Your comment about not always using the main fabric for facings and such helped me decide that smaller cuts were enough and enabled me to get some fabric for a couple things I thought was too expensive. I bought cheaper fabrics with similar characteristics in white, black, and navy to use as bindings, facings, linings, and pockets. You have enabled me in so many ways and I'm so glad I found your channel. I refer back to your tutorials on things frequently. Thank you for doing what you do.
I am starting a new Rhapsody today, using a more flimsy and slippery fabric, and am excited to replace the neck binding with a facing. Thank you for showing how to do this. Bye. Julie A.
Beautiful dress. Love the neckline, love the fit, love the fabric! 💕 Thought I wasn’t too bad at seeing the potential of a pattern, but you are incredible! Never saw this elegant feminine dress in that peasant style blouse.
This is great. Love your changes, even changing pleats to gathers made a more cohesive design. I really appreciate your attention to the smallest details.
It is terrific to find you've done this video. I was looking at my fabric for this blouse and was thinking I needed a facing because the fabric is printed on only one side and I didn't like how the inside was going to show at the neck. I found your video (you're always the place I look first) and am so happy that you've taught how to face this blouse neckline. Thanks you so much!
Karina, Great tutorial on showing how you made the facing and attaching it together. Perfect neckline! I liked seeing how you did, what I call a sideways burrito method, for sewing the yoke inside. I remember doing this on a project 29 yrs ago. I made it up & thought real sewers would not approve of it at that time. I have never done it since then. Your dress looks great on you! Love the fabric Thanks for sharing your expertise!
Yes!!! Sideways burrito is a great descriptive name for it and I’ve also been doing this for years when the construction calls for it. Thanks for watching.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles I am so excited to find it is a real construction method! I am self taught, & have only made approximately a dozen or so purchased patterns. I make simple patterns from my family's clothes & often alter thrifted items. I appreciate your channel so much, so helpful!!
Hello Karina! Your videos and sewing are so well thought out. Your garments are fabulous and neat. And your sewing is exquisite. So much can be learned from you! I like many of your ideas! Good to think through the process, know the fabric characteristics you’ll be working with, and what the expected results will be. I like your style! Limitless!!
Thank you Karina for this informative video. I just bought the Rhapsody pattern and my first make will be for my daughter. She likes a crinkled fabric from my stash so their is no hope for more. You saved the day showing your using another fabric for the second yoke and maybe even front facing. I can do this. 🤗
Thank you for this, Karina. I have struggled to get the V right on the 2 Rhapsody blouses I have made. The current one is a lightweight lawn and I have lined it with white batiste. So far so good..until I got to the V and the rest of the neckline. It may be unsalvageable, but I am going to visit it again in the morning and see if your cool technique here could save this pretty top.
And....it worked! I had the bonus of discovering that I had enough of the fabric left over to be able to make 2 1-yard strips 3" wide; I had a successful unpicking; and now it's a pretty blouse. Thank you!
Thanks for another great tutorial! The dress looks very nice and very flattering on you. You sew so beautifully and always have professional looking results. I missed the kitties this time!
The kitties were at my feet. I had to stand to show the dress because it’s long 😁. They are always there, just not in the camera this time. Thank you so much for the lovely words on the dress.
I usually tend to make a dress from a blouse, or the opposite too 😄. Usually what I’m feeling or it depends on the fabric quantity too. Thanks for watching 😊.
I am trying this technique today! The Rhapsody is one of my favorite patterns, but I am trying this to change up the look of the neckline. Your tutorial was amazing, and as always I took notes in my sewing book so I will remember!
What a great idea with the facing. I may have to give this a try sometime. I have made 5 rhapsody tops and one dress, but they were with challis fabrics. I'll have to ck out your videos on the chiffon! Thanks for sharing this!
A facing can finish a neckline very neatly and I like them for the thicker fabrics. For the lighter weight ones I like bias tape. Thanks for watching 😊.
I have a top cut out and didn't want to use the bias on neck, was thinking of a facing glad you did this i will follow your instructions. Thanks for the great video.
Made my first rhapsody blouse this past weekend using a cotton gauze. The bias binding drove me mad, possibly because I chose to make the narrower bias binding as advised in the pattern. It really isn't my best work which is disappointing (although someone who doesn't sew wouldn't notice). Anyway I am planning on making another with a neck facing and low and behold you have the tutorial! Thank you Karina!
Really lovely dress. I love the way you make it seem so easy to adjust patterns. I would like to see the cuffs tutorial too. Must check it out on Patreon.
Thank you so much 😊. I love adapting patterns to fabrics. It makes the possibilities endless. I have some tutorials on the patreon page that are available to watch on the saffron and tulip tiers :)
I’m in the middle of this technique and am puzzled by the order in which you constructed the yoke facing and the shoulder seams. My top is now finished in the front but I have raw edges on the back neckline! Help!
It’s clearly shown. You sew the inner yoke to the new front facing at the shoulders. This acts like the “facing” for the whole neckline. Then you put that “facing” right sides together with the dress that already has the main yoke sewn on at the shoulders. It’s finished all on the round at the neckline. You don’t finish the front separately from the back at all.
Karina, you do a beautiful job on all your sewing projects. I hope you don’t mind my asking this, but I have noticed in a view different videos I have watched, (other people as well) when the Love Notion dresses and tops are made with sleeves (mine as well) the sleeves have drag lines and have a bit of a twist to them. I have only made 1 Love Notion Pattern so I thought I would ask you your thoughts about this. The only way to notice is if your standing there still looking at it on yourself which you wouldn’t normally do, but is a bit weird.
Thank you so much 😊. About sleeves and twisting, this is not a pattern brand or drafting issue. One piece sleeves hang straight from our shoulders and they’ll always have a degree of twist because our arms are not straight, they are bent. So when the straight sleeve hits the bent arm on movement, it’ll twist to a degree. The only sleeves that won’t twist are two piece sleeves you mainly see in blazers. One piece sleeves with an elbow dart will have a lesser degree of twist. I’ve gone ahead and redrafted the sleeves of blazers into 2 piece sleeves to have them hang correctly, but you’ll rarely see a 2 piece sleeve on a blouse or dress.
Karina, I love your videos. You do an excellent job explaining! You've inspired me to make a Rhapsody dress! Do you think it would work in a flowy, drapey fabric like rayon?
Beautiful dress and fabric. Perfect as you head to winter! I sewed a wearable toile of the Rhapsody today, the sleeveless version. I am short and found the armhole too big. Like you I hate having my bra showing. (I suppose the armscye is larger to accommodate the sleeve versions.) Do you have a video that addresses how to reduce the armscye on a pattern? I tried but am not experienced enough. Thank you. I have learned so much through your videos!
Beverley White I just made my first Rhapsody. I decided on the dress (which is now part of the pattern) because I had the yardage. It was a hot mess. I followed the sizing chart and cut a medium. The back ended up gaping at the neckline so much I needed to remove 2 inches. The armhole (I also did the sleeveless version) was so low I just took the side seam in and tapered it back to the original seam line so the skirt would still fit. I think the bodice might be too long. The front neckline did not go well for me at all. I'm giving up for now. It's a learning experience. I will have to compare all pattern piece measurements with my own and go from there. I'm fairly certain I can make this pattern fit but I lack experience in how to make adjustments. I wonder did you ever figure out to get the fit you wanted on your blouse?
Hello - is there a way to search your videos for particular topics? (This time I am wondering if you have done a twin needle video, but other times I want to check on some other topi to see if you have a video about it.) Thanks.
The cape cod video shows the twin needle hem very complete. I’m organizing a website to have it all listed by topic and it’s a mammoth task. I’ve shown a thousand techniques in the videos 😄
I have just recently found your channel and try not to miss any of your tutorials. I love this dress!! Great conversion too! I know this is a long shot, but I am in love with this fabric ❤️. Any chance you know the maker and name of it? Wonder if I could get it in US? You are such an inspiration to me. Thank you.😀
Thank you so much 😊. Unfortunately this fabric was purchased in Brazil and is no longer available in the website it was purchased at. I have no information about the source of the fabric.

Thank you so much 😊. I’ve made several versions and always like the gathers best. I’m still not done with this pattern.
What a beautiful collaboration!

What a beautiful dress! I love the explanation on the yoke/facing alteration. You are such a good teacher, Karina! Thank you from California, U.S.
I love that I learn new techniques when I watch you. I’ve even started to hand baste. I haven’t hand basted in ever. Keep up the great videos.

This dress looks lovely and the fabric is adorable. I have this pattern I must make it up. The dress really suits you.
You’ll love it and I have become a bit obsessed with this pattern by now!
That is such a lovely dress - the fabric, your revisions, just everything! Thanks so much for the video on adding a facing - very helpful!
Facings have their place for sure. Especially in thicker fabrics. The finish is so neat with them. Thanks for watching 😊.

Karina, you are brilliant. I knew your Patreon following would take off! Just keep being you xx

I can see the 1/2” tape being hard to work with. I made 18mm and it’s so much easier.

I have in the past shown you to three hacks of my favorite patterns. It’s what I love to do.
This is great, but I am not sure how to do the gathers on the back instead of the box pleat. thank you

Rayon is perfect. The only precaution is to stay stitch the neckline as soon as you cut your pieces as rayon tends to stretch out a lot :)
I wish I had seen this before - I am not happy with my Rhapsody top neckline, might have to reverse sew it and put a facing on instead.
Beautiful dress on you.
Thank you so much 😊. If I weren’t on TH-cam and didn’t need to show variety, I’d be happy to make 10 of these with different modifications 😁.
