      I want a PSA S7201 Review/comparison to a dual setup. I'm toying with getting the S7201 for a 3 Sub system, perhaps with dual PB-4000's in the front. Unless I build my diy custom Sub with the TC Sounds LMS5400 Titanium QVC 18 Driver, 4000wRMS Plate Amp, and the Cabinet that I had PWK Designs (Hexibase) design for me.

    • @dickfantastic7908
      @dickfantastic7908 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Len_M. have the S7201 in my living room. It replaced a PB-13 ultra, which now resides out in my garage. Here are my thoughts.
      First thing I noticed was SQ, the S7201 hits so damn clean I've never heard anything like it. I was honestly a bit worried about a sealed sub not hitting as hard. Well, if that's true then the 4 subs and 4000 watts make up for a lack of port boost and cut out all of the phase issues. I used to think that stuff was hooey, I've ran ported subs for years in home and in cars, sounded great to me. The PB13 now sounded like a fartbox.
      First thing I did with the Ultra in the garage was plugged the ports for the first time ever and tried to enjoy it. It sounded better with the ports plugged for sure, but was nowhere near what the S7201 could do. Obviously. So I ordered a PSA S3010 B-stock (light scratches) to couple with the Ultra out in the garage.
      All things considered on paper they should be roughly equal. The S7201 is in the corner of my living room, and in my open-floor plan ranch style home, it has to energize the whole house. It does this like nothing else I've experienced in my life. My floor moves up and down, my eyeballs vibrate. No bass is ever missed, skipped or compressed.
      Out in my single car garage, these 2 subs don't even come close. On paper they really should, roughly 2700 watts of power and 43 inches of cone area in a much smaller space vs 4000 watts and 72 inches in a much larger one. Like I said, absolutely no comparison. S7201 all day long. I don't think you'll need to worry about the PB-4000's up front, but if you did I'd honestly just get a second S7201. I can't imagine what a pair of those would do.

      @@jondoe6618 I went to your channel and checked out what you have or seem to be using. You're one of those guys that sees how many subs they can run off of a cheap amp and thinks 50% distortion is "low bass".
      Really though, you spent more than $500 bucks. While you might be using an amp from 2010 and a decent one at that, it cost something in the first place. Around $500 new. Your subs had to cost something even if they are inexpensive ones. Then you have the necessary materials cost to build a box. And the all-important time factor. I don't know about you, but I get paid to work. I may enjoy building things, but it's still work, and the older I get I realize a lot of that stuff is just a waste of my time. You may think your time is free, but mine isn't. So I'll give you a pass on that one because maybe your time is not valuable.
      So, my fuzzy math without all of the factors being known is adding up to way more than a 1/5th of the cost, even if your time is free. Hence, you are talking out of your ass. Even if your sub did sound as good or better, you spent more than you said.

      Monoprice doesn't really design anything. They buy OEM and ODM goods and have them rebranded with Monoprice logos. In the case of the Energy knock-offs, what is clearly happening is Monoprice bought identical units from the same factory that Energy got their products from. That is not a reverse engineered product, that is from the same production lines. The problem is that the manufacturer was willing to sell the same product to other companies and that Monoprice was willing to bring to market designs that Energy held patents to. I am sure Monoprice would not have brought that product to market if they know that it could possibly infringe on design patents from other companies. My guess is Monoprice assumed that the OEM held the patents since it was willing to sell that same exact product rebranded for other companies.
      Monoprice mostly just buys premade items from foreign manufacturing or contracts design and manufacturing work from outfits like Claridy or ATI. They are not in the business of deliberately making knock-offs. If you want to ding a popular audio company for ripping off other design work, the worst-case offender has to be Behringer, although they seemed to be just using original design work in recent history. However, years ago, they ripped off al the engineering that they could.
