it that's. But, in terms of tradition it varies from city, to town, to family. Bright & Colorful really is one of the keys the combo left over from Spain or mixed with the indigenous blood. I'm part Mexican & this show isn't offending me.

    This show went downhill as soon as Mary Berry and the original hosts left the show. Even this show went woke, they brought in the bald host and every other thing he said he brought up he was gay. I just want to hear lovely British voices and see wonderful treats being made.

    0:50 I'm not even into cooking shows. I don't think this is terrible or racist. I just got a little excited because the bald guy is from Doctor Who. He's a funny comedian and made a great companion to 12. In this, he's awkward and you're right, no one looks like they're comfortable but he still managed to make me smile and he at least looked like he was having fun.

    The only thing offensive is if they weren't having fun when there's tequila and mezcal, spicy food, and color. I really enjoy people going outside their comfort zone and trying other cultures. Seeing the old lady peeling the avocado was both funny and endearing because she probably hadn't dealt with one before but at least she tried. It's a big world and a short time, so the best we can do is try everything.

    I remember in earlier seasons of GBBO they actually used to have a whole segment where the host went on location to learn about whatever culture they were baking from that week (i.e. Denmark, etc.). It’s my understanding that the show moved from the BBC to a new TV channel and things changed a bit after that (the two female hosts left and so did the female judge). I bet if the show was still on the BBC they would have had the hosts go learn about Mexican culture and this whole freak out wouldn’t have happened…
