  • Shooting a timelapse at sunrise or sunset is challenging because the light changes and you need to change your exposure settings. This is one of the multiple ways to do it, in my way it is the best way. Shooting on Manual mode and changing your exposure along the way, followed by postprocessing using Lightroom and LRTimelapse 5 we'll end up with the perfect holy grail timelapse.

      I’m really starting to wonder if I did the right thing and starting to look at the 80D but get better lenses for low light e.g. f2.8
      Really should have done my homework before selling as I really liked the 70D. 🙈

    Thanks for this! I have the same camera! I will probably buy this software at some point. I have one question though.
    I want to do high quality cloud/storm timelapses and to get smooth motion you sometimes need to use one second intervals (30x realtime). Also, to capture lighting during the day I like to be able to slow the shutter speed all the way down to 1/2 second (giving a 50% chance of capturing lighting). The problem then is making manual ISO adjustments when the camera is locked about 75% of the time (1/2 second for the exposure, then another approx 1/4 second doing whatever processing the camera does and writing the RAW image to the card).
    Since you also use the EOS D6 Mark II, what settings should be turned off to minimize the time spent processing? Do you know if the processing still occurs even if you are saving RAW only? The manual isn't very clear on what (if any) post-processing applies to RAW images as opposed to jpeg only. I always have long-exposure noise reduction off as that obviously eats up a lot of time, but do I even have to worry if I'm not saving any jpeg image? Any other settings that should be off? I've learned that doing a low-level format to the card and having absolutely nothing else on it sometimes improves the write speed. What kind of card would you recommend? I will definitely need to buy a good one with a lot of space that I can fully dedicate to timelapse.

    Hi Matthew! I need some help from you. I use a PC so I don't have Prores codec. I currently export my master file in AVI uncompressed format but the file size for a 5 second timelapse exceeds 9GB most of the times. Can you suggest a codec that is equivalent to Prores for PC? It would help me a lot if I could export my timelapses in best quality without using up too much space.

    Hey Matthew, does the exposure actually update in realtime on the camera (2:21) as it gets darker or do you have to stop the TL to check? Tried doing a TL last night and the camera EV meter didnt change at all, so only realised when I stopped it. Love the channel and watch your vids all the time!

      Yeah, but what I mean is that cameras nowadays have built in intervalometers with several smart options to shoot timelapses like 'interval priority', so you don't have interfere at all when you shoot a holy grail timelapse. No exposure checking, nothing. You just wait till the camera finishes the work.

    Cheers!

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Elliott! Appreciate the support. I let it run down to -1 EV because a 0EV exposed night time photo is just too bright. The highlights in the buildings etc would be completely blown out as the camera is exposing the scene wrong. Hope that makes sense!

    I had a ton of issues lately with Timelapses. Tnx to Sony removing their App support. I went with a slider. It wasnt cheap, broke on 3rd attempt. Then I bought a intervalometer. 1st one I dropped in the river because the wire was not secure. Now I an using a gimbal. - Finally pretty good. Why do you choose Shade white balance if you shoot Raw?

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow that's some bad luck! Which slider was it? I went with shade just so it wouldn't flicker when scrolling through the pics after. It really doesn't matter unless you plan on using the JPEG sequence (like I did to generate the preview).

Do you mean that say my intervals are 10s, that I have to stop the camera for 50s while I change the exposure, then start back up again? What would be the rationale for doing this? Thanks.

      That whole bit on importing into AE is a mystery to me. Then he makes a comp out of a comp - unclear why - he's talking at 100kph. Is the comp the same size as the image files from his camera, or 4k, or what? I'm lost here.

      The blog has it all written down in case the video is too quick, I tend to speak too fast when the camera is rolling, apologies! www.matjoez.com/2018/07/30/complete-guide-to-shooting-and-editing-holy-grail-timelapses/

    I have a EOS 5 Mark IV. How do I turn on my Live View while taking photos for Timelapse??? If I turn it on beforhand, my timer funktion is grayed (disabled and I cannot use it), if I try to do it after I've started, it doesn't let me turn it on and the display is black!!! I cannot adjust any settings while doing timelapse with different light conditions (f.e. day to night ones) But... it used to work before, I could see everything on the display. There must be one function I need to turn on (or off)!!! Could you help? You seem to know everything about it! THX in advance! Slawek

      Best to use an external remote. My live view doesn't work while timelapsing on the 6d2 either fyi!

      Don't use the in built intervalometer and you should be sweet. Google timelapse remotes and you ll find my post comparing cheap to expensive ones!

    Mat again many thanks from all of us. As I have said before I hope u get a chance to colab with Casey Neistat. Would love to see u work on bigger more creative projects. U def deserve a bigger presence. I will continue to voice my opinions on twitter asking Samsung to make this happen. U both work with Samsung. It would great. Hopefully u can take a trip to NYC. Thnx
    One more thing, U touched on the 6D MarkII critical reviews which I await your review but I did see quite a few of them and while they all said that the new version was a better improvement but for the cost which I believe is double the original which not justified in purchasing it over the original. They all did provide conclusive evidence that the 6D II is marginally better image wise than the original. To me that was the deal breaker. Im only strictly talking about image quality. No video. 6D II def does have much more technology than the original. It also more AF points. So I decided on the 6D original. I as many others expected better image quality for the price Canon is asking for. This is IMHO.

      If just for stills then the 6D is definitely still a great camera!

    I never realized how complicated it was. The results are quite impressive. Consider turning down the volume on the background music. It was hard to hear your voice.

      but you can also edit separately batches of photo which have same light conditions, and when you are happy w the results, import all in adobe premier

      I believe its not nice to answer with a question. I got it for a couple of days when it came out. Wanted to upgrade from 6d. It was nothing special to me whatsoever as I had the 70d also. Then tried sony a7r, did not like it at all. Then i tried a7r2 and immediately bought it for less than a 6d2. thats when the a73 or a7r3 werent out yet. I have canon glass mostly too.

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your statement that it's garbage and has no place on the market is 'not nice' either. I have two, I love it, it's the best camera for what I do.

    • @kaimelis
      @kaimelis 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it isnt nice or "not nice", its true. its a inferior camera and everybody knows that. the one and only thing its not bad at is for vlogging, but thats debatable. for timelapses it has nothing that the others dont, it lacks dr, or megapixels, or in camera apps. i guess its not that "bad" at timelapse stuff as it is in other things such as general photography or video. and all of this would be irrelevant if the price were right, but it isnt, so this garbage camera has no excuses. i asked maybe there something that i didnt see, that you found out, but you didnt even bother to answer.
