DOON is the reason I think Rajeev gandhi established navodaya vidyalaya. And it's a fantastic concept, they also have their alumni network and I feel in certain aspects it is stronger than Doon network.

Having studied in an elite boarding school I can vouch that my NIT engineering brings better connect & progressional network than my school network. However, the sports & co-curricular activities I learnt still holds me in good stride.

I'm from Welham. It's BS that it will open up professional opportunities...you need to get by on merit like everyone else. It does provide you with exposure and a social network, yes - if you bother to maintain ties post graduation. Again, this, one needs to do with any alma mater.

The architecture that should remind people of their country's subjugation and countless atrocities done on their ancestors, here, people are instead find it appealing. Absolutely appalling. And the fuck you mean by saying that children talking in their mother tongue was a 'problem' that has been amended?

As an Indo- Carribean living in The Netherlands, these elite boarding schools look very cringe. I would say, being an elite in a post-colonial state is about excelling in good education (secular and democratic) and respecting ones own culture and traditions at the same time (cultural, nationbuilding), not imitating the British.... Good education is about how you reproduce the already existing information and contribute to it by your own conduct, not doing cricket in tight white jeans and riding a horse with your buddies..... India is a REPUBLIC right? Then what have these European inspired aristocratic 'traditions' to do with EDUCATION. sooo cringe....

When rajiv gandhi was the pm, he has created free boarding schools for the poorer section of the economy. Jawahar navodaya vidyalayas. It has given quality education free of cost and i am proud to be an alumni of the same.

I am from Indian School Muscat, the same school as Mahesh Bhupathi while my brother and sister are from Indian School, Al Ghubrah and our cousin Ranjit is from Lawrence School Lovedale. All 3 of These Schools focused on Integrated Education including during Holidays as well as on Extracurricular Activities (Sports, Debates, DEAS, Round Square Conference and so on).
Ranjit was the Topper and Best All-Rounder from Lawrence School Lovedale, just like his dad Wing Commander Joseph Thomas. Wing Commander Joseph Thomas went on to be the Topper and Best All-Rounder at NDA too before serving within the Indian Air Force and also as a US Test Pilot. His son, Ranjit Thomas CFA, went on to being the Topper and Best All-Rounder from IIT Madras and IIM Calcutta before he became the Project Leader at Boston Consulting Group 1st in Mumbai before moving over to NY. He also became the Vice-President in Equity at Swiss Re Capital in New York before becoming the Senior Partner at Tracer Capital in New York where today he has his own hedge fund in USA while also being an invigilator for CFA and Professor of Practice at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School where he never studied in the US (Ranjit was good with the stock markets as a child itself though he studied engineering at IIT too). Ranjit's wife Pramita Saha is from Wharton Business School of University of Pennsylvania where she's the Executive Director and Professor at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Sis went on from Indian School Al Ghubrah on Scholarship to WUSTL (Washington University at St Louis) where she was on the Dean's List for Finance Major and Accounting Minor. From there, she went to do her Masters at Vanderbilt University again on Scholarship where she was an Honors Student with Finance side. After that, she worked with Deloitte as Senior Finance Manager starting with Atlanta, then in Hyderabad within the US Deloitte Office at Hyderabad before she landed back in Chicago after 1 and a half years in India. She worked for More than 11 Years for Deloitte as Senior Finance Manager where she is still working in Chicago as Senior Finance Manager for 1 of US' Leading Health Insurance Firms.
Bro studied at VIT University for Engineering and then at University of Southern California again for Engineering before starting his work experience in Atlanta within the Business Intelligence and Database Programming sides before shifting over to Chicago. He's now working as Senior Leader within the Business Intelligence and Database Programming side for the Chicago Branch of 1 of US' Leading Health Insurance Firms though he works mostly from Houston via Remote work.
I had a Double Background during school days - major in business and minor in computer science where I went on to study at 4 Universities starting in India with Bachelors with Major in Accounting, Masters in Information Tech, Graduate Diploma in Info Tech Management and close to Masters with Major in Marketing - 1 of those Universities is USyd. Have been within the Worlds of Digital Marketing and Information Technology.
Now, is EDUCATION the Most Important OR is it LEARNING? The HIGHEST WEIGHT goes to Skills and Experience FOLLOWED then by Education.
Within Education, SILOS/STREAMS are USELESS in 21st Century where 1 Needs INTEGRATED EDUCATION of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences. INDIA is Definitely Good with Natural and Formal Sciences with Focus on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science BUT Way Behind in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Even Though INTEGRATED EDUCATION has been on Rise in India Too in Recent Times But Still Way Behind.
Also, 1 needs Research Studies in the INTEGRATED EDUCATION which 1 SHOULD GET FROM THE TIME THEY ARE TODDLERS where Kids are Encouraged to Observe Their Environment while Playing while Teachers and Parents Should Share That Research Knowledge with Kids from The Time They are Toddlers and Encourage Kids to be Curious (My brother's daughter was taught couple of different types of energy like potential energy, kinetic energy, etc by the time she was around 2 to 3 years old with examples too where she was told the definition also. My sis-in-law tested her where she told what each type of energy were with examples too. Niece is doing the Gifted Program).
In addition to these, Peer to Peer Collaborative Learning should be there especially during 2nd Half of Primary Education and Especially during Secondary Education where Kids are Encouraged to be Curious, Observe Their Environment, Learn from Their Surroundings as Well as from Books, Research Articles, Case Studies, Videos, etc and Not Just from 1 or Few Textbooks where They Teach Each Other Instead of Just Learning from Teachers where Peer to Peer Collaborative Learning Happens Right from Primary and Secondary Education.
THESE ARE FEW AREAS WHERE INDIA IS BEHIND WHILE VOCATIONAL STUDIES/EXPERIENCE is Another 1 which is why Many Well-To-Do Indians have Gone Abroad for Better Education as JUST Silos/Streams Not Enough, JUST Natural and Formal Sciences Not Enough ESPECIALLY WHEN 21ST CENTURY INNOVATIONS NEEDS INTEGRATED EDUCATION + QUALITY SKILLS + QUALITY EXPERIENCE Too (Highest Weight is on Quality Skills and Quality Experience Followed Then by Good Education of Integrated Education of Natural Sciences, Formal Sciences, Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences WITH RESEARCH WITH COLLABORATIVE PEER TO PEER LEARNING Right from the Time 1 is a Toddler and Vocational Studies/Learning from the Time 1 is around 13 Years Old - THAT'S WHERE SATYA NADELLA HAS BEATEN SUNDAR PICHAI where Sundar Pichai has fallen behind while Satya Nadela has Neither IITs nor is from a Top US University though Satya Nadella like Sundar Pichai have Their Highest Education from USA)

Well, where does Culture come from? Poor? Nope. Answer is Elites. Culture of Food, Clothing, Educational Systems, Beliefs, Religions, Values, Architecture, Other Arts, Engineering and Tech and so much more - All Started with the Elites while the Rest Followed Those Cultures. "Ten Thousand Years of Inequality: The Archaeology of Wealth Differences" is 1 Book while another book is "The Creation of Inequality: How Our Prehistoric Ancestors Set the Stage for Monarchy, Slavery and Empire" and yet another book is "The Journey of Humanity: The Origins of Wealth and Inequality"- NOBODY FOLLOWS CULTUES of Food, Clothing, Educational Systems, Beliefs, Religions, Values, Architecture, Other Arts, Engineering and Tech and so much more a Lot from the Lower Income Groups of Any Nation for 1000s of Years as We Have All Been Following the Cultures of Food, Clothing, Educational Systems, Beliefs, Religions, Values, Architecture, Other Arts, Engineering and Tech and so much more from the Elites for 1000s of Years Anywhere in the World

Not a great supporter of boarding schools, you are taking a kid away from the family and society in it's budding years. It disconnects the cultural upbringing of the child. Even from career point of view, you will hardly find a boarding school passout in colleges like IIT/NITs....because they are staying in silos and not exposed to real world competition. So other than defence forces not much advantage is gained.
With more more inmates coming from small cities and towns and from not so anglicised families, one earlier expectation of developing the kid into an English speaking very polished person is also not there. Not much advantage overall....but ofcourse it depends on individual.

There is no Brown, White, Black, Red, Yellow Race, etc. The Races are Aryans (Indo-Europeans), Semites (Yehudis-Arabs), Negroid, Mongol, Turks, etc. A Mongol can be lighter than a European. In fact the Aryan Race is indigenous to the Northwestern Indian subcontinent and merged Central Asia and then moved Westwards and Southwards. A True Aryan does not look up on any one or look down on any one. Aryans can be brown like in Sothern Iran, Southern Europe parts of India such as the Punjab, etc. This is due to harsh climate. The Aryans of Northwestern Indian subcontinent and Central Asia are often lighter than Europeans. I was posted in Kashmir Valley.

Well, 600 million Indians still cannot access Internet where it's rest of 1.4-1.5 Billion Indians who can access it and read different types of news via hardcopy or soft copy here - this news is for some of them. Education is for the upper classes worldwide which is still a luxury for many and that includes many of the aspects of learning, not just via education too (Modern days, more people are getting educated but still learning including education including quality goes to the upper classes a lot compared to lower-incomes unless 1 is very talented where merit situation works but in many nations including India, the merit system is still a challenge. Not many students with scholarship do well as need more including wealth, networking, etc too while just couple of talented people from poorer backgrounds have done well worldwide).

For proof of the above figure, 1 can look at the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Kantar Study that was released under the Economic Times and rest of Indian Media about 2 weeks ago where it states "45% of Indians still do not access Internet" - 45% is actually more than the 600 Million stated above out of 1.4-1.5 Billion Indians
