Yeah, i mean hyperbole aside, that probably was a big reason we never got a western bluray in the first place. There are tons of old shows that never get re releases just because of their opening themes and stuff being under copyright.
To add to the whole "Eva bad western release back in the day" Adv attained the anime in 1996, during its Japanese reairing. Mid release of the dubs production they found out they produced newer versions of episodes(ep.21-24). Adv requested those and and also the movies I think and suddenly the were charging too much more and making them sign new contracts. Which is why there's like a 5 year time gap between the dubs and why different actors were in it and probably why manga entertainment got the film and not adv. They basically were given the lower quality version of the show on purpose.
For me not having the og dub and fly me to the moon immediately made me not want to buy the blu ray as I like to have the option and if I wanted to pay like $200 for the old dub I’d just buy the original dvds I hate their price for the only release of the old dub and I am more mad that they didn’t even give me it as a option for the show on iTunes so yea I’m just going to keep pirating the show until I can get a easily accessible blu ray release of the show with fly me to the moon the original dub as a option Idc if the Netflix dub is also there as long as the og dub is a option and that’s about it I’d like to have the og dub be at least easily accessible version I think that people should have the right to choose what version they want to watch and what version they prefer so when I found out that the version I wanted to own was on the more expensive release and only on that release I’d at least be happier if it was on iTunes but I guess I was being too hopeful

Just picked up the standard blu-ray set yesterday at Walmart. While far from perfect, I definitely found it to be solid overall. Yeah, being the F.S fan I am in disappointed about "Fly me to the moon". But what can you do. I know Gkids had to have gone through absolute hell to get the rights to this series and I am definitely grateful. Gen Fukunaga was right, shame critics just laughed him off. Doubt they're laughing now...
So basically ladies and gentlemen buy the collectors edition and ultimate edition (fly me to the moon isn’t included cos it was copyrighted and back in the 2000 rules were less strict, nor is the original adv extras) it has full screen eoe film in glorious hd 16:9 and tv series looks fantastic.

AND THEY DIDN'T!! I was so happy they didn't fuck that up, so I'm satisfied, it was cheap and it's Evangelion :)

Funny enough, I have a bootleg of the Japanese blurays, which has the original English dub (with sub) as well as Fly Me to the Moon. My bootleg blurays of the series/movies are BETTER than the actual legal blurays we got recently. That's sad.

I have a feeling this release will be way better visually than the dvd by a significant amount visually speaking not taking into the account its missing the song and I think they fixed the movie in this one at least reading there replies on Twitter and there's always the platinum collection for the song and more widely available release is better than spending 200 dollars on a dvd

The only Eva DvD’s I own are volumes 02 and 03 of Platinum, containing ep 6-14 (still ADA Dub and Fly me to the moon) but I found them for very cheap at a used bookstore and am happy to own them! 🫶 Anyway, rlly liked your video, it made me laugh 🙏 you have a chill vibe despite being upset
Idk why you think the adv dub is superior when we’re just going to watch it in Japanese anyway. The adv dub had so much weird translations as well as weird studio liberties made to the end of Evangelion.
I think it’s mainly nostalgic bias. Many Eva fans first experienced the series via Adv. I honestly like the dub fine, mistranslations and some overacting aside. The OG Japanese with English subtitles is the way to experience Eva though

Super dope right? Well, it's gonna be P Bandai... and it's only on the Japanese site. Ok, well at least I can get the actual regular release kit coming out next quarter... Yeah, about that. We may send a few to your country, so good luck? Also, that release is for Japan. The release date in the US is a year later. I could go on, but now I'm more disgusted with myself for spending so many hours searching, having pre-orders cancelled or unfulfilled, trying to just order from Japan and having the shipping be twice the cost of the kit, that I think I'll just go back to crying and shaking in the corner. That and building anime girl kits because I have lost all self respect after buying a fucking 'shopping bag accessory kit' for the latest forever alone model kits I'm into. I used to have friends, have fun, a healthy sex life.... Now I only have depression or mania................. I'm going back to hard drugs
I made the mistake of not looking at the specs of the standard Blu-ray Edition. My only info was based off the specs of the deluxe edition. I'm almost 40 and I'm too busy at my job to look at these damn specs. As soon as I bought the Blu-ray, I was less than an hour from selling the original DVD black box set (pre platinum edition.) I am glad I previewed the Blu-ray before I made that regretful decision. If only I had dug deeper into the standard Blu-ray specs, I would not have bought it. G-Kids, that's pretty f****** scummy to have anyone spend an extra $200 just to get the original dub. Bells and whistles be damned.
As far as I know its pretty great. Its just the original show on a sick bluray set but its all in japanese. So if you can understand Japanese, it seems pretty great
The standard and collector's edition come out in Australia tomorrow, and I went and caved for the collector's edition, not because I care about the dub, but because case 02 says "classic dub and sub" and I'm sitting her thinking what the hell "classic sub" means. Like- does it have a different translation from the standard version?????
Couple months late but yeah. The "Classic" discs use the Platinum Subtitle translation from ADV, which is generally considered the best for the show, and Manga's Subs for the two films, which are alright. The "Official" discs use the new Netflix Subtitle translation from the streaming release, done with an in-house translator from Khara themselves. Either set is fine, but the Platinum subs are still generally considered the Gold Standard.
I’m so happy that I have both the perfect and platinum collections Of Eva. Plus I’m very happy that I imported the 20th anniversary Blu-ray box set back in 2015 so worth $200

Physical media "crystallizes" a show though. Putting what is essentially an incomplete product out there on blu-ray just feels odd.
