I love this piece, not only that there is so much going on, but the artist takes pictures and puts them in in the piece, but that does not make them a slacker for using others works for their own, but uses it as a skeleton for something completely original and amazing!

tutorial for what ?? xd i mean its more about randomness and having an eye for composition xd . only things he could prob explain are the different layers (but thats explained in kinda every tutorial out there thats related to digital painting) and how he made the shadows of the people(copy peoples outlines , mirror them , adjust transparency and angle etc.) . keep the corners dark and the high"lights" lighted . though i never used digital painting i guess thats about all the techniques he used , the rest is training and (lets call it) talent .
PS if im wrong , correct me :) (like i said i never did it , im only drawing a bit with a pencil from time to time and that not really good .P ) so it might be more complex than i think )

@L1qu1d S1lenc3r everything in existence has a reason. its called causality. my point is that you cant wish for a "tutorial" when from a non subjective perpektive, none of his reasons make any sense for other subjective perspectives. there is no "tutorial" for this vid which can explain which photograph you should use to give the sidewall of the house a better texture. it just needs to fit. so from a "not the artist" perspektive, it could have been anything (aka random)

Photomanipulation is closer to collage. In photobashing, the photos serve as bases and augmentations to the painting itself- and the vast majority of the image is rendered through painting. In photomanipulation, the painting serves to blend the photos together better, and the vast majority of the image is constructed through the photos being pulled together.

Thanks for the explanation and I agree.
Photo-manipulation or collage as some may call it, photobash serves as technique to get imagery out of the head, many designers use it because it's fast and efficient. However, it has to be use carefully. It takes fundamentals to pull it off and most importantly to look at the photo ref not as what they are but breaking them down into simple shapes information, then uses it in the design process. Finding useful design from abstraction. It's quick but it opens up to many mistakes as well, not to mention using copyrighted ref illegally.
Look back on this work, I can find out there are many areas that can be improved. But in an art team, it's clear enough for everyone to look at and keep discussion going.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, and clearly you know nothing about concept art. The level of skill to do this is no less than the level required to paint it from scratch, the only difference is one way is hugely time consuming and the other isn't, but the end result would be exactly the same. This is how environment painting is done by the best concept artists in the world where high detail and realism is required. Calling it a collage is both ignorant and insulting.

I've never seen this type of work before but it seems completely different than painting it from scratch. I doubt the end result would be the same unless they're really good at painting in general.

The whole time while watching this I loved the athmosphere the place gave off...I legit almost started crying because it gave me such an odd but weirdly comforting feeling.
And then the other part of me said: ''H O W?!'' every 10 seconds...I was and still am AMAZED! How do you even BEGIN to learn this?! It's amazing....

If the COVID situation gets better, I recommend visiting Taiwan. Some of these works is inspired from my daily life walking the streets in Taiwan. It has this chaotic order while telling a story. I will definitely travel more when I'm able to do so.

I'm really trying to learn the basics of environment painting but workflow and efficiency i guess you could say is really important to me (time is of the essence! I have a lot to learn).
I think people might mistake this as short-cutting in some way which couldn't be further from the truth. The application of the fundamentals which I'm currently learning about here is done so well and as someone who wants to learn but also create a lot of different things this is just so awesome! (The perspective, the lighting and color choice and composition just to name a few).
Just like time is important when creating concept art for studios and clients, i think the approach can be applied to learning as well. I'm excited now :)
    Thanks so much for sharing.
