You actually went to rich people’s school...most schools in Ethiopia don’t have extracurricular and etc. but you made good use of your opportunity glad you enjoyed it
Exactly! ICS still remains the most expensive school in Ethiopia, starting currently at $10,850 per year for a child studying only half day in kindergarten to $33,670 per year for 11-12 grade student!
I fully agree. He was very blessed to be able to live there in his young life. I am sure he will never forget Ethiopia, its beautiful people and unique culture.
Unlike your friends in Germany before you came to Ethiopia; your parents provided you this experience in your high school years in Addis Abeba that will change your life's trajectory the rest of your life. I was born and was raised in poorer rural parts of Ethiopia. I came to NYC for college and even after forty seven years here in the U.S. I still have fond memories growing up in Ethiopia. Enjoy.
I'm glad you liked it, other countries do think that the education here is a very low standard, but it is way harder and than the US systems too. I graduated high school from Addis Ababa in 2019, and joined an American University, comparing it, our high school is too harder, and it helped a lot. haha.
I really enjoyed your video. You are a very adaptable and positive thinking young German. I like how you speak fondly of Ethiopia. You were very blessed being able to live in this special country.
this just popped up on my youtube home page! i also went to ICS from 2013-2018! it's crazy to see another ICS student randomly show up in my recommendations
I went to high school in Ethiopia too (Gibson Youth Academy) and at first, not knowing a single word of Amharic was overwhelming! Thank goodness I quickly adapted, made lots of friends and enjoyed my time in Addis and in Ethiopia. Cannot wait to be back ❤️🇪🇹🇪🇹
No matter which country we all come from, we are all connected in some ways/shape / form. The desire to explore other places / country we have never been before will only enrich our life a lot more than those who only studied about the place without having visited it. My advise is keep exploring the world!! & all the best!
Als Äthiopischer in deutschland lebe , freue mich ein deutsches kind die Äthiopische Erfahrung sehr direkt und faktisch darstellt. Ich wünsche dir alles Gute und Glück in deinem Leben.
dude don't complain. You went to a top school. The school I went to was very poor, and I didn't have any library and lab, but I was a top-notch student.
Good video. A rare, honest perspective. Ethiopia is hard to leave for any one. The pull of the land and the culture. The bliss will always be there. Only the economy needs work.
what did you do when the internet went out though? How would you complete your assignments? - (from someone who is going to live in ethiopia soon and is worried lol)
When I was a child there was a German school for German diplomats. Some Ethiopian rich people also sent their children just for fun. There must be no more.
@@PaulExplains Why didn't your parents send you there instead? Just curious, since you are German, and I'd assume you would've felt more at home there, you know.
Also was ist mit dein Abi?
Money is not everything, but money is something very important. Beyond the basic needs, money helps us achieve our life's goals and supports the things we care about most deeply family, education, health care, charity, adventure and fun. ... But, of course money has its own limitations too. Peace ♥ Love
Wow, did not know Ethiopia had such advance educational institutions comparable to the US and western countries. You motivated me to go to Zanzibar some day😀👍
Lol there's just a few and they cost a shit ton. Most of us can't even afford more than old used laptops when we get to college, let alone pay for schools like these during high school. Ethiopia is a poverty-stricken, ethnically divided, sexist, homophobic country and is literally going through a civil war right now. It's not gonna help anyone to only focus on the very little "good" we have.
@@mhretabbirhanu3031 Hi Mhretab, everyone knows Ethiopia is a developing country. My reaction was to the video and does not take away from your personal experience. Having said that, for you use those broad brush like you did about a whole country - sexist, and all other ism is just plain generalization and wrong. Don't lose hope and I agree the need to focus on the good things for now. We all make the best of what we've do we have control over. Until recently, Ethiopia was a promising developing place but it is facing its challenges at the moment and hopefully it will overcome it.
I don't think you get his point! that's actually a great intro....whether we like it or not...that is the prejudice of the whole world of Ethiopia ( poverty, hunger, crime, and donation...)....Anyways he saying he from society that believe that way but his experience of life in Ethiopia (while he was going try high school) says another way! Ethiopia has changed a lot yes still t poverty is there. But the country has made a Great Leap Forward in every aspects of development your video focused only on slum areas to fit your stereotypical narration of destitute and poverty i! We do have eye catching beautiful places too.
Am crying😓like literally crying I tried to get an ICS scholarship as an Ethiopian student who got 99.5% on 8th grade national exams but couldn't get in cause I felled the interview😭😭😭😭and you popped up as if the universe is really against me

Who told this guy the area was cut off from the world until the 1990’s? 🤣
He doesn’t know Abyssinia has a seat at the German conference 🤣.

when you talk about the IB program It sounded like my UWC high school is Swaziland.
Yes, indeed you were really lucky going to school at ICS. I would call it the best school in East Africa for the reasons you pointed out so well.
