100 hidden packages before the first mission in 56:03 (single segment)

In this video, I start a new game, collect the 100 hidden packages in prison clothes, then finish the first mission "Luigi's Girls".
First, I collect all of the packages in Portland (except the one in the subway and the one in the water). Then, I do the tunnel trick to get to Staunton Island before the bridge is repaired. Then, I collect most of the packages in Staunton. Then, I take a fast car through the subway tunnel and grab the subway package in Portland. Then, I drive through the subway tunnel to Shoreside Vale and collect all of the packages there. Then, I fly the dodo to the top of the bridge that connects Staunton to Shoreside and grab that package. Then, I jump down to Staunton and grab a fast boat to collect the last packages.
The time starts after the cut-scene where 8-Ball gets in the Kuruma and you can see the game clock (it starts at 4:09). The time ends when the game clock appears after finishing the first mission "Luigi's Girls" (ends at 12:12). 12:12 minus 4:09 is 8:03, plus 2 "days" (24 minutes each), equals 56:03.

My first attempts were by going to shoreside first so I can do the dodo package, but once I got confident with the dodo package I saved it for the end to get a faster time

It's a pity that most of the places and buildings in this game are not even used for any of the missions..
I wish I knew anything about modding, I'd make every building enterable with secret spots too
+Nachtwanderer This game came out in 2001 and was the first of its kind. they didn't have open-world sandbox type games where you could enter many buildings, because it wouldn't fit on 1 PS2 disc, even a dual-layered.
+Death Made Tangible 😜 the data would fit just fine. It's the games engine and architecture on a 32 bit system, due to the massive open world the rendering alone of many interiors would have back then surely caused a lot of frame loss even on beefy pc's in 01 as I remember Max Payne being the most graphically taxing game that year hands down and damn it was fun. Anyway, if they needed another disk the data would be stored locally for the disc you couldn't have inserted (why have a 12-200gb hdd right?). Just figured I'd clear that up for you gents. Cheers

They were still going with the same formula of GTA 1/2 but beefing it up with a real story and obviously the hardware and gameplay. Interiors were the last things on R's mind when they were creating the most revolutionary open world game ever conceived, and even attempting it probably made it one of the riskiest moves anyone made that year. Well that and....The other thing...

you should watch LotsOfS videos, he speedruns san andreas 100%, it takes over 14hrs single segment.. the level of memory and planning to know where and when to get 300+ items plus knowing all the glitches and general strats is unbelievable
I think I spent a few days on this run. It's not perfect but I was happy with it.

Outstanding. Well planned choreography. Was a tad nervous for you a couple of times, especially the dodo/bridge and getting back into the boat off the rock - and god knows how many times getting busted was a millisecond away. Would love to know how much effort you put into this. I will definitely try this, although NOBODY will beat your time. By the way, flying through the girders on the side of the lift section is much easier than dropping down from the top, also not as likely to burn up the Dodo, would have saved you 20 seconds or so.
I think I spent a few days working on this. It's not perfect, but was fun to try. Unfortunately my dodo flipped over so I had to run off the bridge. I'll try your method.

I used the same method to collect all 100 hidden packages before the first mission. I posted the glitch to youtube and it was one of my most viewed videos. Though I think that you posted this before I posted mine I did find this on my own.
That's cool. I learned the tunnel glitch to get to staunton on youtube before I did this.
I remember watching this in like 2013 and missing a few packages. Heh. Ill watch you again, paciently to do my 2nd 100%. Great run.
Is your disc scratched or broken? My gta 3 used to do that on the roads a lot at 0:40. My gta 3 used to crash when ever i had msx or rise fm on when it got old too.

yeah I did get my disc cleaned in 2005, but there are still some visual glitches sometimes.

@@EliteAvexation I've heard that you don't lose items in mobile, but mobile doesn't have the auto-save feature enabled while doing missions, so it would be a disaster in all platforms...

I left him there because that's where I come back to portland after getting the packages on the rocks in the water.
I used this as a guide. Just got all 100 thanks to you 11 years later in 2023. Nice speedrun, but also helpful. Thank you 💪🏼

I remember when I used to play this game...I completed the last mission where you follow the helicopter to Cochrane Dam and kill Catalina...I managed to find 97 hidden packages....and spent forever looking for the last 3. I'm quite sure the last one you got there on those rocks was one of those 3.

I'm 24 now, and I can happily say that about a year or so after I made that comment, I bought the game, played through it again and got all the packages. I can imagine that either this video or a handy map with the locations helped me along the way!

I entered that Cartel Cruiser, fell, spawned on a weird tunnel, moved forward, fell again and glitched into Staunton
Wafelwaffel it’s from a mission. I forgot the name but you have to follow a gruppe van from Staunton to pike creek and protect it from the cartel

Holy mother of loading times.
I measured with a stopwatch - in this video it takes almost 20 seconds from the moment he starts the game to the moment where the cutscene plays.
Now, in 2024, and on a modern PC with an m.2 SSD it takes exactly 3 seconds to load the game, which is almost 7 times faster. Insane.

I was following your guide until u flew the dodo, then I was like "Oh hell NAW!!!"
You can drive the Dodo to the bridge. Drive fast along the bridge and yank the joystick back near the broken section and the Dodo will fly straight up and can be landed on raised bridge section. Then you park up near the package and jump on the back wheel and then jump at the package platform.

i always get the reinforcer, park it in the garage in a weird ancle and glitch my way through it, i land on a side walk uner neight the map and walk for a couple minutes

I used this video as a guide. For anyone doing the same i highly recommend to fly up the dodo at the bridge for package #96.
Would have been much better if you would have parked 8 ball in the diner parking lot or in a tunnel or something instead of just in the open road. LOL
Is it any possible to collect all the packages after the first mission? Or does it have to be during the start of the first mission?

How did you manage to fly the Dodo? Whenever I try to fly it, I only manage about 6 seconds, and that's over dry land. I always die when I fly over water.

Just to know, what happens if you die or get busted in the process? The mission restart and you still have the package that you collected or no? Don't think i ever failed the 1st mission so i don't know what happens in that case, guess it just restart but i wanna know if you loose packages or what.. congrats for the run
