It's known as a Preemption device. It's integrated into the lightbar electronics and mounted inside the lightbar frame. It sends out an electronic signal to the traffic light. It's illegal for anyone other than piolice, fire or EMS to own or operate.
Not just 14Hz. They support 10, 12, and 14Hz, usually one frequency each for police, medical, and fire vehicles. They can do more than this though, encoding vehicle IDs in the strobe and more. See the documentation for Opticom's "model 792 emitter" for the complete specs.
Wait wait this been known for years, why they act like they never heard it? Hmmm most ambulance and firetruck have those and they can call traffic lights control to fix the lights . This been going on for years! Lol yall behide its ok
really? that seems a bit counter-productive, as it would mean vehicles stopping right in your path, instead of trying to get through the green light before pulling over
You can usually get old reserve/scrap fire engines though the lights and sirens can’t be used on the road if it’s not used for responding to emergencies or if you are on private road, though in most states/countries you can keep or install lights and sirens as long as they aren’t illegally used on public roads.
I suppose if you can get a permit to operate lights and sirens yes otherwise you’ll go to jail for 15 years. Get a permit for running them before you run them.
I remember when someone tried to break up that company's monopoly on this and was treated like a criminal instead of a capitalist.

Right! You must have a permit in order to use it or get it.
anyone else blast fire truck sirens to turn the light green
sirens? dude its a light sensor, not audio, 14hz of flashing infrared
its the strobe
Opticon uses 14hz of infrared strobe

It's called a no news day lol they've probably had this story in "the bank" for a while now 😅
Where i’m from the emergency vehicles just freeze all 4 traffic lights to red. Then they go through the intersection.

Trooper Steve, he's naive!
I just follow the fire trucks till I get close to where I’m going
That’s illegal if they have lights and sirens on
@@jayasmrmore3687 what’s illegal about it? Speed limit yea I know that, but what else?
@@KenI915 following a responding emergency vehicle closely itself is illegal, not necessarily about the speed limit.
TROOPER STEVE
yes
nice dress
Amazing body
These emergency vehicles are gonna cause another accident, or kill more people driving the way they do.
💀maybe if people actually knew how to drive and would move out the way there wouldnt be an issue
It's called being an attentive driver.
Yea, ok Karen. And you’ll be the 1st crying they took too long to get to your emergency.
Can fire trucks be bought with everything equipped on it like with lights and sirens and the department name
