The number of combinations: you need to count every tile by type first; there are 2-yellow, 2-orange, 3-pink, 3-blue. Then the formula follows: 10!/(2! x 2! x 3! x 3!) = 25200 permutations. If all 10 tiles were unique, you would get 10! permutations: 3628800.

Swapping the positions of blocks of the same color does not meaningfully change the arrangement, but swapping the positions of blocks of different colors will meaningfully change the arrangement. So you take the number of ways all 10 blocks could be arranged, and divide by the product of the ways just blocks of each same color can be arranged. Incidentally, just 10! is 3,628,800; just over 3 and a half million, even still very well shy of a billion like you were thinking. But 25200 arrangements is definitely still a lot to consider even a fraction of xD
I think you were overthinking with your solutions (which I also struggle with lol) but if you look at the pieces, you can see that each starting point has different endpoints that they can lead to, the far most entries only have 2 possible ends, the next entry over has 3, next has 4, and the center two can end anywhere. If you pick up on patterns like this, puzzles can go from *super difficult* to just a quick mental challenge pretty easily. The video was still great tho, and I enjoyed watching your thought process :)

15:35 literally just said the top one was interchangeable with the blue, then had a problem with the blue one. Was so close to the solution that he said it out loud 😂
I had paused the video (at 12:58 ish) to figure the puzzle out. I started yelling at my monitor "you almost got this just swap the pink and blue and you're golden!" T-T and then he took it all apart. I'm glad that he did end up getting it in the end.

This seems like you could mess it up if you are too slow pulling the gate out. The balls on the left would start early and possibly collide when they aren't supposed to, or not collide when they ARE supposed to. It could knock a ball into a different channel. They should have had the gate spring loaded to pop up at the flick of a level, so it quickly pops straight up and all the balls are released at exactly the same time.
There are 10! combinations or 3628800, n! stands for factorial which means if n = 5, the result is 5*4*3*2*1 = 120 and if 10! = 10*9*8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1 = 3628800.
