Grading has become extremely important. This is especially true with US stamps. Collectors in other countries have never been as preoccupied with centering as US collectors. The Never Hinged rage actually started in Germany and then spread to the rest of Europe then to the US. By the early '70s US collectors were buying a lot of Showguard mounts.When I started collecting in 1959,only a small % of collectors, were using mounts. People who regum stamps, have had a field day, taking no gum and hinged stamps and making them in desirable "never hinged" beauties to less than knowledgeable buyers.
