Tai chi for beginners is the best place to begin when learning a tai chi form or tai chi quan. The Yang Style is suitable for all ages. The great thing about Master Wong’s training method is it can be transferred in to combat too or even self defence. Tai Chi chuan relies on technique, balance and softness.
    Tai Chi Health
This daily practice of Tai chi will enhance your mental capacity to deal with the stresses of every day life. Qigong or chi gong is practiced for this reason.
The movements will strengthen your muscles and joints and improve your balance and co-ordination externally. As you master breathing you will become more aware of your bodies natural systems and begin to balance and control your respiration and circulation internally.
Meditating while balancing your body internally and externally will lead to a balanced mind. Your memory will be better, you will pick things up quicker and the decisions you make in your life will be easier. Researchers have found that Tai Chi practice shows favorable effects on the promotion of balance control, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. Tai Chi has stood the test of time, millions upon millions of people practice Tai Chi to keep themselves young in body and mind and have been doing so for thousands of years.
The slower and longer you practice the more beneficial it is. Play around with the short form like the 8 step to begin with to build strength and understanding, before doing the full 24 yang form.
How do I know I’m doing it right?
Your hands and body should feel warmer if not hotter when you have done the movements for a while. You may feel achy the day after training when you first begin. Later you will feel less achy as you progress.
What is Tai Chi? (Also known as Taiji)
There are 5 styles of Tai Chi forms. Yang, Chen, Sun, Wu, Ng.
Tai chi chuan is a slow motion, moving meditative exercise for relaxation, health and self-defence. Now a days most people practice the Yang style for the health benefits. Originally from China and designed for combat, Tai Chi has gained enormous popularity in America and throughout the rest of the world for its health benefits and competitions. However many few are able to Master the combat side and rear to see Masters who can apply it in real time.
Tai Chi chuan or also known as Taijiquan was originated by a Shaolin monk ‘Chan San Feng’, while studying in the Taoist monasteries on Wudang Mountain. For more info on the history please visit our website: taichicombat.com/
    Yin and Yang
According to Chinese philosophy, yin and yang are the two forces that generate chi. They are seen as opposites: yin is feminine and yang is masculine. But neither can exist without the other. And together they represent the perfect harmony that underpins all creation. The balance between yin and yang is never static.

Take your time, go very slow. It will feel awkward at first & can be frustrating. Don't try to get all of the movements right all at once. Keep going over and over the first movement until it's perfect, then go the second until it's perfect. Repetition and not giving up will pay off in a big way later on. With each movement make sure you are totally relaxed and breathing right; upward movements inhale, downward movement exhale. You will eventually feel very comfortable, it will get easier

Hi Master Wong, I am a woman who is fighting against a cancer, fighting for it doesn't come back. I have found these videos and started to learn and practice every morning, step by step, and I feel fine, your teaching is wonderful, clear, easy to understand. Putting this course on line you gave me the chance to do something I couldn't even hope for: doing the Thai Chi I move in time, I live every second, every moment of a second. My time, its end, is the monster I'm facing and Thai Chi teaches me that I own my time, every second of it and I'm the master of it and of my body. Me, not a cancer or anything else. God bless you.

red64419 On the subjet of cancer, if this can help you, it is said that cancerous cells feed off sugar and that it is better to have a low glycemic index diet (similar to what diabetic people eat), in order to keep it away; which means avoiding sugars like glucose, fructose, honey, maple syrup, and even fruit juice (except whole fruits because the fibers are there to slow down the absorbtion of sugar), but also flours (bread, pastas, most boxed cereals from the grocery store, etc.) and other simple starches from natural sources likes potatoes (and bananas not too often, there are other good sources of potassium). It can be difficult to follow exactly, but to lower the glycemic index of the meals you eat helps a lot and it means basically eating more vegetables (except root vegetables that contain more starch), more legumes and more good proteins, and if you still eat some of the things I mentionned you should eat less, it's better to reduce the portions to add a lot of vegetables to reduce the absortion time of the sugars in the food, which fibers, proteins do (for example a spinach salad, which I eat almost everyday because it is one of the best vegetables for your health; it contains a lot of nutrients, and you can add any raw vegetable you like and seeds in it, even feta cheese which contains less fat than many other cheese). Avoiding trans fat and eating very little saturated fat is also important (so not a lot of fat cheese), replacing it with more good oil like Olive oil, and consuming Omega 3 fatty acid from either fish, seeds (flax, chia) or seaweeds. Doing this, having enough sleep and drinking enough water while still eating 3 to 6 times a day (avoiding some food doesn't mean not eating anymore), will help your overall health while keeping cancer away and you'll have more energy to practice taichi and other exercices. I wish you the best of health and happiness.

BrainiacN5 Thank you! I already Eat To Beat cancer, and I find it easy, because it is the way I do since I was a child. I think that kindness and empaty are very important too to live a better life, both offering them and receiving them. And that is why I thank you very much. Wish you all the best.

Thank you Master Wong. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your instructional videos. I am a student of TKD but want to learn the mental part of martial arts. Tai Chi is one of those martial arts taught mental stability before physical techniques. Which is why I am here today to fully understand the way of the movements and how to execute them as demonstrated. A little hard to follow up on movements on the angle of the camera, but I will improvise the best I can. Keep up the excellent work. And thank you again for all your effort.

Depending on what kind of shape your in, karate has some great initial benefits. I started shorin ryu shorinkan karate about 6mo ago (mostly cause i have a dojo close to my home). But the last 6 months I lost a solid 30lbs and now it has led me to Tajiquan. I am studying to practice both now, I take the lessons of Tajiquan and apply them to my karate. Anyway, I am 43 years old, and the improvements it made to my body have been substantial. Don't get my wrong, I have worked very hard, put in alot of effort, as much effort as a middle aged overweight man with rods & screws in his lower back a broken ligament in his right knee can put in! But the results have been nothing short of amazing, i am in the best shape of my life, I am 195lbs and 6ft tall, I was 6'1" before my back surgery in 2005. I guess what I am saying is, whether it is karate or tajiquan, if you put the effort in, you WILL be amazed, and there is SO much more than just having abs now, it can change your mind/body/spirit and give new meaning to life. Thank you, went a little longer than planned, but I LOVE martial arts especially Tajiquan! And I found karate, mine anyway, is just Tajiquan cut up and militarized.

Hi Taiji Yang - thank you for sharing these videos. I am wondering if we Mirror your movements or do we move the left foot when you move your left foot, right hand when you move your right and so on.

This yang style is the style I'm most familiar with and the one I'm most comfortable with. Much more than the chen or wu styles.

Great video! I think it would help a lot if you had another camera from above, all the time, this way it would be easier to understand to which side you're turning every time.

listen!!! to all the Master Wong fans who want to learn this, as a martial artist over 30 years myself, take one step at a time, practice it!! over and over for a few days and then go to the next step, that way you have in memory the steps down perfect before you advance, this is the only way....step by step...and you will get it...

I have only learned from knowledge shared, this Master Wong I believe is correct and balanced to practice.
I shall pay you when I am ready! Maybe I can get one of your shirts? Would be good to get the Tai Chi uniform from you if you are going to stock that in the future at reasonable prices

Master Wong, please tell me, when do you breathe into your dantien,
is it when you raise your hands at the start? and when you lower your arms/hands you breathe out?
