    Trying to walk again after an ankle fracture is awful. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Learning how to walk again isn’t easy.

    Amazing how majority of the comments have a story on an ankle injury, helps to know you are not alone and will never be alone. I’m here to join and say I have too. May 19th, I suffered a Trimalleolar Fracture. Did the surgery, cast removal , stitch removal, and currently doing the 6 weeks of non-weight bearing and next appointment on the road to rehabilitate to walk . Extremely nervous 😮‍💨😮‍💨

      Honestly it's been a blessing. The ability to connect with others who are going through the same stuff is one good thing about the internet! How has your pain levels been?? are you still on blood thinners?

    • @chelseaparker7562
      @chelseaparker7562 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheHealthyYinzer Absolutely!
      As for pain levels , my most painful moments were day 2 and 3 after surgery , all I did was cry , because the primary medication (oxycodone) felt like it wasn’t working. I think by the second to third week from surgery , I was feeling alright and stopped the meds
      I also stop taking the blood thinners like up until the day they took my cast off to remove the stitches. Before I was taking it whenever I felt and notice my foot/toes were swelling up. if I seen/felt my toes were super tight and I couldn’t move them , I took the blood thinners and they brought that swelling down good , I was moving my toes like nothing was wrong.
      But as of now, I take nothing. I also had moments couple days after the surgery where my foot would just randomly jump, like a muscle spasm , but I didn’t get the meds for it until the day of my stitch removal and don’t even need it because the spasm’s stopped right after the cast came off.

The biggest thing for me in the beginning was to attach my recovery to my “why”. Reshaping your mindset is as important as the pt. I.e. Why do I want to get better? Oh, I see you're still in the early stages of recovery. This can be mentally draining. The video you watched was from two years ago, and I do my best to assist others through comments. I personally went through an eight-week program and found it very helpful. As an exercise physiologist, I knew what I needed to do, but it was beneficial to have someone else create the program for me. It's important to focus on extending your big toe when starting physical therapy. You may not think about it, but it's a crucial step in regaining normal walking ability.

    Trimalleolar fracture and dislocation, 2 wks post op today. Stitches removed and boot on. I agree about not wishing on my worst enemy. The pain was excruciating. I sprained my other ankle trying to use crutches. I have balance issues. So have been in bed or in a wheelchair. 4 more weeks of no weight bearing then I can start putting weight on. Thanks for the video. Good to see others who are or have gone through this. You are doing fantastic. Hang in there. Hardest part besides the pain, is not having friends and family that are helping. • @TheHealthyYinzer
      @TheHealthyYinzer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like what I am going through. First, you need to attach your recovery to your why. For me it was getting back to my business and being able to help my clients. Once I had the why in my mind I would look at everyday as a chance to get better in something. If this is mobility, strength, flexibility. You will lose muscle mass and that will cause some pain and depression. But just keep your why front of mind. Once you are able to do the mobility exercises START ASAP! Everyday is a chance to get better and come back to the things you love. I’m always here if you need anything

Just make sure you streghten the muscles in the injured leg. thats really the best thing you can do. I have a few videos on the exercises that helped me get through it

      @TheHealthyYinzer Thank you for asking. It has been a long ride for me. The doctor told me it was going to be a long and hard recovery.And I didn't really realize how long and how hard it was going to be. I'm 75 years old, and I've been dealing with this foot for several years. So my balance wasn't good. And finally, it got to the point that I couldn't do any fun stuff anymore. I got an infection in my incision about almost to my 8th week. So that set me back.The doctor felt like it was because the boot that he had put me in was rubbing on the incision so I had to get out of that. Go on an antibiotic and use another kind of a shoe which reminded me of a platypus. I am now able to be off a knee scooter, walker, and just using a cane or my walking sticks. When I go to a big store, I sometimes do use their scooters that they have. I am now able to drive, which makes me so happy. I have occupational therapy come to the house, and I have PT also coming. July 21st will be 4 weeks.

      The main thing is consistency. Calf raises, tib raises, split squats, walking 5k steps. But also having a recovery program set up for yourself.
