    The leaders build more leaders approach does not work for me. My reason is that, after 15years in management, I have discovered that more than half of people don’t want to be a leader, they want to follow and be part of a steady-state environment. I appreciate the psychology of focusing on a leader being great in various aspects of their approach to management. I just continue to not be comfortable with the focus that everyone would want to model themselves as a leader.

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Interesting perspective. I do like it. One thing to consider is when I say leader, I don’t mean someone who manages a team. Individual contributors also lead. This qualities, not number of people on an org chart.

    I have recently got a new job. It was a two months long process with 6 interviews. My toughest interview was with the hiring manager in person where he said this is an informal chat and not an interview where I ended up having to run the entire interview/chat for over an hour.

    Andy she is humor appropriate? In my business I always feel the need to lighten up the tone with humor or charisma . I get too hung up on that sometimes it makes me lose my train of thought in formal interview or large meetings . When is it appropriate in the tell
    Me about yourself intro or during the interview if at all ?

    How do you stay calm and focused during a interview? The minute i start speaking any knowledge i have goes out the window cause my mind starts racing?

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Try staying present. I know that sounds cliche, but usually the reason nerves surface is because you’re focusing on the outcome (of getting we’re not getting the job). That’s what ultimately makes you nervous. Try to enjoy the interview.

    I've actually taken the time to look up the company and what they do/ produce. It didn't really help as much as I thought it would during interviews.

    Hello Andrew! I'm Nandita from Canada. Thank you so much for sharing, this is very helpful. Some organisations are now sending interview questions ahead of time. What can be expected as part of the questions ? And what is the rationale behind this ?

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nandita! Wonderful to hear from you. Sometimes employers are trying to streamline the process. Regarding what to expect, every employer is a bit different. There's no telling what they might ask, however, I would be prepared for the basic questions about why you want to leave your current company, why do you want to join them, etc. etc. Good luck!

    Interesting that the 'ethical' question arises and I wonder if one might consider that a 'red flag' when interviewing with a company or organization...Or is it a test of ones character. I really appreciate you Andy! This has been a great education for the last month or so, during my job search following a lay off. Be well.

    Andy! I totally had an employee from a company I had applied to call me out of the blue today, pretending to be an interested recruiter. It did not hit me until a few hours later that I had heard her voice before. I was way too casual, caught off guard, really. I am sure I would not ever work for that company now. How often have you heard of this happening? Many thanks :)

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not often. Also, I’m not even sure I understand why someone would do that (if I understood you correctly).

    • @kimsadowski4058
      @kimsadowski4058 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me either. I did feel, looking back with my business hat on, that they were under-resourced. My quick ruler is 150K-250K Gross Revenue per employee. If that seems in sync, I will inquire further.

    I've tried the positive response to the negative and leaving responses neutral. I had the interviewer respond by saying, "You don't always have to put a positive spin on everything." I responded by stating that I was answering the questions truthfully about what happened and how I dealt with it.
    Have either of you ever received that as a response? If so, what did you say?

    Question: I asked, "Might you share what onboarding looks like for this role," and, "Might you tell me what a typical meeting looks like?" of the recruiter. I was so impressed with her answer to both. However, no call back after 3 days. We only had 10 minutes, so I could only answer 2 Qs, why I left my last role, and, what my strengths are. Is it o.k to ask those first 2 Qs, of a recuiter?
