    Which wheels do you prefer? How come?

  • @berttroubleyn3475

    I actually prefer the 19 inch wheels. Apart from the benefits you've listed, they also are less vulnerable to kerb rash (higher tire wall for protection), they make less road noise, it is easier to find good winter tires for them and they are a lot cheaper to replace when worn.

    You forgot to mention that the 21 inch rims crack constantly and it’s 2000 to replace them the car weighs so much that the rims can’t handle the weight so when you hit a pot hole or speed bump anything small it can crack the rim

    This was a great informative comparison of the wheels. Thanks!!!

    Good comparison. I have both 19 & 21 for my Model S. 19” for long cross country/continent road trips (lower cost, better range and durability)
    Also carry jack and full 19” spare as I travel in many remote places.
    21” for in town or short trips. Tesla turbine still my favourite look
    Buying new S now I’d order with 19” and then buy a pair of used 21”

      Where do you store the 19” wheel in your S?

    • @danwettlaufer6364
      @danwettlaufer6364 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In the rear trunk.
      If I have the rear seats folded down to haul other items or sometimes I like, travelling with the rear seats down for better rear window, visibility I put a strap over the tire to keep it stable.

      19 and 21 uses the same rim?

    • @danwettlaufer6364
      @danwettlaufer6364 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rickmiranda8183 no the rims are different 19 inches width thicker tires with higher sidewalls, and 21 inch rims have smaller, sidewalks , or skinnier.
      If I’m super road tripping with the 21s
      I take 2 - 19 wheels - should have the same size rim on the same axle.

    I want to buy a 2022 Model S used. The best deal I could find comes with 21" wheels, but I want the 19" wheels. Where would you recommend going about finding 19" wheels to purchase to replace them, and where do you recommend I should go to sell the 21" wheels I'm going to have without much purpose?

    • @BrandonDriver
      @BrandonDriver  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Facebook. Find a Tesla owner’s club in your city, post on there that you want the smaller wheels. Someone will have them and be down to do the swap at the service center. Find that person before you buy the 2022 S

    I opted for the Model S with the 19" wheels, with delivery day on Dec 20th! I have seen lots of videos about rotating tires, but isn't the rear tires wider on the rear vs the front (285 vs 255) for the Model S or is that just on the Plaid? I am ordering Winter tires and trying to figure out what width tires I need. It will be easier when the car is in my garage! Cheers

    I am a new 2021 Tesla model S long range owner. I've found that the steering system is a recurring problem, I get a loud clunk when turning the wheels hard, like when coming out of your driveway, or just doing a slow hard turn in a parking lot. On the road in normal driving, all seems normal. I took it in for a check up, tesla said they changed an upper control arm, but the problem persists. Im told this is a common problem.....maybe doing a short video about this problem might be of interest, since it involves many model S LR owners? Like your channel and how you approach subjects, keep it up.....

      Latest report about steering, I took it to the Peabody service Ctr. They replaced the upper ball joint and tie rod. That fixed the problem. They also changed the yoke steering wheel (it had wear spots showing through) with a newly designed yoke, it has a different fabric covering that shouldn't wear through so easily. I am happy with the model S long range and look forward to the next model S change.

    Nice review. My 19” were silver and an illusion to make them look more like 21” is to paint them black or even plasti dip. Removable (If you don’t want to commit to black)
    No silver/black contrast, so similar look at low cost.

    Surprised you never mentioned how heavy the 21 inch Arachnid wheels are! You could easily save 10 pounds of unsprung weight per wheel by opting for a different forged 21” wheel, including Martian wheels. The cars handling would improve the lighter wheels.. I’m looking at an S Plaid and will stick with the standard 19 inch wheels but substitute Martian 19 inchers which save about 6 pounds per wheel. Then use the stock wheels to mount Winter tires.

    The 21 inch arachnids are gangsta until you move to Pittsburgh. If you have money to burn on tires, the larger rim does look nice, but for daily driving and better efficiency in all seasons, 19" Tempest wheels.

    I'll take the 19" wheels anyday, mostly because I can't even afford a Tesla right now anyways and it is my dream car. I rented a model 3 performance with FSD, and it was the best fun experience of driving I have ever had. Currently, my credit sucks. I am practically maxed out on all my credit cards, but I have never missed a payment in 6 years on 9 credit cards. But yet I still have very bad credit. Such bs. This is what holds me back from buying a Tesla
