Ohhhh, YAAASSS! Bring on the Quincy! I loooooved him so much. I've got his autobiography on my shelf. His life was amazing, such a gripping read I didn't move off my sofa for about 3 days while I read it!
00:53 [01:40] #7 Just the Two of Us - Bill Withers, William Salter, Ralph MacDonald / Grover Washington 02:50 [04:25] #6 Living for the City - Stevie Wonder 06:05 [08:34] #5 One Hundred Ways - Quincy Jones (P) / James Ingram 09:47 [11:01] #4 Riders on the Storm - The Doors 11:38 [13:17] #3 Just the Way You Are - Billy Joel 13:36 [14:54] #2 You Are the Sunshine of My Life - Stevie Wonder 15:46 [16:30] #1 How Deep is Your Love - Bee Gees
I missed "10cc - I'm Not In Love" and "Manfred Mann - Blinded by the Light" ! Maybe in a next "Best of Rhodes Piano" ! 😉 😇 You are an asset to this planet ! 🙏 🖖LIVE LONG AND PROSPER 🖖
Honorable mention goes to not to my first Chicago song but the first one I associated with the band name, “Feeling Stronger Every Day”. The first time I remember hearing it was around 1991. As I began learning about different instruments often used in rock music, I thought the electric piano played on this song was a Wurlitzer. I only figured out when I was 20 in 2000 that it was a suitcase Rhodes.
Rhodes is the holy grail for me, it was the riders on the storm that got me in my youth. Breakin it down for me, made me feel that much closer to the doors. I played the sax, and I use the Aerophone wind controller to play the raindrop. I work on it for several month, until one day my fingers took over and I wasn't thinking it anymore. It was a great day of victory.
The chord progressions in One Hundred Ways are so beautiful. Same with Just Once. Kudos to Quincy Jones, James Ingram and all the composers. Some of the best music ever.
Loved the selection, however I agree with the other Supertramp fans “ Bloody Well Right “ and would also include Led Zeppelin Misty Mountain Hop. Can’t wait for the Quincy Jones special. So sorry to hear that your friend has passed, I know how special the invite to the Hollywood Bowl Birthday Party meant to you ❤
What gorgeous sounds! I would agree that on Living for the City it was probably layered. Watching a live version on TH-cam the lowest bass note is played on a bass guitar.
Like a lot of others, I suspect, first thing I did was spin round to my keyboard and work out the "Billy Joel mistake" to check I wasn't making it! Love this episode but after how much I loved your "Big Band Bossa" breakdown I am, 'very sadly' looking forward to your Quincy tribute - absolute genius and a big loss. .
At the beginning of the video, I was thinkin' that How Deep is Your Love might be my favorite song of all time (at least a top three)... it's a nice surprise hearing it from Doctor Mix too! 🤝
Hello, thank you so much for this video - your talent is amazing - I read Quincy jone's bibliography - what a life! - In France, we are lucky to have an author who has written about the synthesizer epic, rhode included - incredible entrepreneur and incredible era. It's worth going to wikipedia to see how this keyboard was invented.🍳🛸
While there were stereo recordings of piano performances and recitals, and there were experiments even in the 1960s, rotary speakers drove home the point of a stereo sound system. It enveloped you! Very cozy, like electric organs. And it's even more exaggerated with this plugin (good thing). I know quite a few songs I would put here before The Doors... :P but top video! You nailed this upload, Mr. Doctor. :)
Wonderful! Please tell me that you had to practice some of these before recording to get them note for note! Otherwise I'm feeling very inadequate as I slop some of these sometimes!
You could easily make this a top ten and include "New Frontier" by Donald Fagen, "Still Crazy After All These Years" by Paul Simon and "A Spaceman Came Travelling" by Chris deBurgh. Great video and sounds Dr Mix.
Hi Dr. I had no idea you were Culture Killer at another time. Its great to see you again, and your keyboard colection is most impressive. What model Roland is it you are playing at the beginning? That workstation looks huge.
Nice sounds. The intro of the Riders of the storm is not correct though , as in original song, there is a full bar with only the Ostinato bass notes before the descending cascade of 16th notes which imitate the rain. The key signature is also Also the melodic between that doest start on beat 1 but between beat 3 and 4 and finally the original key signature is different. It is so iconic. Other than that , well done.
Until now, the Rhodes VST of reference was AAS Lounge Lizzard, it's a great plugin but their price is ludicrous, more than twice that of Rhodes ! So the choice is a no brainer.
#1 was orgianlly not written by the Bee Gees. First it was the Chopin prelude, (Eb) then changed by their keys payer in France... then sprinkle on some Barry Gibb lyrics ... and eventually his brothers took all the credit. And you have "How Deeps is Your Copy".
The Rhodes Anthology is nice in a certain range of not too dynamic play, and mostly covered in its effects. Outside of that, the small sample size in connection with some kind of modelling does not deliver the same Rhodes quality as The Famous E, Keyscape and Scarbee deliver. Still I like using it for some special use cases, with the Sparkletop variation better playable and not as problematic as the original or NIs version of it, just offering some pleasant vintage sound. Attack and release also can sound a bit unnatural in this new Rhodes plugin. And the modelled amps are only static snapshots and not well adjustable. Finally its midrange heavy warmth, while sounding pleasant solo, is quite problematic in a mix, and it doesn't sound good any longer for my taste, when you turn down the mellow mids: this plugin is incapable of kicking butt with a more agressive, less lower mids heavy sound, like a real amped Rhodes is very capable of doing. To sum up my experience with it: Lots of limits, and some really nice sweet spots.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, I can listen to Claudio play a Rhodes all day.
Ohhhh, YAAASSS! Bring on the Quincy! I loooooved him so much. I've got his autobiography on my shelf. His life was amazing, such a gripping read I didn't move off my sofa for about 3 days while I read it!
A single thumbs-up button is not enough for this video. Brilliant, Mr. Passavanti. Brilliant video.
I LOVE the sound of a Rhodes, it's so iconic.

oh i got the goosebumps when you nailed Riders on the The Storm, my favourite Rhodes track ever!
The sound of the Rhodes heals the soul!

Thanks Claudio you made my day with the electric piano ❤👍👍😊

Have fun watching!!! Love your attention to details!!!it’s the little things that make the record!!!
Ain't no doubt - the Rhodes always grabs the ear. Fantastic sound and a cool piece of musical furniture.
The great Blue Weaver in How Deep is your Love!
I wish you had more time to teach . You would be a great teacher. You have many gifts.
Well done Marco! Good choice. When I think of Rhodes piano I think of The Doors, "Riders on the storm" (my fave) and Supertramp!
I was also expecting "Sheep" by Pink Floyd... 😉
Loved the selection, however I agree with the other Supertramp fans “ Bloody Well Right “ and would also include Led Zeppelin Misty Mountain Hop. Can’t wait for the Quincy Jones special. Good sounds, great plug-in, thank you!

.
What a GREAT list!!!!!! Thank you - I grew up with these (& my Dad's Fender Rhodes).
I agree w/ this list, but c'mon no Angela (TAXI Theme) probably one of the most well know Rhodes themes. (;
Maybe in part 2 ((:
Luv it 👏 came here because I Heard it Through the Grapevine 😅😅😅 maybe the next playlist. Subed.
I love all these songs. You really nail the sounds. Thanks for this video.
Sounds beautiful. What an instrument!
Holy cow man. That Quincy tune sounds amazing!
can't wait for the QJ content man, cool video, i learned a lot from it, keep it up !!
Good list. Would add Supertramp's Bloody Well Right, with a great intro by Rick Davies.
Your talent is wild. Great work as always
Love it! Thanks!

Grande! Super intros, pure One Hundred Ways! ❤ Congrats Claudio 🖖
Who doesn't love a bit of Rhodes. Thanks Doc.
Excellent choice of songs.
All great! Have you tried No Quarter ? That has to be up there with the best of them!
Going to study and learn these!
how deep is your love hehe that first tune.
Great tutorial!

I love hearing the songs, and your playing Claudio! I can't wait to hear the next Rhodes song. I'm not sure you can top "Never can say goodbye..."
Love the sound of electric piano -I have the Arturia stuff-how about -Mama told me not to come -3 dog night--sounds great
Bee Gees you're favorit of all times ? I love it :) thanks for all the good content ! You're the best !
Wonderful and I love it - another great Intro: Styx: Babe 👍👍👍
_Music hit differently in the 70's_
_Thx for taking me back Dr. Mix_
Dammit I'm a sucker for a Rhodes piano! 😁😍
Great Video 👍
My favourite electric piano of all times
Young & Co - 'I Like What You're Doing to Me' (12 inch version)
Michael Jackson - 'I Can't Help It'
Jamiroquai - 'Blow Your Mind'
+1 for Blow Your Mind. Can't go wrong with Toby.
Check out Azymuth. Villa Mariana - De Tarde has some great rhodes on it.
Wonderful! Please tell me that you had to practice some of these before recording to get them note for note! Otherwise I'm feeling very inadequate as I slop some of these sometimes!
One of my all-time favorite tones..nothing compares to a Rhodes, except for the Whirlitzer...
Thank you!
The ears on this man!
Yes, it's amazing how he can recreate complex chord progressions on the spot !
Oh que belleza escuchar todos estos intros
You could easily make this a top ten and include "New Frontier" by Donald Fagen, "Still Crazy After All These Years" by Paul Simon and "A Spaceman Came Travelling" by Chris deBurgh. Great video and sounds Dr Mix.
the dude such an incredible album forreal!
baby come back - Player
no quarter - Led Zeppelin
+1 for No Quarter 🙂
Such tasty selections!
I have to admit I've never heard that James Ingram song, I'll listen to it right away!
Very nice music class 🌟
Nice ❤ Doktor 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Dr. I had no idea you were Culture Killer at another time. Its great to see you again, and your keyboard colection is most impressive. What model Roland is it you are playing at the beginning? That workstation looks huge.
Rhodes, the perfect sound 🖤
Rhodes my beloved ❤❤❤
Fun video!
Awesome !!
Favoritt Roades song is Pekka Pohjola with sekoilu seestyy🥰 And of course Roades
Living for the city , not ‘leaving’.
Grande Claudio,in the Heart
my fave rhodes intro santana 'dawn/go within' from moonflower
In the mix.....with dr mix!!
We agree on places 1 and 4.
Bee Gees In My Heart ❤
Yes to this.
"Riders on the storm" is in the wrong key??? the songs in Em, your version is in Dm? strange
i also noticed this, maybe because it simplifies that descending line in semiquavers, by using just white keys
Dope !
Thanks for the relaxing time, with these Rhodes sounds... How about Styx - Babe? Classic!! :D
Riders on the storm brings me back into the streets of NFS Underground 2 😎
Nice sounds. Superb
I don't believe you have missed Stely Dan Babylon Sisters song!
thanks Doctor - 🎹❤
awesome video as always but how could you possibly forget Bob James Angela, also known as the theme from taxi!
Until now, the Rhodes VST of reference was AAS Lounge Lizzard, it's a great plugin but their price is ludicrous, more than twice that of Rhodes ! So the choice is a no brainer.
I recommend you the solo intro of Rhodes piano of Juan Pachanga salsa song, played by maestro Papo Lucca. Regards, Claudio!
2:54 it's Living for the City.
He's not leaving any time soon.
Mark 1 rules. I’m biased because I have one lol. Seriously though most of the classics were made on a mark 1 stage or suitcase so I had to get one.
Rhodes piano is a unmistakably recognised baritone sound
You shall put "Babe" from Styx instead of "Riders on the storm"
The Rhodes sound is made with the same stuff the dreams are made...
Very good. Was supertramp - The logical song played on a Rhodes?
Wurlitzer.
"Never Gonna Let You Go" by Sergio Mendes is my fav. Rhodes song:-) Doctor Mix, can you explain key changes in that song? It keeps changing, right?
#1 was orgianlly not written by the Bee Gees.
First it was the Chopin prelude, (Eb) then changed by their keys payer in France... then sprinkle on some Barry Gibb lyrics ... and eventually his brothers took all the credit. And you have "How Deeps is Your Copy".
Dr Mix! I am looking for a vintage Yamaha keyboard

You should use the Rhodes piano to control the Rhodes plugin... just because you can 😊
There is also spectrasonics keyscape as a plugin for rhodes, they featured greg phillinganes and shaun martin (rip) in demo videos on yt
I have used the Keyscape e-pianos up to now, but the Rhodes Anthology is really much better - presumed you don‘t want a Wurly or Pianet sound.
