Man… another awesome film! Some of the best hits on dries I’ve had have been on damsel patterns. So cool! I can’t wait for another epic summer in those mountains!
Thanks man! It was a super fun project. I sat around filming bugs and fish far more than I fished which actually was super fun! And yeah when they get going on the damsels it can be wild!
@@GilbertRowley yes sir. Sometimes fish ignore single try fly and concentrate only on clumps. we have to tie a 3 or 4 dry damsels on a big loop knot, cut down hooks at the bend except for the one in the middle. Non stop action.
Beautiful work boys! I loved the closeups of the fish and the flies, such detail in both creatures. I also truly enjoyed how you progressed the fish from just barely coming to the surface to feed to eventually all the way out of the water. Thanks for the ride! Cheers!
Thanks Matt! Glad you enjoyed it! We had a really fun time telling the story of both the fish and the damsels. We felt blessed to have been in the middle of it all. It was quite the ride!
This is one of my favorite videos that you've made. It does feel wrong and uncomfortable when we make mistakes or things just don't go the way we want to out there, especially if you've convinced yourself that you're a great angler. This video really captures the beauty and magic that happens when a hatch intensifies. Great work and I'm looking forward to the next!
Very cool video. All your videos are pretty epic. I am envious of the locations and the quality of the fishing opportunities. More power to you brother.
It's all about getting out there. I never know which day or which moment something cool will happen. I've often said, "I'm never happier to be wrong." Great job capturing the moment.
Hey Gilbert! Just a heads up! I just watched this with a couple of my buddies and by the end of it they were talking all crazy and stuff. They said something about an - "extraordinary rendition"- and then mumbled something about - "water-boarding with cognac" - "until he spills the beans!" So if you see a couple of guy in waders with a crazy look in their eyes carrying a bottle of cognac - run the other way! Consider yourself warned! : ) Great job with this buddy. Awesome film. We all DREAM of an epic damselfly hatch like that and you not only found one - you filmed it so we could all enjoy it! Very cool!
Thanks man! Much of it was shot in the Sony FS5, including all the shots of fish jumping out and eating damsels. Other parts were shot with a Canon C70.
Hey Paul, thanks for the message. We actually have a strict policy not to ever discuss locations on social media and TH-cam. But if you're from Montana I'm sure there are places just as special as these close by. Have a great day!
I don't watch these videos to hear the overly loud, soaring uplifting music. Too many of them are like that, plus the person whose narrating is a "civilian", not a professional "voice". Had to stop watching. Sorry
Awesome film Gilbert, wonderful footage and OMG what a hatch!
Thanks so much, we were very blessed with an amazing opportunity! So much fun to fish and film that hatch!

Epic stuff, Gilbert! Those tiger trout are unreal!
Thank you! We found some tanks for sure. They were a lot harder to catch that what we depicted in the film ;-)
Simply beautiful cinematography! Beautifully shot.
Thank you, we appreciate the compliment! Happy to hear you enjoyed our film. Thanks!
Excellent work. I fish high lake and fished rainbows and Brookies during many damsel hatches. Very much enjoyed watching it.
Awesome! Sounds like you know how much fun it can be fishing this hatch!

@@luminepixels5437 love it! I’d love to see what that cluster looks like, sounds amazing!
Bravo! Excellent footage and some dandy tigers. Looks like I've left that lake alone long enough.
Thank you! We had to spend more time than expected to actually catch them… picky as always up there, but some nice fish for sure.
Maybe the best fly fishing videos I have ever seen!
Wow, thank you! That means a lot!
Some great footage in this one. Bravo!
Thank you, that’s very kind!
Visually stunning! Great short film
Thank you, we had a great time filming it!
Extraordinary cinematic skills displaying the best hatch of all, in the trout flyfishing world. Well done sir, well done.
Thank you, we really appreciate it! Much time went into this project, and we are super excited with how it turned out. Thanks!

Awesome work, Gilbert. Some of those shots are incredible
Thank you, I actually spent far more time filming than fishing in this one. So much fun to be a part of it all!

What kind of cameras do you use?
Sony’s mostly. Our current setup is the Sony FX6
Sweet vid! What camera did you use?

Utah?
Are they trout? Or char?
That’s a great question, actually they are an intergeneric hybrid of both. Salmo trutta x Salvelinus fontinalis
🎣🐟👍🏻
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

another trick when the fish won't take dry damsel.
pull it under then let it float to top

great vid, how did you know which insect to imitate? haha, insane numbers of damsels above the surface of the water
Haha, it was a head scratcher for sure 😉 One of the thickest damsel hatches I’ve ever seen!
Phil's son?
Nope, not related. But I know Phil and he is an excellent person and fisherman!
