One of THE best things I have seen on TH-cam this year! The attention to detail is mind blowing! THANK YOU!!
I'm saving this video in my matte painting playlist for further studying.
This truly is an incredible tutorial, keep up the great work Didier!
I love these sort of matte paintings. I worked on this indie film Dreaming of a White Doomsday so I was ready to do a full on apocalyptic town (yeah it's really a cliche but... hey?!" but all I had to do was to 2D paint a abandoned grey dirt covered plain and some "White Cliffs of Dover" like structures for the foreground.
Another shot I just had to put in a wooden collapsed building -- which was fun because the location manager asked during the screening: "Where's this shot?" The director said: "Are you kidding me, that's the lumberyard where we snuck in on Sundays!"
-"I can't recall that house there?!"
"Seriously dude? That's mattepainted and comped in by Ray!"
And I did some snowy set extensions.
I like doing 3D as well but it takes SOOOOO much more time than just doing a 2.5D projection.
I enjoyed a lot while I was watching this work
Shout out from Egypt
Thankyou so much for explaining the process and the thought process as well 😍

Awsome!!
Glad you liked it.

Great video. Highly appreciated. For future reference, the background music sometimes makes it hard to hear the commentary.
Carbon based lifeforms ❤️
I am always worried about the copyrights when i do that type of work. How do i stay in the legal zone when i mix images?
Use your own images.
Take your own photos, find free pictures (non copyright) on the websites, or pay small amount of fee on sites like gettyimage.
How did you create that sunrise? What did you use to create that effect?
I still dont kknwo how u use the same alpha channel on the taxi^^............can somebody help out?
Hey do you take the photos yourself ? Cause I'm having a real hard time finding some city images on the internet.. And fitting everything to the perspective.
Where would i be able to buy/download PNG's of foliage like the ones used in this video?
Can you provide us the link of those resources you've used.... Thank you in advance 🙂

Hi! Here just wondering where did you get those ripped clothes! Trying to find out something similar but no success so far!
Great tutorial, don't need the background music.
What is the music? It's very calming.
Hammock
I AM LEGEND
How many layers you had when you built this matte painting ?
how can find the file ? plants car and etc
Not a matte painting, strictly speaking, is it? You couldn't have this as a background in a movie and it be believable as the actual background - which is what matte paintings are used for. Yours is a concept painting.
