I’m trying to perfect my scarab god deck. It’s hard to pick just 10 so I think you guys did great. I think you’ve convinced me to pick up a grim grin and put Mikeaus back in the line up

My problem with the scarab god is the cost of summon. No matter what I do, I ended up using all of my resources to keep the scarab in the battlefield alive. Each time I tried to summon it, they either; counter, exile, destroy, and take control. I didn’t even get the chance to use it abilities or attack.
Imo, I think high costs commanders not worth getting. Yea they have better skills and power, but not worth it if u can’t keep ‘em in the battlefield. Especially when u have to used up most of ur resources to summon, and making sure it stays in the battlefield. Your better off with 4 or less costs of commanders.
yeah, i totally get this. I find myself rarely reaching for commanders with 5 or more CMC, unless it's green and I can ramp fast.
Play more mana rocks, ramp spells and cost reduction(there are artifacts that lower casting costs like jet medailon)and load your deck with cheap counterspells. Here you go. You can make it work pretty effectivly. You just have to invest a bit and build around the high cost.
Zombie Trailblazer can be very versatile and a win con, useful in pretty much every zombie deck.
Missing the pingers (Plague Belcher, Diregraf Captain, Vengeful Dead) is an oversight, they are the main win condition for most zombie decks.
My list would be:
1. Gravecrawler
2. Cryptbreaker
3. Undead Augur
4. Plague Belcher
5. Vengeful Dead
6. Noxious Ghoul
7. Carrion Feeder
8. Diregraf Colossus
9. Archghoul of Thraben
10. Fell stinger
These cards will always make all of my zombies lists. Honorable mention to Diregraf Captain and Wilhelt the Rotcleaver, they would easily make the top 10 if they were mono black.
The only controversial exclusions I think might be Gary and Mikeaus, both mono black. They might be more powerful in a vacuum than some of these picks, but I can see lists that don't focus around reanimate shenagins not running Gary (infact my Wilhelt excludes Gary). I could also see skipping on Mikeaus if you want to lower your curve, if you're playing 3 colors or if your building on a budget.
The pingers are great, tons of awesome zombies didn’t make the list. But the pinging effect isn’t unique to zombies and a lot of them are even better. bastion of remembrance, ayara, blood artist etc.. you do have a rock solid list though! Love all of those zombos!
I tried grimgrin and he was kinda slow. Is it only used for being a sac outlet?
Yeah, he takes some prep, but I’m Dimir with all of the sac support and zombie recursion, you can get to lethal levels on grimgrin real quick.
@@TheBrothering I guess. 5 mana just seems too much when it just looks like a carrion feeder who can get rid of 1 blocker when it attacks.
How are you supposed to untap grimgrin tho? Might be a stupid question, but still

Really? No mention of lord of the undead or cemetery reaper? Lord of undead is amazing synergy crypt breaker and Cemetery reaper can use opponents own graveyard to make more zombies. There's also Diregraf colossus every time a Zombie spell activates spawn a 2/2 black zombie.
Those are all excellent zombies, but I see why he didn't mention them. There's just waaaay too many great zombies to fit into 5 minutes lol, even if he's just mentioning them

I mean, he is an OG beast! 🔥 in general though, zombies don’t usually care as much about getting protected. They love going into the graveyard! 🧟♂️ 🪦
