Here is a project for you: build a cart with wheels that can be put under the boat. This way you can move the boat over the creek bed without the log rollers. The cart can be strapped over the boat so that the wheels can be firmly fixed to the boat.

Search for Relentless Sportsman’s video on his canoe/kayak cart (I.e., your dingy with engine is much heavier than a fiberglass kayak, so he’d need to beef it up, but it’s a good starting point).

That would really work wonders, if it's something Jay can put together at the beginning of the first 'portage' and then leave it at the end of each 'portage', even year round, if necessary. And then.for every other trip he can bring in maximum loads in the summertime !! A project for next year for sure !

I was thinking the same thing. Could probably find the material at the local dump.

    • @roggae1981

Don't think the creek bed allows that, the boat is heavy! You'd need very wide tires, I guess, which would make the cart very bulky and heavy. The man needs that room for other things.
But I do like your constructive thoughts, nonetheless! :)

Love the cross pollination between all the cabin builders. Wall tents inspired by Jay, foundations inspired by Bushradical, log cabins inspired by Kyle's Cabin and the Outsider, etc. I watch all you guys and also get inspiration. Thanks Jay for being a part of this.

Another trick to make an accurate right angle, also based on the Pythagorean theorem is the 3, 4, 5 method. Side 1 is 3 long (ft, yrd, inch), side 2 is 4 long, the diagonal should be 5 long. (3 sqr + 4 sqr = 9 + 16 = 25, sqr root of 25 is 5). This is a good way to start larger squares. and it also works on multiples. In your case. 12 is 3 x 4. So the starting point on the first straight side should be at 3x3 = 9 ft. The length of the diagonal should now be 3x5 = 15 ft. Do the same to set your other corner and you should be square all around. Of course, checking the full diagonals again is just another layer of making sure and can't hurt.

The way you are learning things and making action to find what you don't know, and learning and making action.......is the most rewarding thing in life. It's not the same as just earning a dollar for cutting an acre of grass. We all need our grass cut, but growing your brain and hands at the same time is life changing. I enjoy keeping up with you. Two suggestions- 1. Build a simplistic buggie to transport your boat instead of pushing it - just a couple of planks of wood and 4 bicycle or large wheels. Leave it near where you know you’ll need it. 2. Put a couple of 24 hour trail-cams around your property to let us check in anytime to see what’s going on there - run them on a separate sub-channel to this one.

Dave does a great simple job. A one man show like us. Not easy. You have to think ahead and work smart. Start on one corner, call it good, work around it twelve feet, cut board exactly that and tie it back in to otherside. It will be right with adjustments to the cross measurement for squareness, the 17 ft. Not hard, just do it right. Add water to the drill holes, cool the bit. Level plumb and square. Get you a string line level. Set up some corners with the strings crossing the right distance and location. Not hard. 12 out 12 across. It will be square to the cabin wall. All good. Good luck getting in and out. Save all that lumber you will need ever stick by the time this is done. Anything less that 14 half inches can go. .Plumb bob the location of the outer corner. It will work out. Put a nail at a common height on each corner to string/measure out from. Then set the distance between. All good From east Kentucky USA have at it.

It is amazing how far you have come and the quality of your videos. Just a suggestion….make or have someone make a lite two axle small tire contraption to haul your boat during low water to portage your boat. We did this in northern Minnesota when we had to portage our Lunds from lake to lake. We built two and stored them at each lake. You dragging your boat in the mud and dirt/rock you are going to end up popping rivets because they’ll be worn down by friction.

Jay you should be very proud what you learned so far. I think you are doing an awesome job. It's a little to late in life for me to use it but you have taught me that clamps are very helpful. The only problem I have had with your last couple videos is you haven't been showing you cooking your famous meals. I miss those but the videos are awesome as usual. And as always stay safe and God bless from Missouri. 33:30

Just a thought , you might want to make sure the extra holes you drilled are filled and sealed , you don’t want water freezing in them

Jay, I'm sure you gave thought to how you are going to protect the floor from rain and snow while you are away. I guess a large tarp will work, but make sure it's really secured. Have fun and be safe on your travels.

Jay you pump out videos like no other TH-camr does right now. Keep that steam and hustle because you are unmatched at that buddy. Says a lot. When you hit a million subs don’t ever lose it either over money like most TH-camrs do. Keep them coming and we’ll keep on watching. Bryan from Brooklyn NY!!!!!

Jay, I wish you the very best of success. I always look forward to viewing your content. After growing up on a farm and then working 39 years as an automotive mechanic (thirty-one as a mechanics teacher who is now retired). I always enjoy seeing people's resourcefulness and their honing of valuable skills. In our present turbulent time, content like yours is refreshing and important. It brings a positive moment to many. Your shared adventures, outings and ambitions are for me like rain on a field needing it. And saying that, may your subscriber list continue to grow.
