Dallas Union Station's ballroom upstairs is a BEAUTY.... However it books for special events, weddings, banquets, etc. Back during the hey days of railroads more than a half century ago the ballroom was used as the sitting room and passengers got to their trains by a foot bridge over the tracks with steps to the platforms. That foot bridge was demolished long before DART reconfigured the platforms to its present state. Amtrak uses the downstairs former luggage and package floor as the sitting area today, why it isn't as beautiful as larger Amtrak stations. Even so, it serves Amtrak very well as a sitting room today.
Train rides are the best . We have taken the train a lot. Only way to travel . More people need to take the train and discover the piece of mind and joy while traveling the train. Life's a journey keep traveling.
Hopefully 🤞 more people will see how great train travel is for the soul and the environment. Within the next 15-50 years I think we will see surge in train investment and travel in the US finally.
Although Amtrak is ok. I still compare Amtrak to the days when the passenger trains were run by the private railroads. To be honest, the private railroads had more comfortable trains, more colorful looking trains, faster schedules and many many more routes and multiple trains in each direction. And one had a choice of which railroad company one wanted to take as there were multiple routes and multiple railroad companies competing for business between any two major cities. And there used to be many more dedicated passenger train tracks that have since been ripped up thus causing Amtrak to have to share track with the freight trains.
I'm contemplating doing the train going home to FTW from visiting San Diego, the first place you went in the video, was that a roomette? Then the regular, plane looking seats that reclined, is that the business seats? Thanks for the video!

Wow! 19 hours of train travel every 3 months. I feel that since my girlfriend lives in Europe. The distance sucks but is well worth it. Trains are not the new wave. Before Amtrak, the passenger trains were run by the private railroads. In the 1960's nearly very town in the US. was served by a train. The trains back then were faster, more comfortable, more routes to choose from. When Amtrak took over the passenger trains in 1971 they eliminated 60 percent of the routes and downgraded service in every possible way. The passenger train traffic was reduced to trickle by 1971 as most people switched to flying and driving during the 1960's causing the passenger train to meet its near death. There will never be a new wave of train travel in the U.S. as Amtrak and the government butchered the system and it is impossible to bring it back.
I would have to say the Steak for sure! I would say I got maybe 5-6 hours. And thats because we added a couple of train cars in San Antonio at night, so that woke me up.
