I got around 40 commander decks, and still building. And yes, most of them aren't expensive at all, and most are fun to play and play against. Building, testing and having fun with friends is the most wonderful part of Mtg.
I'd have eight copies of every card in the game, 4 for constructed, 1 for commander, 1 for cube, 1 for collection along with a foil version for the collection.

The way I play this deck is after looking up way to play this commander and seen Post Malone using it with different card to strategize. I've been playing commander since 2014,and have 7 decks to my name. All of them are fun, and can win consistently, but none of them is worth more than $100. This game can be "budget", or "pay to win". That's why I love it!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt also plays (or used to), but he said he never overspent on cards because he didn't want to have an unfair advantage over friends who didn't have as much money to spend. Kind of takes the fun out of it when you spend like the NY Yankees.🤑
Well to be fair he's playing against people with youtube channels dedicated to magic who can afford similar priced decks. I'm sure if he was playing with people on tight budgets he'd have lower powered versions ready.

As Someone that has EDH 9 Decks, spent maybe 1-1,5k € and is playing since 2017 I think that deck count isnt that absurd... I got: -Muldrotha -Ur-Dragon -Shu Yun -Mathas (Curses) (to be replaced with Negan) -Atraxa -Kroxa -Trostani Populate -Kumena -Ich-Tekik and Toggo Partner (My Gem - as it was my own idea -> Lands and Golem Tribal. I play Janky Golems and it still works well in its own powerlevel) -Umbris is in its making
My deck I played with in tournaments was made in the late 90s. I wonder how well it would hold up against these new decks nowadays. My deck probably only cost me $300 to build back then.
My favorite deck of mine is a homebrew that I made. It's a T0 Vintage storm deck. It took me 7 months to perfect. 80% of the time I win on whomever's turn is first.
Go to one of your local game stores, or even Target/Walmart, and buy a pre-made, ready to use deck (aka: precons). The absolute best place to start. Learn the basics, then expand from there. Once you have a firm grip of the game, deckbuilding from scratch becomes a lot less daunting of a task!

Had a buddy that built a Zur deck while I had a max power Kess deck designed specifically to shut down Zur. My Kess has a 100% WR at my tables currently. Nothing would be more glorious than to play my Kess against Post's deck. A dream come true really.

Actually you can get those decks a lot cheaper with proxies. Anyone complaining about how they don't have as much cards as Posty is just doing it wrong. I have most relevant EDH staples and alpha cards and didn't even pay 100 bucks for them. This video refers to the price of original trader items or vintage tournament legal cards, which no non-millionaire should ever buy tbh.
I don't really play EDH because I'm way too competitive. My favorite vintage deck of mine is a 360 card deck that can be/counter every other deck combined. 5 color/colorless, mostly basic lands to protect against Blood moon, infect, storm, tron, life gain, life drain, multiple combos, 4 copies of over a dozen alt win cards, aggro, midrange, control, prison, walks, it's got the power 9, every planeswalker card, ramps, mana dorks, burn, land destruction, Merit Lage(which my deck can easily tank), ect. And all of my decks are homebrews.
The rarity and price of real magic is why i pretty much only play mtg online. So easy and cheap to build decks and the matchmaking is pretty good - easy to jump into a match or two before work.
you can literally build decks that are competitive in edh for under acouple hundred bucks, those multi-thousand dollar decks were just in a few rare cards honestly that arent entirely necessary, but when you have millions, its fun to bling your deck out, its just a fun hobby like anything else

It was a white knight deck combined with a land destruction deck with the dingus egg and zuran orb.

you dont own "alpha cards" if they are proxies

Go buy a commander precon deck from Walmart/target. Then go to a local game store that plays Magic, and find some new buddies to play commander with you!

He has special versions of many of the cards. You can make a super competitive deck for $50 if you want.
