    I'd also suggest making smaller bags, and lay the pillies down flat in the vac bag in a single layer. That way you dont have to defrost all at the start of fishing, and when you do take them out they defrost quicker and also easier to break apart. Also keeps them nice n straight if fishing whole pillies ;)

      That’s a great idea. Next batch I will do it as a flat single layer for sure. Thank you

    There is also a seafood shop at blacktown that sells fresh pillies, you can bend the pillie from head to tail and it wont snap.. although it can be a hit n miss at times, their pillies when fresh is the best, i can reuse them and they'd still be good for next time.

    You will find with those small cheap vacum seal machines they tend to overheat after anywhere from 6-10 bags done. Usually you just need to wait about 5 or 10 mins so they cool down and they start to work again.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s cheap and I see issues coming soon with it if I keep using it but I might get a higher quality one once this one dies

      @SPIKES FISHING I would dare say your patience won't last as long as the machines life span, and will more likely upgrade before then

    Mel, I started laughing 7 seconds in when you were talking to the camera, you literally walked past the fish place in the background. I was like... Oi, its behind you, look back! LOL
    Good content.. well done. (apart from the South Sydney merchandise....jokes)

    That vac sealer should click down and lock. Take the roll out. I think its to thick to push down and lock. And sometimes ya need to leave time between they get hot and stop sealing till they cool down. Also i wipe the bag where it's gonna seal. The moisture from the bait stops the bags from sealing properly.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you I worked out the clicky thing after a few bags. Ahhh it makes sense I haven’t sealed anything with moisture yet but good to know ♥️

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew I don’t really use them but I could try make a video with it when the snapper thicken up. Me and lures have a love hate relationship. Pilly always takes over 🤤

  • @bennybfishn
    @bennybfishn ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ya should go directly to Sydney fish markets. I get bait fresh from there.

    The tray in the vacuum section is for when you are doing wet foods sometimes its will get sucked into the tray, it just makes it easier to clean. They aren't a bad machine for the money..occasionally aldi sells the bags cheaper than kmart, I buy a heap when they have them. Ebay sells rolls the cheapest I got 5 x 5m rolls for about $30 or less, just measure the maximum width your machine can take. $12kg is pretty pricey I would hit up East Coast bait supplies and grab 30kg next time.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah thanks for that info it would be a disaster if you didn’t tell me about the wet stuff. I’ll buy Aldi bags next time I go there if they have them. Thank you. I paid $10 per kg and these sardines are 100% primo which is rare these days. Where is the place you are talking about?

  • @Big_Boulders
    @Big_Boulders ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Should have gone to roselands. Probably same price
    That little tray that you're putting over the plastic needs to be underneath and the ends of the bag go into it. It's there to catch juices and marinades when vacuuming wet foods.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah thanks for the info one the roll thing I would have made a huge mess in the future if I didn’t know. Roselands had bad sardines last time I got from there because they defrost and re freeze. Might be better now but yeah wasn’t good last time

  • @Dave30867
    @Dave30867 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There are so many plastic products out there now its crazy i am starting to avoid buying anything made of plastic if possible it just dont last out it warranty anyway.

    • @fishmut
      @fishmut ปีที่แล้ว

      Mel …looking at the price of these things it soon adds up to a very expensive fishing , 300$ for 30kg yikes , have you thought about getting some bait jigs and doing a day on the water catching your own fresh bait ie yellowtails , I don’t know about bag limits on bait fish but I think if you got the time at least you know they definitely are fresh no questions asked when you caught them yourself , also catching bait can be a lot of fun not to mention the lovely squid makes great bait to .👍
