- Essendon forward Matthew Lloyd went past Simon Madden as the greatest goalkicker in club history against the Western Bulldogs in round 19, 2003. He also managed six goals in the first quarter and 11 total for the game.

People forget how good lloyd was in that early 00s era. He started at the kinda end of the full forward era... him, fev, buddy i guess, even jack snuck in there. But by the time he finished the defending had changed and its extremely rare for 10 goals to be kicked now. More often than not itll only happen in a flogging and by a decent forward. The good ol days of two forwards trading goals is long gone.... i guarantee the kids would still idolise forwards over mudfielders if they kicked big bags like they used to... now they idolise midfield ball getters? Times change
